Rencott is a carefully presented character cottage situated on the edge of the delightful village of Porlock. Set within a wooded combe, and within an easy and safe walk to the village, it makes an ideal base for a holiday in Exmoor National Park. There are coastal, moorland and wooded riverside paths all accessible directly from the front door.Pubs, restaurants and shops are all within a safe and easy walking distance. The cottage has a pretty garden from which to enjoy the views, off-road parking and a garage. It has a cosy beamed sitting room with wood burner, a large kitchen with room to dine in comfort including bespoke handmade units. There are 3 bedrooms ( 2 x doubles plus 1 x single ) a slate floored bathroom which contains a separate walk-in shower.

Comfort and tranquillity in a perfect setting

We enjoyed our stay at Rencott so much a few years ago , that we knew it would be a perfect place to bring our parents to this summer. It’s a stylish and very well equipped cottage in a wonderfully tranquil setting.

We love the location - ideal for some lovely walks straight from the cottage or for a wander in to the village for a cream tea. We also love the comfort and decor of the cottage – just gorgeous- and wonderful to come back to after a long day.

In our opinion it’s a perfect holiday cottage and we'd love to stay again!

Great cottage-Third Visit

Three years ago we found Rencott by chance. We have returned each autumn to what can only be described as a superb cottage. Cliff (the owner) could not be more helpful and has always been flexible with regard to arrival and departure days.

Well equipped,comfortable and brilliantly located it has proved to be a fantastic base for mountain biking holidays.With expensive bikes a secure garage is a real bonus and the provision of a bike stand and hosepipe is the sort of attention to detail which is evident throughout the cottage. The fresh herbs in the garden were also much appreciated!

The spacious kitchen and the woodburning stove in the lounge make this an ideal place to relax after a long and active day or, if you still have the energy the short walk to the village pubs is worth the effort!

Over the last thirty years I have stayed in cottages from Cornwall to the

Scottish Highlands but I have rarely found anything better than Rencott.

In short,if you're looking for a great cottage in a quiet and beautiful location look no further, Rencott fits the bill!

Rencott cottage in Porlock

What a fantastic cottage in a fantastic area. There was 4 of us plus jess the dog staying in rencott a very clean and cosy cottage equipped with everything, with walks out of the door, a ten minute walk to shops and pubs and a drive to some very nice places in any direction. We did not want to go home!

We have just spent the most wonderful week at this perfect cottage! Porlock has been our favourite holiday location for many years, a perfect place for our young children to enjoy splashing in the river, pony rides, woodland walks, days on the beach and fun at the sea side, whilst never being far from a tea garden to enjoy a cream tea! It was once described to me as an 'Enid Blyton style' holiday and I think that sums it up perfectly.

My love for the area aside Rencott is wonderful. Without question the most gorgeous cottage we have stayed at, absolutely beautifully presented. It somehow manages to be spacious but cosy, modern yet traditional. It's position suited us well, a 15 minute stroll to the shops in the lovely village of Porlock (and more importantly for our little crew only 10 minutes walk to a lovely park). Simply perfect. We will be back!

We had a fantastic week at Rencott and were really sad to go! Our 1 year old daughter, didn't want to leave the 'oliday 'ouse as she called it! It was our second time in the area - but the first time with our daughter in tow and it was perfect location with lots to do. It was an easy walk into porlock with all it's tea rooms and pubs and a short drive to minehead. The house was very well equip, cosy and clean. It comfortably fitted our two families and the garden was bigger than we expected. A lovely house and a lovely part of the country.

The owner Cliff made it very straight forward to book and we started our holiday with no fuss directions and instructions!

The cottage is a peaceful, relaxing house which giving access to wonderful walks from the doorstep, spectacular countryside, coastal paths, moorland expanses and pretty villages. It is perfectly located for easy walking access to the village.

Nearest Barpub : at 1 Miles Nearest Golf : at 5 Miles Nearest Train : Minehead Steam Railway / Taunton mainline at 5 Miles Nearest Motorway : M5 at 35 Miles Nearest Restaurant : Various restaurants and Pubs at 0.5 Miles Nearest Ski : at 451 Miles Nearest Beach : Porlock Bay at 1.5 Miles Car: not necessary

The nearest beach , the spectacular Porlock Bay is approximately 25mins walk away. It is a site of special scientific interest and can be walked to via a pleasant footpath directly from the village. The bay forms part of the South West Coastal Path.The village sits on the newly extended Coleridge Way long distance footpath.

The large sandy bay at Minehead is approx 5 miles.


Car not essential as all amenities are within walking distance. There is an excellent local coastal bus service including open top buses during the summer months.


It is a 10 minute walk to the pubs, restaurants, post office, local museum and individual shops in Porlock.

Seaside towns of Minehead (5 miles) and Lynton & Lynmouth (12 miles).

Easy walking access to Exmoor paths and woodland. Easy walking access to Coleridge Way Long Distance Path, and South West Coastal Path.

Porlock Weir, is a nearby picturesque harbour with shingle beach, pubs and restaurants and can be walked to via a variety of footpath routes.

The National trust villages of Selworthy, Bossington, Allerford and Horner with beautiful thatched cottages and tea rooms are all also within an hour's walk or a 10 minute drive

The medieval village of Dunster with it's National Trust castle, craft shops and restaurants is approx 15 minutes drive

Dunkery Beacon (highest point on Exmoor).

Exmoor Owl and Hawk Centre nearby at Allerford

Horse and Pony trekking on Exmoor available nearby.

Exmoor Safari's and guides can be organised in the Porlock Visitor Centre.

There is a small Local history museum in Porlock.
