Nestling in the Tet valley where the Pyrenees meet the Mediterranean and minutes from the thriving local town of Ille Sur Tet, Mas Ausseil stands in 4 acres of grounds, with magnificent views of the Pyrenees and surrounding countryside. Beautifully renovated holiday home dating back to the 19th century providing a luxurious degree of modern comfort for families with children or a couples retreat. Fully reversible air conditioned throughout and with internet connection. 4 large and highly individual bedrooms, 2 double and 2 twin bedrooms, with luxurious bedlinen, 2 with en-suite bathrooms and 2 with a shared bathroom and all the extras you don't want to pack (hairdryers, towels, toiletries). High ceilings with exposed wooden beams. The large main family living and dining area incorporates an open plan kitchen with high quality kitchen equipment, a second, smaller living room with large natural stone fireplace. Outside, the 11 x 6 pool sits in a large tiled patio area with a large pergola providing much needed shade for day time al fresco dining and a summer kitchen and large bbq with sink and fridge providing great outdoor kitchen facilities, makes for the most relaxing and comfortable of holidays.

The most relaxing holiday in years..

After a wonderful fortnight, we found ourselves at Perpignan station, sitting on the TGV waiting to be whisked back to Paris and then on to Blighty and feeling slightly sad.. although up to the brim with great memories.

We are all still basking in both the glory of our stay, and a little of the after-sun warmth in our shoulders granted by the - it seems - highly reliable sunshine of the Languedoc.

Our whole family had the most splendid time.. children, nephews and nieces, brothers and sisters all appeared from time to time, heeding our open house invitation and to a person settled in within minutes enjoying, as we did, the comfort of the Mas and beauty of its setting. The house is charming and offers the most welcoming feeling. Unlike many rental properties which are often slightly stark and lacking in human touches, Mas Ausseil is personally and tastefully decorated. Obviously much loved by its owners, it has a warmth about it which makes one feel instantly at home. Sue and Steve have done an amazing job on the place, transforming it from an obvious ruin in a large open field into a charming private home with lovely gardens and a really super pool which we pretty much lived in.. stargazing from the water at night with the milky way so clear was a real treat!

The house is spacious enough to give every one the room they may want, without being too large. The garden is imaginatively planted and the adjoining field perfect for exercise, ruminative wandering or lively games of boules. We loved the outdoor kitchen, its barbeque and bar.. a super place to relax and chat about the day and plans for the next.

Bedrooms and beds are very comfortable, all with their own aircon if it's really too hot but the house, built by wise gallic ancestors, offers natural cool with a lovely bright aspect.

The immediate location and surrounding areas are beautiful. Nestled at the foot of the hills beneath the Pyreneean mountains with it's vigorous walks, fascinating towns, great eateries and historic sites it is also close enough to Ille sur Tet to scurry in for supplies every now and then.. Although we got out and about a lot, sightseeing, eating and exploring there is so much on offer that we didn't have time to fit in so we're itching to return to do some more.. and when we come back, we'll definitely stay at Mas Ausseil if they'll have us.

This property has the WOW factor.

We spent 7 amazing days at the Mas and would thoroughly recommend it. The property was great and felt like you had walked right into someone else’s home. It was extremely well equipped with absolutely everything you would ever need. Aircon in every room was essential and made for a very comfortable stay considering the heat outside. The location was peaceful in the middle of peach orchards but close enough to the town to pick up the essentials. We spent most of our time outside making the most of the pool, spectacular gardens, outdoor kitchen but most of all just lying back and taking in the view of the mountains and the summit of mount Canigou.

Sue was amazing and maintained regular contact, even purchasing a stair gate for us as we had a 2 year old in our group. Wifi was a bonus. The Mas really is a luxury.

We had a superb holiday and would like to thank Sue for all of her help and recommendations.

A Touch of Paradise

Everything about this villa was excellent.

The property was very well maintained and felt like 5 star “home from home” accommodation. The kitchen and all the house facilities were of very high standard.

The location was fabulous, right in the middle of a Peach orchard, with uninterrupted views of the Pyrenees Mountains. Close enough to the town for an early morning run to collect the croissants.

Our kids spent most of the time in the pool, allowing the adults time to relax.

Every other day, we tore ourselves away from the villa in order to see the amazing French countryside and villages. The following are well worth a visit - CastleNou, Thuir, we even managed a trip on a narrow gauge train up to VilleFrance. The beach we visited (Argeles North) was within easy reach for a day trip

The owner “Sue” was very easy to book with, she provided excellent preholiday instructions.

