About this property

An Ancient Trullo With Pool Nestled With Views Over A Beautiful Private Valley

TRULLO TERRABRONZATA lies secluded and close to the pretty and historic town of Cisternino. A two minute drive , or eight minutes walk.
The location is very rural and peaceful, private and not overlooked, on a very quiet side road.

It successfully merges the traditional, centuries old 'Trullo' construction, with contemporary living on two levels featuring all modern comforts and crisp interior design with antique appointments. Designed as our 'home' rather than a basic holiday let, it is well kitted out throughout.

There are two bathrooms and a further guest bathroom with a shower. A twin bedroom and two double bedrooms sleeping six are located to provide cooler conditions, with central heating for the colder months. The oak kitchen is a bespoke Mark Wilkinson design, with quality appliances. A dining room next to the kitchen seats six and leads on to a large elevated dining terrace seating ten, and seating area. The sitting room is lateral with the dining and kitchen.

There is a television (for DVD only/ library on site ) but also with hundreds of Italian channels ! We have a CD/Ipod docking system and Wi-Fi. Your personal sounds can be played through BlueTooth, which can be enjoyed with indoor and exterior speakers.
The sitting area has the view over a front terrace. The pool and dining/sunbathing terraces are located within almost two acres of garden with ancient olives.

There are four different terraces and a fifth (roof terrace) which has been enjoyed by those who prefer 100% al fresco !

We have recently installed a large custom designed barbecue and naturally, had to have anther table ! With three external dining areas and one internal, we could almost sit 40 people now.

The pool is 10 x 5 metres and has an adjacent shower, and a large shaded pergola area. Privatised with established Cypress trees and standard Oleander planting, a very good chill out space, and sun worshipping terrace .

We are blessed to be in a very central position with easy access ( 10 minutes each direction) to many nearby and fabulous towns , all with beautiful architecture, historic centres , shopping, and fabulous eateries .

Beautiful Trullo in Great Location
We had a lovely stay at Trullo Terrabronzata. Loved all the different seating areas to catch the sun/shade. It was hot [40c+ some days] when we were there but the bedrooms were good with fans. The pool is wonderful to cool down. The whole space has been very well thought out and the trullo is well equipped. It's walkable into Cisternino [approx 20 mins]; however, we drove as it's only 5 minutes. It really is a beautiful town and comes alive at night. We've been to Italy a number of times but this was our first time to Puglia. It's a short drive to some wonderful places such as Locorontondo, Martina Franca and Ostuni. The beach isn't too far away either with some nice beach clubs/lidos. We had great communication from Stephen and the local managers. We'd highly recommend the trullo and would love to come back one day. Thanks again.

A truly magical Trullo in a lovely rural setting
Trullo Terrabronzata in Puglia is a truly magical place to stay! Set in the heart of Puglia, a rural area with historic mountain-top towns, many delightfully restored trulli, and terrific food, the Trullo Terrabronzata is located in one of the best regions in Italy. If you are looking to visit this region, then Trullo Terrabronzata is highly recommended. It is a superb villa! The interior is quite stunning, benefitting from attention to every detail, perfectly maintained and spotless, which ensures a really comfortable and enjoyable stay for a group of adults. The Trullo is set in a very large garden of ancient olive trees and lavender, and this provides a fabulous setting in which to unwind and recharge your batteries. We enjoyed relaxing around the pool, reading, chatting, sketching and doing yoga, and the shaded seating area by the pool was the most perfect environment for this. We also enjoyed daily ‘fitness walks’ up the hill to do the shopping in nearby Cisternino, bringing back fruit and vegetables, local meats, cheeses and wine from the shops and the bustling Monday market. The kitchen at the Trullo is superbly equipped, which made cooking a joy, and there are several areas around the trullo to sit and enjoy a meal in the shade or sun, whichever you prefer. The estate managers, Costanza & David, were very helpful and responsive. As were the local security company who turned out within seconds when we had problems with the sensitive burglar alarm. The food in the Puglia region is top class rural fare and there are a few excellent restaurants in Cisternino. There is plenty of parking in the town, so it is an easy trip out. The nearby towns of Alberobello, Ostuni, Martina Franca and also the beaches of Torre Canne are all worth a visit, so there is plenty to do when you are ready to leave the luxury of the Trullo Terrabronzata and explore the local history and landscape. The nature of the Trullo means it is not suitable for very young children (or people with limited mobility) and indeed there is a minimum age of 25 years set for visitors.

Beautiful, historic, luxurious holiday home.
Thanks to two embarrassing, drunken englishmen on our Ryanair flight our holiday experience started off with a delayed arrival at Brindisi Airport. This didn’t phase the estate managers of Trullo Terrabronzata, Costanza & David at all. They waited patiently for our arrival, communicated with us throughout and greeted us at the Trullo in a very professional and welcoming manner even though it was almost midnight. Trullo Terrabronzata is a stunning property with three beautiful bedrooms each individually designed and stunningly decorated, we chose the master bedroom with a fourposter bed and ensuite bathroom and had a great night's sleep excited about what the morning might bring. We weren’t disappointed! The property stands in a couple of acres of land stocked with olive and citrus trees. The views are stunning and the surrounding silence is heavenly, we chose to breakfast on the rear veranda adjacent to the living room and kitchen but could have chosen any one of the five seating areas, each with different views and varying amounts of shade or sun. The Trullo is well equipped, maintained to a very high standard and very, very comfortable. We stayed in early October when the nights are starting to get a little bit chilly and although Costanza and David had offered to come back and turn the central heating on we chose to light the log burner. The simple to use stove warmed the whole property through very quickly ensuring that we were warm and cozy every night. The swimming pool is outstanding, detached from the property equipped with it’s own shaded seating area and several sun loungers it is an amazing place to pass the afternoon away. The pool was cleaned in the early hours of the morning, as we had been promised, so as not to disturb us during the day. Just another indication of the owners attention to detail and understanding of their customers needs. Cisternino is a 20 minute walk away and has an abundance of trattoria and restaurants that will suit everybody’s tastes. Cisternino old town is made up of lots of tiny alleyways and squares that quickly transport you back to “real Italy” absolutely delightful. If you prefer to drive there is plenty of space to park. We enjoyed visiting the surrounding towns of Alberobello, Ostuni and Torre Canne but best of all loved getting back to the luxurious surroundings of Trullo Terrabronzata. Don't hesitate book your stay this place is exceptional.

