Property

Updated: 06-Dec-2016
Cottage in Ufford near Woodbridge, Suffolk, England - Quiet Location, Close To Many Local Attractions

The cottage, close to the church and water meadows, is situated on the owner's property and has good facilities and parking. It is on one level and suitable for people with walking difficulties. It has one bedroom, a shower room and an open plan living, kitchen and dining area, as well as a private outdoor patio with table and chairs and a barbecue. Ufford has two very good pubs in the village, The Ufford White Lion and The Ufford Crown, both only a few minutes' walk away from the cottage. There are also some lovely countryside walks to be found on the doorstep. Only 3 miles from the market town of Woodbridge which has a large choice of pubs, restaurants and coffee shops, as well as riverside walks. The archaeological site of Sutton Hoo is also on the doorstep. About 30 minutes' drive to the beaches, shops and restaurants in Southwold and Aldeburgh. Close to golf courses, fishing lakes and popular bird watching spots, Ufford is perfectly situated to be able to explore Suffolk.

About the Owner

My name is Ann Spear and I live next door to Potts Cottage. My daughter, Christina, her husband, James and their three children, Sam, Jack and Madeleine also live on the site in the main house. We also have 2 Labrador x called Lottie and Milo.

In 2011 we renovated the barns alongside the main house to provide me with a granny annex and at the same time updated the living area of Potts Cottage and built a new bedroom and shower room.

cosy cottage in rural village

  • 4 of 5

This is a cosy cottage in rural village setting. You can take walks from the cottage into lovely countryside, or take your car and visit some lovely coastal areas. The cottage has all you need and Ann is close to hand if you have any queries.

Peaceful and relaxing

  • 4 of 5

Lovely little cottage, an annexe to the main thatched house. Tucked at the end of Church Lane and bordering some lovely walks over meadows. Anne was welcoming and the cottage had all we needed for our 3 night stay. We booked this cottage as it was dog friendly and she certainly enjoyed her walks and holiday too! The village is pretty and very quiet, we ate twice at the Crown (10 min walk) and it was SUPERB, the White Lion was closer but wasn't serving food when we went. Ufford is well placed for getting to the beaches etc. Would highly recommend Potts Cottage, excellent value.

Fantastic Holiday

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time staying in this lovely and very homely cottage. It is located in a stunning part of Suffolk, with access to everything you could wish for: walking; kids days out; beaches; history and restaurants.

The cottage had all you would want and the owner was very friendly. The provisions in the fridge and a bottle of wine were very welcome treats.

Fantastic cottage and village

  • 5 of 5

Nice, clean cottage in idyllic Suffolk village. Has what it takes for cosy holidays. Nearby towns (Woodbridge, Ipswich) are fun and easy to get to. Friendly host and cute dog.

Local wine and essential foods for breakfast in fridge upon arrival ... made us feel very welcome.

Only downside: if weather is good (as it was during our stay), one feels tempted to eat all meals on the terrace, and for this purpose the terrace chairs are uncomfortable :-).

Perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

This is a well appointed cottage set in a beautiful village next to the church and a stroll away from the pub! It is very quiet but close to a main road so within easy reach of the many lovely places to visit in this part of Suffolk. We will definitely be visiting again.

Beautifully presented, spotlessly clean, welcoming, well appointed, beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

This is by far the most dog friendly place we have ever stayed. The owners very generously allowed us to bring our 3 dogs with us and because of the secure and private fenced patio area through the double doors in the bedroom, it was a perfect location for us. We could relax knowing our dogs were safe and happy and had access to the fresh air. There were no over-bearing statements about what you must and must not do in terms of your dogs, although we are always very conscientious (and take piles of fleece blankets with us to cover up the furniture before we let the dogs in!). The owner welcomed us on arrival and invited us to let our dogs make use of her own garden, if we wished, which we thought was very kind.

Although the cottage is small, it is spacious and practical and nicely decorated. It is airy and bright with a great little kitchen diner and comfortable lounge. Lovely bedding and comfortable mattress, attractive furnishings and everything thoughtfully coordinated. The shower room was perfect - we'd quite like to have taken the shower home with us! There is a spacious walk in wardrobe and plenty of room for 3 dog beds!!

The cottage was spotlessly clean on arrival and was fresh and well aired. The owner left a generous welcome gift of eggs, sausages, butter, bread rolls, a bottle of wine and milk. There were ample towels, tea towels and detergents provided too.

The location of Pott's Cottage is idyllic. Completely tucked away in the most charming Suffolk village, only a stone's throw from the church. It was just wonderful to lay in bed at night with the French doors open listening to the owls and the church bells chiming. Although situated close to the owner's (very attractive) house and (even more attractive) garden, we never felt crowded and were left completely to ourselves. Parking is very convenient and just outside the front door. Lower Ufford has some wonderful walks and is well situated for exploring Woodbridge, Aldeburgh, Orford, Thorpeness, Snape and a host of other gems in the area. Wickham Market is just 5 minutes' drive away and has a supermarket and some nice local shops.

In summary, Pott's Cottage provided us and our beloved dogs with a wonderful tonic and we cannot recommend it highly enough. We would love to return in the future and have already told our friends and family about it.

Location

From the Owner

I bought the house in 1983 as I fell in love with the village of Lower Ufford and it was closer to my children's school and friends than I had previously lived. The house itself is set within a large garden which is where I spend the majority of my time and it is right at the heart of the village but on a no-through road so it is very quiet. The village has a rural and friendly feel to it but at the same time it is close to local towns and amenities.

Facilities

From the Owner

The cottage is well placed for some lovely walks by the sea or rivers or in the local forests and also within reach of many of East Anglia's attractions. The property is close to main roads which makes it easy to access airports and train stations to be able to travel in this country and abroad - a pastime I enjoy immensely. We have two excellent pubs in the village both providing good local food and there are several restaurants in the local towns and surrounding villages which will provide takeaways. I always provide some locally sourced produce for your arrival and there are excellent butchers and farm shops close by to restock. I am always happy to help you with directions, suggestions for places to visit or shop and to make sure that your stay is relaxed and pleasurable.
