About the property

Cottage in Bigbury Village, near Kingsbridge, South Devon, England - Perfect Location, 1 Mile From Bigbury Golf Course And 2 Miles From Sandy Beach

Tinkers Cottage is a delightful 2 bedroom, stone and slate barn conversion cottage in Bigbury village, in an Area of Outstanding Beauty. Filled with home-from-home comforts for a stylish self-catering holiday. Bigbury beach is just under two miles away in the village of Bigbury-on-Sea.

The cottage is located in the South Hams area of South Devon. Plymouth lies to the west and Salcombe to the east. Nearby in St Anne's Chapel is Holywell Stores, the village shop and the Pickwick Inn (an Italian restaurant and bar).

The cottage sleeps 4 people comfortably but can be stretched to 6 people (preferably 2 adults and 4 children) by pulling out two truckle beds in the twin bedroom. The double bedroom has a 5ft double bed.

The sandy beach at Bigbury-on-Sea is less than 2 miles away, and there is plenty of opportunity locally for water sports enthusiasts to get their fix. Bigbury golf course is less than a mile away and welcomes visitors. We gladly welcome well behaved dogs and as the South Hams is also walking country, you are spoilt for choice whether you want to walk across the moors, follow the coastline or explore river estuaries.

About Megan Pearson

The Pearson family own Tinkers Cottage. Buying Tinkers Cottage was one of the best decisions we ever made, as we have had much use out of the cottage and many happy memories of our family spending several weeks every summer on Bigbury Beach. We lived abroad for a couple of years and the one thing we all missed the most was not spending as much time at Tinkers Cottage as usual.

Megan Pearson purchased this cottage in 2003

Cottage had everything in beautiful surroundings, long walk to local beaches.

  • 5 of 5

Lovely cottage in very peaceful countryside. Some beautiful walks through the fields down towards the estuary & up over the hill to Challaborough. Dogs enjoyed their walks although had to be careful with restrictions on the beaches. Local beach, shop & pub easily drivable or walkable if you have an hour or so.

Fantastic Bigbury!

  • 5 of 5

I had looked at many cottages before booking Tinkers and what a good choice I made. We were thrilled with the comfort and level of care that had gone into making this the perfect holiday home. Everything we could think of was there ready for use. The local pub the Royal Oak had great food and village shop was fine for everyday stuff.

Exploring the area was fun with so much to do. A 'must return' destination. Thank you.

Car: necessary

For beaches South Devon coast is hard to beat. Many of the beaches have awards for water and beach quality, and much of the coastline is under the protection of an AONB (area of outstanding natural beauty) or the National Trust. There are miles of safe award winning beaches for families, or you can try some of the popular watersports on offer locally. Bigbury-on-Sea hosts the fascinating Burgh Island with its 14th century pub, accessible only at low tide or by sea tractor at high tide.

Exeter airport is 43 miles away, about an hour in the car.

Plymouth airport is 19 miles away, about 45 minutes by car.

The cottage is situated in Bigbury village and the village shop and The Pickwick Inn in St. Annes Chapel is only a short walk away. Kingsbridge, a sizeable town and the capital of the South Hams region is 6 miles from the cottage. The closest beach is less than 2 miles away at Bigbury-on-Sea. The city of Plymouth is 19 miles away.

Further Details:

Bigbury-on-Sea located in an area of outstanding natural beauty, is ideal for family holidays. Dusted with sand and lapped by shallow waters, it offers safe fun for groups particularly if you’ve got children in tow. In addition, Bigbury beach is dotted with rock pools, so there’s plenty of creepy-crawly entertainment for budding marine biologists. While this beach is popular with families, there are a number of facilities and activities available if you’re seeking a bit more excitement on your holiday.

There’s a wide and varied selection of water sports available to visitors who prefer their holidays to feature a little adrenaline rush. If you want to try something different from the usual bodyboarding or surfing then windsurfing and kite-surfing are gaining popularity here, with hire facilities located right on the beach. To give you some peace of mind, there are lifeguards present at Bigbury beach during May to September and the beach also has a first-aid room. You can even take your dog onto Bigbury beach, although they are restricted to certain areas during the summer. Bigbury beach is one of the main attractions about holidaying in Bigbury.

Closeby is Modbury, an attractive and busy Georgian town, and is well worth a visit with its interesting local shops.

Kingsbridge, situated at the head of the Salcombe Estuary is the closest town that has a petrol station, banks and a chemist. Tesco and Morrisons supermarkets can also be found in Kingsbridge.

Salcombe, some 10 miles away is renowned for sailing, or enjoying a leisurely ferry trip. A walk through Salcombe with an ice-cream in hand is a lovely way to while away a relaxing afternoon.