A stylish gem in the heart of Puglia
The owners of this property have really pulled the stops out to create a fabulous and picturesque Trullo that blends easily into the landscape and offers first class facilities for the guests. We have stayed there 3 times over the past few years and will stay there again. Great access to the local village, lovely pool and accommodation well set out to suit a family or six friends. The gardens are a delight and the tranquility creates a peaceful chilled holiday for all ages

As international interior designers we had travelled extensively seeking a suitable location for a holiday home. We longed to have a quiet retreat where we could install a pool and enjoy nature. We chanced upon Puglia about ten years ago, it ticked all the boxes. Hailing from Yorkshire, my partner fell in love with the 'dry stone' walls throughout the region. Yorkshire in the sun. As the 'foodie' I'd found heaven. Fresh and plentiful local produce, great daily markets, excellent local wines and of course, golden olive oil. There is much to enjoy here. The locals are delightful, we have made wonderful friends including our builder. We still speak!
We have loved creating this house that we share with family, friends and guests and hope that everyone will enjoy, share and cherish our dream.

Why they chose this property

Finally, a place in the sun. Puglia offers the lot; great people, rustic food, wonderful scenery and baroque 'wedding cake' architecture. We enjoy Italy's largest coastline with the both Adriatic and Ionian seas, one a 15 minute drive the other 40 minutes.
The house is set within 1.5 acres of land with ancient olive trees producing delicious golden oil. Our landscaping programme has recently added fruit trees and an almond orchard. We are peacefully located in the beautiful Valle d'Itria and overlook our 'own valley' beyond, yet the lovely historic town of Cisternino is very close. The town is very centrally placed, surrounded by beautiful historic towns and World Heritage protected sites. Access by car, is 40 minutes drive from Brindisi airport,50 minutes from Bari airport. We invite you to come, share and enjoy this loveliest part of Italy.

TRULLO
A 'trullo' one cone , or 'trulli ' more than one cone are strange buildings that are unique only to this part of Italy and this part of the world.
They are small, round, cone shaped , 'beehive' like buildings. whose white stone walls and stone laid tops come to a point at the roof , finished with an array of decorative finials often with religious or mystical symbols painted on. These strange buildings , like little igloos in the sun, were where a labourer could store and even bed down with his arable and livestock. They remain concentrated around Alberobello and the surrounding countryside and nearby towns. Their ancient origins remain unclear, but many historians say that they were constructed of un-mortared stone ( like the dry stone wall buildings,) so that they could be quickly demolished when the Spanish tax collectors came around, thereafter they could be quickly rebuilt. Farmers and local people still inhabit a great many, some that fell into disrepair have been turned in to holiday homes for rich Milanese and discerning Europeans. Some are connected into smart restaurants and even smarter boutique hotels.

What makes this property unique

The property is extremely well sited in the beautiful, picturesque heartland of Puglia, the Itrian valley.
We enjoy a peaceful rural setting, out of sight of neighbours, off a quiet road near the historic centre of Cisternino.
We have enjoyed interior designing and decorating this house from the ancient Trulli structures and a contemporary extension that enjoys far reaching valley views from the raised dining pergola.
Lots of terraces to enjoy, and a discreetly sited pool with its pergola and bathing terraces.
The nearby towns all offer something special. Gastronomy in Ceglie Messapica, chic shopping in Martina Franca, pretty Locorotando, Ostuni and baroque Lecce and the amazing 'hobbit central' beauty of the trulli capital, Alberobello. Lovely beaches and 'lidi' are a scenic drive away.

PUGLIA
Frederick II of Swabia , a Holy Roman Emperor, King of Germany and King of Sicily , is said to have declared :
' It is quite clear that the God of the Jews did not know Puglia , or he would not have given his people Palestine as the promised land '.

( Anna Del Conte & Val Archer )

CUCINA POVERA
The cooking of Southern Italy in general, and particularly in Puglia is often extremely simple but made with top quality ingredients , always local, and if it's not in season, you probably can't get it !
Durum wheat makes the fine Altamura bread ,and the famous orecchiette ( 'little ears' ) pasta. Fish and shellfish is found along the coast including lobster, oysters, sardines, mussels and sea urchin.
Vegetarians are well catered for. Many inland towns are renowned for their meat , lamb and kid and sausages like cartwheels and their grilled feasts. Cheeses are plentiful and the ricottas and creamy burrata ( mozzarella style) are particular to this area. Cakes, biscuits and preserves often made in the convents by nuns abound, and many sweets have the Arabic and Greek influences of past settlers.
