Ski Chalet With Spectacular Uninterrupted Mountain, Forest And Lake Views

Updated: 05-Sep-2016
Ski Chalet in Les Angles, Pyrenees Orientales, Catalonia - Wonderful Location For All Year Round Sport And Relaxation. Snow, Sun And Catalan Culture

A charming chalet in a truly spectacular setting overlooking the lakes, mountains and villages of the sunny Capcir region. Nestled in a great position next to the pistes, it's easily accessible by car with a free car-park across the road and a free bus service ('navette') down the hill to the village centre. A huge range of year-round sports is on offer and the apartment is ideally located for touring to Spain (Girona, Barcelona and the Costa Brava),Perpignan and the french mediterranean coast as well as other (french, spanish and andorran) ski and mountain resorts in the beautiful Capcir and Cerdagne Valleys. View the ancient catalan buildings and the more recent Vauban forts and the solar furnace, or relax in the nearby thermal spas. Try catalan cuisine or take time to write or paint the truly breathtaking scenery. Access is by main roads or train and many airports and airlines serve the area (Barcelona, Girona, Perpignan and Toulouse). There are campervans emplacements.

About the Owner

We spend part of our time in both Brittany and the Pyrenees. We have a property in each area to let through Owners Direct. Please have a look at 'beachfront apartment La Turballe, Loire Atlantique' and 'Ski Chalet Pyrenees Orientales, Les Angles' right here on Owners' Direct! While I really enjoyed my teaching career in Ireland and England for over 30 years, I now love providing holidays for others in both these absolutely wonderful locations in France. Please do not hesitate to contact me directly if you have any queries about holidaying in either of these properties. Warm Regards, Caitlin.

We have stayed twice now at Chalet..... and have had two wonderful holidays. We are a family, young kids age 5 to 8 and Les Angles is a fantastic family resort. Very friendly and great service - a big change from French Alps. We flew to Carcasonne and most recently to Barcelona and hire car from there all very easy and great value. The Chalet is small and perfectly formed but what takes it to another level are the most unbelievable views, from a huge wall encompassing window in the main room, across the whole valley utterly stunning. t our youngest were exhausted by the end of the day so we cooked in every night this year just breakfast in and rest of meals out. Les Angles is great value as is the chalet. The chalet is also very well located for the resort and skiing - first year we drove into town and second year took bus and the stop is just 50 meters from the front door. I would recommend the chalet to anyone and Les Angles in particular to families and anyone learning to s

ki through intermediate. If you have happened upon the chalet congratulations you've found a real winner. We plan to be back again and must also mention the owners Caitlin and Paul who are lovely and easy and very welcoming. More than that on both our trips there have been areas of our holiday that definitely do not come under a chalet owners job description - this visit it was snow chains and Caitlin and Paul just come to the rescue!! Many thanks go to them for all their help and for another lovely holiday.

what a great find!

Fantastic property, cosy, impeccably clean, and with everything you could possibly need provided (including comfy duvets and lovely bedlinen). The views are absolutely amazing, the warmest welcome from our lovely hosts. we thoroughly enjoyed it despite being in the heights of the village (though the kids didn't mind the uphill walk back home) the views and tranquility made it all worthwhile.

From the Owner

Both of us came to skiing quite late in life but the effects of getting out for some exercise and topping up our Vitamin D while enjoying (far too many) stops at cafes to enjoy the magnificent scenery has made a huge difference to our lives. We love this part of the Pyrenees also for its proximity to the Mediterranean, to the Spanish Catalan region, but above all for the breathtaking beauty of local nature; mountains, lakes, pastures and streams, in the Capcir and Cerdagne valleys.

Activity and Interests

Car: not necessary

Special interest holidays:

We do recommend the local winter and summer sports schools (details in Chalet or at the Tourist Office). Many Schools speak a range of languages.

The french and spanish mediterranean resorts are @ two hours' drive. Our favourites inlcude Collioure and Cadaqués. You will be spoilt for choice along the coast from Narbonne to Barcelona whether you prefer busy town beaches with many amenities or quieter coves.

Perpignan (90 mins)

Barcelona (2 hours 40 mins)

Girona (2 hours 30 mins)

Toulouse (2 hours 45 mins)

Set overlooking Les Angles, a major ski resort in this region.

The Capcir and Cerdagne Valleys are dotted with villages of historical and architectural interest. Andorra is only 50 minutes' drive; Spanish villages share the Valley and are 30-40 minutes away. A 2 hour 30 minute drive gets one to Barcelona and Perpignan is 1 hour 30 minutes' drive. One is surrounded by fantastic opportunities for outdoor, lake and mountain activities including naturally heated outdoor baths from the mountains.

Further Details:

Les Angles is well served by supermarkets, butchers and bakers as well as souvenir shops and shops for all the sports and outdoor equipment you may require. There are many local ski/ snowboard schools and guides for raquettes and randonees of all sorts. As one would expect there are many bars and restaurants and all the facilities one would expect of a small town. As a tourist resort, many languages are spoken, including English. We had no difficulty finding an excellent english-speaking instructor for a beginner skier for example. Local catalan cuisine seems to offer the best of so many worlds. We were surprised to find a couple of breton-style creperies in the area as well as some excellent pizzerias-(takeaways). One well-known local custom is to bring one's barbecue supplies up in the ski-lift (gondola) in the morning and drop them off at 'Refuge des Pelerins' at the top of the lift where one can return at lunchtime and use the barbecue facilities to cook and eat en famille. A truly catalan ambience! Look out for the gracious Pyrenean Mountain Dog who lives at Le Chalet Restaurant nearby and who occasionally takes the gondola to the village on her own to visit the neighbours!

Skiing and snowboarding opportunities seem to cater for all ages and abilities.

The view speaks for itself. The panorama of mountain, lakes, villages and valley offers snow to sun and the south-facing chalet is set on a ridge which gives access to slopes, walks and so many sporting opportunities. One could simply spend the day gazing at the wonderful environment, or try a new activity with family or friends.

  • Notes on accommodation: Chalet du Capcir is a charming, mountain chalet in a ski resort with one of the most spectacular views from its bay window and bedrooms we have ever seen. We keep the separate basement area for ourselves and will be available if needed during rentals. At a glance, from the lounge area, one can take in the tiny ribbon of road in the valley beneath which wends its way round the beautiful lake Matemale directly below, leading in one direction to the caves at Fontrabiouse and in the other to the villages and a choice of ski resorts. The view is always changing, an artist or writer's dream. Out the front door to the forest walks or in summer to the picnic spots and fishing lakes that dot the whole region. Deer and other wildlife roam the area freely. One can nestle in the attic bedrooms, gazing out at the sparkling peaks while the frequent sunshine beckons one outside to try a café, hiking or rambling, browsing the shops, or relaxing in the natural thermal springs for an afternoon. Outside: Situated next to pistes. Ski home routes. Communal forested area. Communal forest walks and pistes. Walk down the back of the ridge in the summer to picnic at a nearby lake. If you simply want to sit in the sun in the communal forested area, we can provide a sunlounger and little table. Lots of free parking near lifts and for Chalet. Utility Room: Handwashing facilities and clothes airer, iron and ironing board. Access to external washing line. Full laundry facilities available in the village 'Laverie'. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen may be pre-booked with owner for a small fee. Similarly cleaning may be booked with owner during a stay for a small fee. Please email owner (Caitlin) or see our booking form. Other: Some storage in the hallway for skis, snowboards, boots and other sports materials. We use internet access in a couple of friendly locations in the village for the price of a coffee. A 3G key can be arranged. Cot/High Chair may be booked in advance.
