The property is also within walking distance of a number of more traditional eating establishments. I am a mother with 2 children, age 9 & 12 and a very busy husband! I gave up work with Procter and Gamble 9 years ago to spend time at home with the children. I have loved being able to spend so much time with them. However, with both children now at school, I was keen to start working again. I initially enjoyed managing two of our own holiday properties in the Italian Lakes which we bought in 2008 and 2009 following our first visit to the area in 2007. However, I have now started to manage holiday homes for others, not just in the Italian Lakes, but elsewhere in Italy through my website - I carefully select each property and ensure that I maintain that personal but professional service level that I believe holidaymakers are looking for.

Fabulous apartment

When we were taken into the apartment there was certainly a WOW factor. The apartment is spacious ultra modern and well fitted out. The views from the balcony over the lake were fantastic. The on site restaurant is really modern with excellent food and was certainly a fitting place to celebrate my wife's 60th birthday.

The only minor irritation was the WiFi which seemed to only work out on the balcony, not exactly a show stopper!

Most Enjoyable

A Beautiful modern 3 bed/2bath very well laid out apartment in Golfo Gabella, Maccagno which was perfect for our family(6 adults & 1 child).Top floor(of 3) with lift & stairs.2 balconies, one which is full lenght of the apartment with sun almost all day with solid wall around, suited for safety of our 3 year old grandson, the other balcony looked towards the pools & had partial view out across the lake. The complex is very well kept.

There is a Train Station just 5 min walk runs all the way to Milan Malpensa airport terminal. Some rail noise but not troublesome at all. Very convenient for visiting local areas also. There is a lovely lake front walk to the Boat terminal where you can get boat tours to various locations in Lake Maggoire.

The village just 5-10 min walk(uphill!) has several restuarants, small shops, bank, post office etc.

This was a lovely place to stay and holiday in. Located near the Swiss border if one wished to venture there. We did not hire a car on this holiday so thankfully the weather was nice. If the weather was poor a car would be needed.

The only thing which was disappointing for us was the pools were too cold to swim in. But I am sure a few more weeks of warm weather might solve that. Lovely deck & pools with spectacular views across lake Maggoire.

The staff were wonderful and most helpful. We were very grateful for a late check out as our flight was not until 10pm. So we got the 6pm train all the way to the airport...couldn't have been better.

If you like the outdoors, hills, lakes and mixing with the local people then this would make a lovely holiday destination.

My family and I bought a property on Lake Maggiore - it's where we fell hook, line and sinker in love with the country! It's just an amazing area to holiday in, with something for all ages to enjoy from babies and toddlers to teens, parents and grandparents.

Coast/Beach:

The apartments are situated right on the lakeside and the beach at Maccagno is a short stroll away. The beach here is one of the best beaches on the lake to enjoy watersports such as windsurfing, sailing and kitesurfing. Many towns around the lake also have their own lido with lake access and wonderful swimming pools. Of note are those at Locarno, Lugano and Ascona.

Travel:

Fly to Milan Malpensa: approx 45 miles from the property. Easyjet and Monarch fly from LGW.

Fly to Milan Bergamo: transfer time approx 120 mins.

Fly to Milan Linate: transfer time approx 120 mins.

A train service runs from either Milan Malpensa airport or from Milan Central Station which will take you to Luino or Maccagno in 1-2 hours depending on the day and time of travel. A taxi service or boat can then take you from Luino to the apartment. It is within a walk of Maccagno station.

Distances:

The centre of Maccagno is a short walk away. The village has a selection of bars and restaurants, an icecream shop, cafe and newsagents. There is also a superb restaurant on site serving modern Italian cuisine as well as a cafe where you can enjoy breakfast, lunch or an aperitif before dinner. The cafe has both indoor and outdoor seating overlooking the lake. The boat terminal is also within walking distance, where you can catch a boat to the other villages on the lake.

Further Details:

The property is perfectly placed for visiting Luino, Cannobio, Cannero, Stresa, Ascona & the Borromean Islands. A great day out is the Lake Maggiore Express by boat up to Ascona and Locarno where you take the '100 Valley' train into the Swiss Alps then connect to Stresa and back by boat to Luino. Also in Switzerland, Valle Verzasca is worth a visit. You can visit the Verzasca Dam which features in Goldeneye. The setting is idyllic. Como is just a 45 min drive. Lake Como enjoys its own ferry service and features Bellagio and Varenna plus Villa Carlotta. In the other direction, Orta San Giulio is definitely one of the prettiest villages on any of the Italian Lakes. It's only a 45 min drive from Lugano & the Monte Salvatore funicular. There is a beautiful lido here too which I would recommend. The brand new lido in Locarno (opened Oct 2009) is also superb.

Or you can catch a train into Milan and go shopping. It's a short metro train ride to Santa Maria delle Grazie and Da Vinci's painting of 'The Last Supper.' If you're more of a sports fan, you can take a tour of San Siro stadium.

For cheaper shopping, Luino boasts the biggest weekly market in Europe. Or you could have a look at Foxtown, an outlet centre where the most famous brands offer their products at factory prices.

Nearby Maccagno is one of the best spots on the lake to enjoy watersports.

Val Veddasca is ideal for hiking. The scenery and nature is fabulous. Most of the nearby mountains also have tracks for mountain bikes.

The area offers plenty to do for children - Swissminiatur, the Alprose Swiss chocolate factory and the European Museum of Transport. Monte Tamaro is a great place with an alpine bob sleigh and the longest flying fox in Switzerland! Or you could try your hand at falconry or visit a safari park! There is a huge waterpark near Milan.

The location of these apartments is particularly good. Right on the lakeside, within walking distance of beaches and watersports, there is also a cafe and bar on site as well as an excellent restaurant, serving modern Italian cuisine. There are plenty of other, more traditional eating establishments within a short walk. It is also possible to walk to the boat terminal, where you can catch a boat to all the other towns and villages on the lake. Whilst I always recommend hiring a car to make the most of your stay, this is actually one place where you could get about without one.

Please note that whilst most apartments have air conditioning, there are a couple of apartments that don't have air con. Please check that your property is fitted with air conditioning when booking if this is an important factor for you. Outside: The outside areas within the development are immaculately maintained. There is a large communal swimming pool surrounded by teak decking and luxury loungers, as well as a smaller childrens pool and jacuzzi. These all enjoy views of the lake. There are also grassed areas. There is plenty of parking to the front of the property and some apartments also come with their own covered parking space or garage. Each apartment has a private terrace. Some enjoy lake views, whilst others have a partial lake view or view of the hills. Each terrace has outdoor seating, ideal for al fresco dining.
