Welcome to The Courtyard Cheshire and our award winning, luxury self catering holiday cottages in the village of Helsby, Cheshire, which is located 2 miles from the ancient market town of Frodsham and 8 miles from the historic City of Chester. Our cottages are renovated Cheshire brick barns set around a beautifully preserved cobbled courtyard belonging to the Rake House, the old farmhouse where Jill and Roger Maher live with their 5 cats making it a perfect place to escape for romantic breaks, weekend breaks, short stays, longer breaks and for business as it is a haven for peace and tranquility. The cottages have many period features and beautiful oak beams providing lots of character and the thick Cheshire brick walls makes the cottages a haven of peace and tranquility ensuring the relaxing "getaway from it all feeling" but close to facilities and the coutryside offering the best of both worlds. Frodsham is mentioned in the Domesday Book and has a weekly market held every Thursday granted by Royal Charter granted by Charles 11 back in 1673. The location of The Courtyard Cheshire makes it easy to explore the North West of England and experience Chester, Cheshire, Liverpool, Manchester and North Wales.
Our location is just 20-25 minutes away from both Liverpool & Manchester Airports, a 2-3 minute walk from Helsby train station, 2-3 minutes walk from the local bus stops and a 5 minute drive to the M56 making The Courtyard easily accessible but the peaceful setting around a beautiful cobbled courtyard allows you to completely relax and unwind in a quiet oasis.
We are close to Chester Zoo, Chester Racecourse, Oulton Park, Cheshire Oaks and the largest Marks & Spencer store in the UK and the main areas of business as well as being close to stunning countryside through leafy Cheshire lanes and stunning drives through North Wales. The Courtyard Cheshire won the Best Self Catering in Cheshire Award 2010/2011 for Visit Cheshire and was a finalist for the North West Enjoy England awards.
Our self-catering, cottages sleep 2, 4 or 6 guests and the flexible arrival days allow you to plan a perfectbreak in Cheshire, ideal for leisure or business to suit you. Our accommodation is the ideal alternative for people staying away on business who want greater flexibility than is offered by a hotel room with the freedom to cater for yourself or use the local takeaways, pubs and restaurants in the area, of which there are many. We originally bought the cottages in our courtyard where we lived as we wanted to share our enjoyment of living in this location with other people and for them to experience staying in heritage barn converted properties. Our home, Rake House, has a lot of history attached to it and the convenience of being able to spend our time enjoying the outdoors with close proximity to shops, pubs and restaurants made it the perfect location for us.
The moment we stepped into The Loft we knew it was special. You can drive undnreneath and park up with the entrance door under cover too. U the stairs and The Loft is on split levels. Wlak into the living/dining room and brace yourself for the surprise of the vaulted ceiling! Hidden in the far corner is another staircase taking you off up to bed for comfy nigh't sleep - zzzzzz!

Just 10 minutes from Historic Chester, accessible by the train station just 2 minutes walk away, Cheshire Oaks Outlet Village (10 minutes), Chester Zoo (15 minutes) and borders of North Wales (10 minutes) for stunning scenic drives and walking.
The properties are in a quiet & secluded location with free onsite parking and free WiFi and have private outside space.

Our cottages make a great venue for classic car touring holidays and motorbikes with stunning scenic drives in Cheshire and North Wales. Morgan car hire is also available from nearby Oakmere Morgan at Northwich.
Thurstaston Beach is 24 miles away - part of the Wirral Coastline and runs between Thurstaston and Heswall along the foot of Thurstaston cliffs. The cliffs themselves provide a fascinating backdrop. Along Thurstaston beach you will find washed up bits of knarled drift wood, sea shells, and sand eroded rocks and pebbles. Formby Beach & pinewoods incorporates a nature reserve & is home of the rare, red squirrel, & is 40 minutes drive away. Other great beaches are on the nearby North Wales coast.

To secure a booking a deposit is required of 25% unless 8 weeks or less before arrival when full payment is due. Credit and debit cards accepted with a 2% fee for credit card payments.
We pride ourselves on our flexible arrival days - you can arrive on any day of the week although weekend breaks start on a Friday. Minimum stay is 2 nights and arrival is from 4.00pm and departure is by 10.00am except on Sundays 12 noon.

Prices are for guidance as we specialise in flexible short breaks from 2 nights. The rates shown as nightly are for Sunday to Friday breaks. You can arrive on any day of the week except for 2/3 night weekend breaks which start on a Friday. Please enquire separately for Weekend, Christmas & New Year breaks.

The Loft has its own undercover parking area for one vehicle with quirky teak bench perfect to sit and take in the views of the courtyard with a glass of wine! Number 1 has its own enclosed and private courtyard garden with parking directly outside for one vehicle.
