It is full of charm and character, yet modernised to the highest standards with extensive facilities, and is situated in a quiet location on the side of a gentle hill with lovely south facing views over the surrounding rolling countryside and vineyards.

We cater for all sizes of parties and can accommodate both the very young; the elderly; or those with limited mobility/wheel chair users.

Extensive equipment is provided complimentary for infants and young children. There is no need to bring any of your babies or childrens equipment with you which means you have the option of flying to Bergerac or Bordeaux if you prefer.

The covered tiled terrace is ideal for BBQs, with table and chairs provided for 'al fresco' dining or just simply enjoying the views over the garden and surrounding countryside.

The 11x5m pool is surrounded by a very large sheltered terrace with many sun beds and parasols. The pool is fitted with a retractable telescopic pool cover. There is a Solar heated shower adjacent to the swimming pool.

There are 6 terraces;

4. 4x3m first floor balcony faces west and is an ideal point to view the pool and enjoy a sundowner to watch the sun set

5. Breakfast terrace for the morning sun leads from the kitchen.

6. Covered main terrace leading from the kitchen

Atmospheric lighting throughout enables the pool and terraces to be used late into the evening.

The gardens extend to over 3 acres with a fenced lower garden of 2 acres. This large garden is perfect for football with football goals, and rounders. There is also a supersize trampoline, childrens play area, sand pit, Wendy House and boules.

Ground Floor

The focal point of the barn is a vast sitting room measuring 9m x 8m and which is open to a magnificent timbered 'cathedral' ceiling. This sitting room is full of character with the original stone walls and tiled floors. Located within the lounge is an entertainment area which includes a 50in HD plasma TV connected to a DVD and VCR. A championship pool table is also in the lounge area which our guests really enjoy and many tournaments are enjoyed late into the evening. There is a comprehensive Information Area with maps and leaflets. There are lots of board games for all ages for our guests to enjoy.

The kitchen and dining area leads from the sitting room. This area is 9m x 4m with tiled floors and oak fitted units. It also has a large Range Master dual fuel gas oven, microwave oven, dishwasher, washing machine and large fridge/freezer. The dining area in the kitchen can comfortably accommodate 12. The kitchen opens through double French doors, onto a partly covered tiled terrace. There is a Weber charcoal and gas BBQ, and table and chairs on the terrace ideal for dining.

Downstairs the two superking triple bedrooms Lavender and Vert, have adjacent en-suite shower rooms, with exposed stone walls, tiled floors and doors to their own terraces leading to the pool area.

About Tracey Jones

I live in Salisbury, Wiltshire & enjoy cycling, golf and walking. The holiday home was purchased after holidaying for many years in the Dordogne as a family. The farmhouse needed extensive renovation but we thought it was worth all the hard work, due to it's location close to Chateau Vigiers golf course www.vigiers.com. I hope you have a wonderful holiday and are here to arrange everything for you to make your holiday stress free - Tracey Jones

Tracey Jones purchased this villa in 2002

Why Tracey Jones chose Perigord Pourpre

We love this part of the Dordogne as it is peaceful and rural with wonderful scenery, but still only 20 minutes to Bergerac and 1 hour from Bordeaux. The area has many colourful markets and night markets, a wide variety of good restaurants and lots of things to do for all ages. Golf is only 5 minutes away- Chateau des Vigiers - which is a pleasure to play. The house is surrounded by a network of quiet lanes which are safe and ideal for walking and cycling. Wild boar, deer and birds of prey are numerous. There are also numerous vineyards offering wine tasting, as well as the world famous St Emillion and Monbazillac. After travelling all over the world, this special area has proved to be very special. We hope you feel the same.

What makes this villa unique

The farmhouse has many extras to ensure guests have a special holiday. For children the wendy house, sand pit, trampoline and heated pool are a big hit. For older "kids" the table tennis and plasma are a treat. We provide complimentary, unlimited, fast speed broadband. Bath and pool towels are also provided free of charge. We try to provide the best for our holidaymakers, with superking master beds, very good quality mattresses, duvets and Bedeck linen. All master bedrooms have tea/coffee facilities.

The kitchen is well stocked and also has a Rangemaster large stove. You will be truly spoilt.

perfect stay

  • 5 of 5

This property has everything one could possibly wish for. The listing description was accurate but the photos do not do it justice. The facilities within the property are numerous and the customer service provided by the owner was incredible. she could not do enough to ensure we had a happy holiday. The local restaurants were excellent, the roads were quiet enabling us all to cycle, we went canoeing and of course the pool was invaluable with young children included in our party. The area is quiet and pretty and don't forget the wine tasting!

Fantastic villa for holidays, for all ages.

  • 5 of 5

Another brilliant stay at Acabanes, can highly recommend this holiday home for anyone at any age.it has everything one could possible want or need, indoors and out. Heated covered pool a hit with everyone, likewise pool table. Children are never bored, there is so much to keep them entertained and so much space, again, inside and out side, for them. Lots of terraces and dining areas around the property also, so a quiet corner is always to hand, if required !The welcome pack is super.Very clean and well maintained, it is obvious that a lot of thought has gone into providing everything for a lovely holiday.

Lots of information provided in the Villa for activities, restaurants etc, too numerous to mention here. Lovely area for walking, cycling, wine tasting etc.lots of lovely little markets to visit also.

