About Graham Thomson

Graham & Jan Thomson. We have lived in this area for over 16 years and we are still finding new walks to go on. Plenty to do and see in the local area.

Graham Thomson purchased this cottage in 2011

Why Graham Thomson chose Herefordshire

Fell in love with The Cot Cottage when we saw it and we believe it makes the most perfect holiday cottage, in a truly wonderful location.

The Cottage has the most wonderful views over to the river and Symonds Yat Rock.

The cottage has the advantage of being remote, but being able to look down from a distance onto the river activities. Perfect to wind down in the evening with a glass of wine, watching the wildlife (deer, pereguines, hawks etc.).

The Cot is in a wonderful location, away from the crowds, offering wonderful seclusion.

What makes this cottage unique

Please note: THIS COTTAGE HAS QUITE A FEW STAIRS & A SLOPING PATH. The views and seclusion are second to none. The cottage is set in its own grounds of approx. 2 acres, yet it is within a 15 minute walk to the river and riverside pubs.

The cottage itself (circa 1760), is very homely and tastefully decorated and is extremely well equipped.

You can go on wonderful varied walks straight from the cottage, either down to the river, or up to King Arthur's Cave or the Roman Fort on top of Little Doward.

There are many tourist activities close by and lots to see and do.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"We have stayed in many cottages all over the UK - I have to say "The Cot" is the nicest yet! The views are amazing, the locals very friendly and you come back to a simply wonderful cottage. Nothing has been spared in making this cottage a home from home - 5 stars!!!

"Location! Location! Location! Spell-bound all week. The many thoughtful and kind touches from the owners make The Cot a real home from home. Even hooks on doors - rare in holiday cottages. We have had a memorable break and found the privacy we sought - just 2 hours from home."

"Spectacular views... Fabulous, comfortable cottage with everything you need for a most enjoyable stay. Our two dogs have also had an amazing holday - thank you, would definately come back!"

Our holiday in Ross on Wye

  • 4 of 5

We found the cottage to be comfortable, clean and very well equipped. Your every need catered for. A bottle of wine greeted our arrival. Which we thought was a lovely gesture also milk, tea, coffee etc awaited the weary traveller. The views are stunning across the Wye valley and we spent our evenings sitting out on the patio enjoying the view. The only drawback we found, as pensioners, was the many, many steep steps down to and up from to the cottage. It was hard going for us. I knew there were some steps to be negotiated but I just wasn't prepared for so many. In spite of this we had a nice holiday. I would recommend the cottage to anyone fit enough to cope with the steps.

Beautiful Cottage with everything you could possibly need. The views are spectacular. Would love to stay longer next time and really explore the area as there was quite a lot to see. Owners are lovely.

Cosy Cottage

  • 5 of 5

The cottage has everything you need from logs for fire to kitchen roll, really comfortable cottage with wonderful views from the terrace, the cottage is very clean and bed linen and towels are of a high quality, the steps are a bit steep but after the first time you soon get used to them, The owners left us a bottle of wine and tea cakes for our arrival which was most welcome, very peaceful location and if you want to "get some peace and quiet"Cot Cottage is the ideal place to stay.

Lovely Cottage

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I, with our Hungarian Vizsla stayed at 'The Cot' over the Christmas period. When we were near, we phoned the owners for more directions, they went one better and Graham met us at the local Spar to guide us up the hill. The roads going up the hill are narrow, just room for one car, but you can pass oncoming traffic by pulling into peoples' drives. He then took the time to show us around the cottage and tell us about the local amenities, ie. where the local pubs and walks were. The cottage is very well equipped with a washer/dryer, fridge with a proper freezer compartment and handiest of all, a dishwater. The cottage also has WiFi. It is as described in the listing. The bottle of wine and Welsh cakes were very nice too :-). The owner had also left milk in the fridge with tea/coffee and sugar in pots for our use. I must reiterate about the climb from the car parking area to the cottage, it is VERY steep, but once all the unpacking has been done it is a very relaxing location with stunning views across the Wye Valley. The steps aren't for the faint hearted, but once done a few times you started to get used to it. Our dog loved the walks, which were plentiful. The walks in the woods and also along the River Wye were amazing. He also enjoyed zooming around the garden. It is an great cottage with absolutely amazing views. We have stayed in a few holiday cottages, but this one was by far the best equipped. We would recommend 'The Cot' to both friends and family without hesitation.

Wonderful Cottage

  • 5 of 5

The Cot was beautiful, just as described. The walk to and from The Cot is not for the faint hearted, as it is very steep, but well worth it. The views are amazing and the peaceful setting was just what we wanted. We watched the falcons daily and the boats going up and down the river. Our son even came face to face with a stag while walking in the woods. The Cot was very clean and had everything needed for a relaxing break. The owners were lovely and came out to meet us and show us where everything was. We were left tea, coffee milk and a lovely bottle of wine and welsh teacakes. We would recommend the Cot to our family and friends. The only negative we have is the steps and the walk to and from The Cot while carrying all your luggage and shopping, but once your there its fantastic sitting on the patio watching the world go by.

Wonderful place!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at The Cot and I'm sure we'll return in the future. The location is absolutely fantastic, with amazing views across the Wye Valley. The steps to negotiate down from where the car is parked are well worth it - do not be put off by this. The cottage is very well equipped - wifi being particularly appreciated. We had a minor problem with the electric shower, but the owners were very attentive despite the fact they were on holiday themselves during our stay. There is no doubt the owners want their guests to have the best possible experience. There is loads to do in the local area - no need to travel far! Prices very reasonable, even in school holidays, which we were very pleased about as we have school age children. All in all, a memorable holiday with many delightful experiences to look back on.
