Overview

Property

Updated: 23-Nov-2016
Farmhouse in Verteillac, Aquitaine / Dordogne, France - Grand Champ Is Peaceful And Is Approached By A Long Track Bordered By Woods And Fields.

Grand Champ is approached by a long track bordered by woodland and fields and the property is very private with lovely open views. Although there is a sense of quiet and solitude the lively village of Verteillac is only a 2 minute drive away or a 15 minute amble. The property epitomises the charm of the region being constructed from local stone and incorporating beautiful oak beams. The renovation of the barn has been carried out to a high standard, mixing traditional building materials and contemporary design. The open living space on the ground floor looks out on to a court yard on one side and views of the fields on the other. The kitchen is small but well kitted out. The large main double bedroom has a four poster bed and the smaller bedroom has twin beds. There is a private covered eating and barbecue area with tables and chairs and sunbeds and views over the fields. The 12 X 6m pool is surrounded by fields and comprises a large patio and covered seating area.

Beautiful, peaceful, comfortable, welcoming.

  • 5 of 5

The gite is beautifully renovated and has everything you could need. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are spacious and light. Good powerful shower. The wifi connection, TV access, and cupboard full of DVDs and games is brilliant. Great toy cupboard upstairs with plenty of good books if you haven't brought enough. The swimming pool is perfect and right next to its own "field of dreams". Lovely views from the back too. Grainne was a lovely host. Thanks for a lovely holiday - just what we needed. Give the dogs a stroke for us.

Beautiful secluded traditional French Barn with everything you need for a perfect restful holiday!

  • 5 of 5

Grand Champ is the most beautiful spot to share a relaxing and stylish holiday.

The Barn itself was cool, light and airy and was very tastefully furnished with very comfortable sofas and beds and was equipped with everything you could possibly need. The private garden has views onto open farmland, so we were lucky to experience French wildlife such as deer, owls and swallows drinking from the pool. The large shaded dining area situated next to a babbling pond had a lovely hammock for those quiet moments and a table tennis table in the sun for the more energetic ones!

The very generous pool was well maintained with a beautiful shaded seating area for when you want to escape the summer sun but still be near everyone else! We had it all to ourselves which was a real luxury!! The pictures are a true reflection of how lovely it was.

The friendly owners, Grainne and Richard were always on hand to answer queries or to make recommendations but were never intrusive.

Verteillac is a beautiful location to explore the area, with many picturesque towns to visit and plenty of things to do such as canoeing. We will definitely be back!

Thank you Grainne and Richard for such a wonderful holiday!!

Amazing view, lovely "barn"

  • 5 of 5

It's not really a barn -- it was . This is an wonderful spacious renovation with a fabulous view of the rural world. Grainne and Richard et al were helpful but not intrusive. (Their house is next door.) It is the essence of lovely shabby-chic, not fancy but not down-at- the- heels either. We didn't use the pool because the weather was so bad, but we slept like angels because it is so peaceful here. We travel a lot. This is the quietest place we've ever been. And we loved the wood stove.

One caveat: The place is best for a couple or a family since you have to go through the small bedroom to reach the bathroom (kids probably don't mind but adults do!). And though we loved the spacious loft/bedroom ,there are stairs to it, so if you are afraid to climb too much this is not for you.

Overall we loved this place! It is true Dordogne country, climbing roses et al.

Lovely family holiday in Southern France

  • 4 of 5

Had a wonderful, hot, sunny and very relaxing 2 weeks in Verteillac. The children loved the pool and the relative seclusion of the farmhouse meant that we, the adults, could relax ? when the farmer came to collect the wheat in his large combine harvester the children almost combusted. Grainne and Richard were wonderful hosts. Always on hand to help with a question but were incredibly discreet.

The nearby village of Verteillac was only 5 minutes away by car and had the usual boulangerie and boucherie to help with supplies. We had 2 wonderful nights in the village eating duck, steak and frites with Bordeaux red along with the rest of the village sitting on large trestle tables in the village square under a starlit night.

The house itself was perfect for our family of 2 adults and 2 young children (3 and 6). The bathroom was good (no bath but modern, powerful shower), a well stocked (if small) kitchen, two very nice bedrooms (with good beds) and the house had the most incredible TV that meant that on those evenings we did not go out both the adults and the children could watch TV, selecting films from a very wide selection of DVDs or, via satellite, watch UK TV.

I would highly recommend a stay here.

Grand Champ

  • 5 of 5

This is a great location for visiting and exploring the Dordogne Region. Great barn conversion with everything that you need. Hosts were very attentive but not overpowering which is important for relaxing. Lots of villages close by with a huge range of restaurants for eating out so don't be tempted to stock up at Tesco on the way! Try out the local stuff. Lovely bakery in Vertillac but be there early for your croissants as the go quickly. We travelled around the whole area including Lacanau Ocean and Royan, Cognac and Bordeaux. This IS France - enjoy it!