"Nick's 40th Birthday Celebration"

  • 5 of 5

We booked Acabanes for my 40th Birthday celebration, and had a wonderful stay at the house.

The location was idyllic, with great facilities and plenty to do in the grounds of the house for all ages. Tracey was very helpful, and will organise trips out, and restaurants etc if required. All in all a fantastic Holiday & 40th Birthday enjoyed by myself & my family and our guests.

Wonderful French trip

  • 5 of 5

Our friends recommended this villa to us. We booked a March visit as we like walking and touring. We enjoyed visiting the many little Bastide villages and castles, especially Monpazier and Monflanquin. Although very quiet as early in the season it was nice to sit in the squares and enjoy coffee. We really enjoyed lots of lovely walks through the vines and especially liked walking to Saussignac where we had a nice meal at Lion D'Or. The wood burning stoves made it very cosy in the evenings and many a glass of wine was enjoyed whilst watching a dvd!!

Whatever you enjoy doing on holiday, the area has something for all tastes.

This lovely villa is situated in South West France, in a lovely area of the Western Dordogne, close to the towns of Bergerac, Duras and Eymet and one hour drive east of Bordeaux. It is only six hours driving time from the port of St Malo.

It is a wonderful location for golfers as is only five minutes from Château Vigiers, one of the best golf resorts in France which also has a 1 Star Michelin restaurant. Our guests receive a 30% discount on golf rounds at Vigiers. We have complimentary trolleys/bags/clubs for our guests to enable them to fly rather than drive, if they choose to.

The nearest large town is Bergerac, twenty minutes north east of the house. Bergerac is a Medievel town which is fascinating to explore with a Tobacco Museum and Wine Museum. Visitors can also take river cruises on the Dordogne river in a traditional boat.

Bordeaux is an easy 1 hour drive or a short train ride from St Foy la Grande, just 15 minutes away. Bordeaux has a world beating Wine Museum called the Cite Du Vin which a unique museum dedicated to the wine culture. Bordeaux also has fantastic shopping and restaurants.

Arcachon and the Atlantic coast is a 90 minute drive. Visit the famous Dune De Pyla, the largest sand dune in Europe and eat oysters in Arcachon Bay with a chilled glass of white wine.

All our guests enjoy Famille Moutier for a traditional Perigordine Sunday lunch. It is a 4 hour experience for 38€ with all wines included. Just a 10 minute cycle or 2 minute drive away.

The local, friendly restaurant of Relais de Monestier is also a great place to eat with 2 courses for 16€ and carafes of local village wine. Monestier is just a 5 minute drive.

The Sunday morning market at Issigeac, a medieval village is a wonderful experience where with the locals you can buy oysters, foes gras, the sweet white wine of Monbazillac and local vegetables from farmers in the surrounding villages.

Our guests really enjoy local wine tasting and we have close links with 3 local vineyards.

1. Chateau Feely is an award winning organic, biodynamic vineyard, where Caro and Sean will welcome you warmly.

2. Chateau Lestevenie was recently televised on Channel 4 - New Lives in The Sun. Humphrey will show you around his vineyard where rare, wild orchids grow.

3. Chateau Thenac in the village where Caroline will guide you through the magnificent wines and where you must try the Plum Eau de Vie.

Our guests also enjoy wine tasting in Ste Emilion, a world Heritage Unesco Site. Tracey can recommend where to taste wine in the village and also the best places to have lunch.

All the local villages have colourful markets. Out of season there are also speciality markets including truffles and walnuts.

There is a buddist retreat also close by, Plum Village, and our guests are always welcome to visit to share lunch with the monks and sisters or to share in a meeting.

Acabanes is full of charm and character, situated in a quiet location on the side of a gentle hill with south facing views over the surrounding rolling countryside and vineyards and within an easy walk of the local village of Thenac.

The large village of Siguoles is a five minute drive away and has all the amenities of a typical French village including a restaurant, supermarket; boulangerie; charcuterie; tabac; bank; cafe; pharmacy

Other local Activities include; Go karting; Ten Pin Bowling; Canoeing; Waterparks, horse riding and fishing

Additional Golf information - Tee times can be booked by Tracey, the owner and advice given on courses, locally and further afield. Acabanes is only five minutes from Chateau des Vigiers, one of the best golf resorts in France. Donald Steel (designer of the Forest of Arden championship course) is considered to be one of the very best 'natural' golf course architects, created this unique 18-hole, par 72 course in its enthralling setting amidst plum trees, oak woods, lakes and vineyards. Donald, who has contributed to many world-famous courses such as the Jubilee and Eden courses at St. Andrews as well as Chantilly in France, designed the course with the Château as its centrepiece; the 9th and 18th finishing off in front of the Château; and many of the other undulating greens with different perspectives of the Château. When asked by Golf World to name his favourite hole from his long career, Donald chose N° 18 at Château des Vigiers, with its dogleg over a ridge for the second shot over the lake on to the green, in front of the Château. Subsequently it was described in Golf World under the heading 'Vintage Finale'. Château des Vigiers' course is maintained as a holiday course with short rough, promoting quick play and accessibility for higher handicaps. However, the greens are frequently lightning fast and prove a test for any golfer. With strategic pin positions and longer rough, the course can be turned into a challenge for the best golfer.
