Cottage in Alhama De Granada, Andalucia, Spain - Quiet Street With Parking And Just 5 Mins Walk To Bars Shops, Restaurants And Main Square

Characterful cottage with beamed ceiling and orignal tiled floors. There is a large welly equipped bright dining kitchen . The lounge is cosy with a wood burning stove and comfy sofas .There is a flat screen TV ,English TV (accessed through the internet) and DVD player and patio doors leading to the garden. The garden has many plants and there is tiled patio with a mosaic dining table and chairs and sun chairs and a bbq. The bedrooms are tasefully decorated with shuttered windows and original tiled floors.The large master bedroom has beautiful Moroccan style four poster bed.

I live here in Spain and love the area and the fact that it is still traditionally Spanish. What attracted us to this part of Spain was the amazing scenery and of course the tapas!

Why louise Parr chose Alhama de Granada

The house is in really quiet street and so close to the shops and bars. The property was once a small fruit shop many years ago and is full of character and charm.

The main reason why we bought this house was because we really loved the fact that it had a garden.

What makes this cottage unique

Being able to wander into town and sit on the square in the sun in the afternoon for a few drinks and tapas. There are also many fiestas in the town were everyone dresses up and enjoys the festivities.

Notes on accommodation: Parking is on the street very close by approx 30m. Outside: There is a patio are with a lovely mosaic dining table,chairs and a large umberella perfect for dining outdoors anytime of day or evening. There is a lovely fig tree overhanging the old stone wall and plants in the garden. There is a sunbathing area with a sunchairs and a bbq perfect for relaxing. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen and towels are included

First timers in Spain, with intentions of seeing Alhambra Palace and Spain's interior.

Hidden up a narrow street in the Arab Quarter within easy walking distance of the centre of the village/small town with everything you need whether eating in or out. Good and effective communication with Louise resulted in a easy rendezvous with her in the Market Place and a quick passage to a car parking space less than 100m from the front door. Louise showed us into the property, provided us with essential guidance to operations within the property and left us with a fridge of supplies that served us well for the breakfast the next day, this was excellent as arrival on Sunday evening with no shops open meant we did not have to race out in the morning to do shopping. The wine & beer was very well received. The property itself is full of character and was well equipped for self catering. It had a wood burner and a plentiful supply of wood meant that we enjoyed warm & cozy evenings in with a glass or two of wine.

The bedrooms are of a good size and there is adequate storage space for clothes. The bathroom is on the ground floor and is also of good size and has a fantastic shower with lashings of hot water.

There is a comprehensive visitors guide book with all information to hand for walks, shops etc, etc.

The patio area was used on a number of occasions but being late Oct/early Nov, we did not receive direct sun but it was nice to in the open without being overlooked.

The area on the whole is very quiet and there was no noise disturbance that caused an issue. The main church clock started chiming at 7 a.m. and stopped at midnight, it was nice to hear.

Overall , my wife & I and our friends were very pleased with the accommodation and the village. We enjoyed seeing the Alhambra Palace and marveled at the countryside that we toured around during our week. A car hire is a must.

Thank you very much Louise for your help and the chance to stay in your little hide-away in Spain.

The only issue we had was the inability to make the final payment to Louise via Owners Direct, apparently they had a problem and not for the first time. Again and luckily the communication with Louise that I had before we arrived meant that we able to pay her on arrival. Thank you Louise for your trust in us.

Lovely Spanish house full of character. Very quiet yet near to bars etc and cool out of the heat.

It's a lovely house. It's typically Spanish and very charming.

Everything works really and it has everything you might need.

The courtyard is very pretty too.

Near to shops, bars etc and yet very quiet too - no noises in the night - very peaceful.

The village is also lovely. Louise left a file which had some absolutely fab walks from the village - I can highly recommend reading the red file.

The gorge is not to be missed and neither are the local bars.

The food in the bars was some of the best we have had anywhere. A real bonus is the free tapas they give with drinks!

Our favourite was El Tigre, but to be fair they were all fab on the square.

Great house, great village, great holiday. We would like to return.

A welcome retreat from the heat of the day

The location was great, close to the heart of the old town but in a quiet side road. After visiting 2 cities we found Alhama de Grenada was essentially Spanish and thoroughly enjoyed its rugged beauty and friendly people. There were many good bars and restaurants to choose from, and there will be some open every day of the week. If you want to eat at home, there are plenty of food shops and a market, I think it was on Friday. The kitchen has a good selection of cooking implements plus a barbeque on the patio. Unusually for us when we are abroad, we were not troubled by biting insects! Despite temperatures in the mid 30's the house remained cool. This homely cottage was good value for money.

Gorgeous house

Gorgeous house and courtyard. Lovely location with some spectacular views from the village. Particularly enjoyed the walks along the river and through the gorge. Went to visit Granada for the day using the local bus service - much easier than trying to drive and park and well worth a visit. Also enjoyed outings to the coast and Lake Bermejales.

Cute property in a lovely town

Visited at the end of march, hit a bit of a cold spell at the start of the week but property owner (Louise) was really helpful in providing heaters and wood for the lovely wood burner fire. House is cosy with lovely features like wood beams, pretty tiles and white walls. Situated a few minutes walk into the town which has plenty of bars and restaurants which provide local Spanish food including tapas with your drinks!!

The area is perfect for travelling, we hired a car and went off to Granada (1hr drive) and a beautiful town called frigiliana (1hr 15) very pretty with white washed he's walls and brightly coloured doors and pots. A must visit.

Locally you can walk the gorge and visit a local hamman or walk the gorge in the opposite direction and you get to a hot natural spring pool. Again a must visit... would definatley recommend if you want a traditional Spanish break.

Peaceful quaint cottage in a traditional Spanish village

We really enjoyed our stay in this homely cottage. It is packed with original features and character. The welcome pack was very enjoyable. The bed was comfortable. The patio garden was a peaceful retreat with plenty of sunshine yet also areas where we had the chance to get some shade.

The village is a very friendly place with some interesting historical features.The gorge is awesome The tapas bars were great. We particularly enjoyed Bar Andaluz. We will definitely recommend this place as an alternative to a seaside break.

Special interest holidays:

The countryside is truely stunning so perfect for birdwatching, walking and cycling . The waters of lake Bermajales are just 15mins drive with water sports and of course swimming.

There are two outdoor swimming pools within the town and within walking distance and another with lovely gardens and a restaurant just outside the town.The beautiful Arabic baths of El Ventoro are also just outside the town and within walking distance.The Roman bathes and natural hot springs are a 5 min walk.

The fantasic gorge is just 5 mins from the house ideal for a stroll and a picnic with amazing views.


The nearest beach is at the resort of Torre Del Mar which is less than an hours drive.There are many beaches lovely along the coast.


Granada airport is one hours drive and Malaga is an hour and an half . Directions will be given .

A bus is available, or there are transfer companies.


The town of Loja is 35mins drive.

Granada is one hours drive.

Lake Bermajales is 15 mins drive with swimming and water sports.

There are many surrounding villages within 10-15 mins drive.

Further Details:

The market is 2 mins walk and on every Friday with a big selction of fresh fruit and veg and loads of shoes !!

There are many banks with cash machines, supermarkets and shops. In all there are over 30 bars in the town.
