Excellent Location

We had a most enjoyable holiday based in Paola's apartment. The owners were very accommodating with dates to allow us to drive from England and have very secure underground car parking. You also benefit from being 50 yards from Menton Garavan station providing connection to Roquebrune Monte Carlo Nice and Cannes. The apartment is very secure, a good size, comfortably furnished and has a nice terrace for dining or relaxing. It benefits from a quiet off-road position. I would have no hesitation in recommending this holiday home, it is a short walk to the supermarket and beach but about a mile from the main town. This is a very pleasant walk and there is a bus service if you are not too agile. My sole gripe would be that two tea bags an inch of milk and one toilet roll is a rather mean welcome pack!

Home from Home

We have been fortunate enough to stay in this homely, well appointed and positioned apartment six times since 2008. All our stays have been during the off peak season.

Always assured of a warm welcome by the owner and her family, everything is as described but a visit is essential to sense the calm, beauty and agreeable climate of this Cote D'Azur resort.

Lovers of everything French, art, architecture, formal gardens, markets and much else will not be disappointed.

Seeing the local sights on foot can be relaxing or strenuous (your choice) but always pleasant especially when taken with rest stops french style.

Public transport is convenient, plentiful and inexpensive so we leave our vehicle in the secure underground car park and forget it for two weeks.

A nice place to stay

The apartment is very clean and ideally situated. Take a leisurely stroll

to the menton restaurants on the beach or in the town - excellent food and great service. It's great having a private parking space and the apartment is nice and quiet when you want a nice glass of wine to relax at the end of a busy day - doing nothing! Thank you for a great stay.

The property was exceptionally clean and well maintained,with a very high level of security. We arrived by train from Nice and were met at the station (which is about 50 metres from the apartment)

by the owners who showed us the apartment and explained everything.

Menton town centre is a little way away but easy to reach by bus (buy a carnet of 10 tickets for 10 euros) or by car (5 mins) or a slow stroll (30 mins). If walking, then it is best to go on the lower level of the promenade as this takes you past several restaurants where you can stop and relax with a glass of local rose wine.

This walk also takes you past several of the more sheltered beaches.

Menton itself has a large pedestrianised area supported by a wonderful covered market with lots of bars/restaurants and numerous shops.

This is also the area of the main beach, but the sea can be a little choppy here if the wind gets up.

If you do not wish to drive, then going to places such as Monaco or Monte-Carlo or even into Italy is easy on the train.

The downside of being so close to Monaco is that it inflates the cost of living in Menton which we found to be quite high.

We agree with you: we are a bit secluded from the town center, but we consider it an advantage, particularly during the noisy and crowded peak season. Teenagers may not appreciate it, but little kids love socializing in our private pool (indeed a safe and controlled environment) and this is also why we often have families with children.

From the Owner

We bought our property in Menton Garavan to stay away from the town center, quite crowded in the summer, and to benefit of a reasonable comfort: a parking space and a large balcony (an unusual privilege in old buildings). Its' location is ideal to enjoy nature and peace and occasionally do our errands just over the Italian border. We are definitely considering to retire in Garavan. We spend most of our vacations there and always keep an eye on the good conditions of our apartment, which we try to make as comfortable as we can.

Nearest Golf : Golf Club Monte Carlo at 8 Kilometres Nearest Motorway : at 5 Kilometres Nearest Ski : Limone Piemonte at 80 Kilometres


You can reach Nice airport by train (and a little train station is right behind the house). You can walk to the Italian border (about 500 yards away) and have a coffee there.

Further Details:

Garavan is the residential green area of Menton at 15 minutes walk from the town center, which you could also reach by bus or cycling along the beautiful sea promenade. A special microclimate, mainly due to the the barrier and proximity of the mountains, leads to good weather during most of the year and allows even tropical plants to grow in the numerous botanical gardens spread in the area. From our apartment everything is at hand: pebble beaches and sandy beaches are within walking distance, as well as the new Garavan harbour and the Italian border. Hiking trails towards Alpes Maritimes start very close to the house. Sports activities can be easily arranged: swimming, sailing, canoeing and tennis courses are just an example.

Two supermarkets are in the area. At night you can enjoy the restaurants by the harbour, the local Casino, and the extraordinary classical music festival during the month of August.

From Menton Garavan you can reach lots of interesting places in a short while and most of these are connected by train (there's a tiny train station at 2 minutes walk from the house). Nice is at 40 minutes distance by train and Montecarlo at 30 minutes. Lots of attractions are also available for children: the wonderful aquarium in Montecarlo, the Cocteau Museum, Cap Ferrat and the Zoo Park, the Natural Park Mercantour, the Prehistorical Museum at Balzi Rossi, St Roch Fortress (Ligne Maginot).

  • Outside: A shared swimming pool is open from the beginning of June till the end of September and is surrounded by a patio where children play cards and adults can read and chat. There is also a common lounge with couches, next to the main entrance. Utility Room: Washing machine, iron and ironing board, vacuum cleaner, buckets and cleaning products are supplied. A shopping trolley is available if you don't want to take the car. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen and 4 towels (2 big and 2 small) available. Extras are rentable upon request. We ask our guests to return the flat in the good conditions in which they receive it and, if final cleaning is left to us, we apply an extra fee. Other: In the hall there is a large wardrobe for coats, clothes, blankets and pillows. In the large shaded balcony, that overlooks the garden there are 2 deck chairs, a table and chairs for 4 people. From spring on, you can comfortably eat outside.