Fabulous Holiday

We enjoyed a fabulous two week stay at the Mas in Ille sur Tet. The accommodation is perfect, with all the mod cons you could wish for, including the much needed air con in every room. The Mas is situated close to the town but is situated in the middle of some peach orchards so it is very quiet and peaceful, and the views of the mountains are stunning. We spend many a day looking at the mountains whilst sun bathing by the lovely pool and the children enjoyed the toys left for them - from inflatables to board games and even an Xbox.

Sue was an excellent owner and made the booking system very easy and our deposit was on the door mat waiting when we returned to England - completely stress free! We also enjoyed having a change of bedding and a clean of the Mas mid week. Debs, who is English speaking, was fantastic and helped us plan some day visits as well as making the most of all the festivals taking place during the summer.

If you are looking for a gite in this area our family would wholeheartedly recommend this Mas.

Fabulous place to stay

What a fabulous to stay - we had a 2 week holiday here last year with family and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house is wonderful - clean, homely, spacious and comfortable - everything you would need and more. We ventured out a few days during our stay and we didn't have to drive for any longer than half an hour or so however,everybody was more than happy to just stay at the house (especially the kids as they loved the pool). I would highly recommend staying here and intend to go back.

Really lovely and relaxing

A beautiful house, clean and well looked after. The pool was nicer than it looked in the photos (and it looked nice in the photos). Located in a quiet spot but easy to walk to the town where we found some good places to eat. Convenient for the coast and the mountains. Lots of markets and places to visit , including great vineyards. Why wouldn't anyone want to stay here...?

Having had a number of family holidays with our children in this part of France we were drawn back to the area when we started to look for a holiday home. We viewed numerous properties and were finally shown what was a wrecked farmhouse, with no services that maybe had been lived in 100 years ago but was now used as a barn. However it was the fantastic location that sold it to us. The peach orchards were all in blossom, Canigou was snow covered and the sun shone in the deepest of blue skies. Although we bought the Mas in 2005, it took us 3 years to transform it into the amazing place it is now.

Coast/Beach:

The house is between 20 and 40 minutes comfortable drive from a sweep of coast from the Cathar castle-studded Corbieres past the etangs filled with oysters and flamingos, and along the Mediterranean coastline of the “Cote Vermeille”. Choose between long sandy stretches of beach such as Argeles, St Cyprien and Canet Plage or quieter, smaller beaches, such as Le Racou or St. Marie Plage, also pretty little coves where the Mountains fall into the sea as you approach Spain.

The Mas is in the Roussillon where the Pyrenees meet the Mediterranean. This little piece of paradise is blessed with spectacular scenery and a very favourable micro-climate. We have family who have driven to the ski slopes in the morning and then returned to sun bathe in the afternoon! We are surrounded by picturesque peach and nectarine orchards, vineyards, rocky coastal coves and snow covered mountains, the scenic fishing port of Collioure is a favourite of ours made famous by the Impressionist French painters including Dali, who’s museum is a hop across the border into Spain and who spent his last 40 years in the coastal town of Cadequez, also well worth a visit. Ceret houses the Museum of Modern Art founded by Picasso. Not to be missed is “le petit train jaune” (yellow train) which runs from Villefranche de Conflent up into the Pyrenees and joins the main Toulouse to Barcelona line, breathtaking scenery.

Booking Notes:
All bed linen and towels, including beach towels are included in the price. We also have a cot, bedlinen for the cot, baby listening device, highchair, stairgate and various other baby equipment, included in the price. A 25% deposit is requested at the time of booking and the balance together with a £300 security deposit is payable 8 weeks before your arrival. We would ask our guests to make sure the Mas is left in a clean and tidy manner otherwise an extra fee for cleaning will be deducted from the £300 security deposit.

Changeover Day:
We would prefer to avoid Saturday changeover but are otherwise flexible. We would respectfully ask that on the day of departure the Mas be vacated by 10:00am and for those arriving no earlier than 4:00pm.

Peace and tranquility, 15 minute walk to town, close to beaches and ski slopes. The view of Mount Canigou from our Mas never ceases to amaze us whether it be covered in snow in the winter months to the beautiful green in summer months. Surrounded on all sides by peach/nectarine and cherry trees it's the most fantastic sight in early spring when all the blossom is out!

  • Notes on accommodation: The house and pool, standing in its own grounds of 4 acres (once a peach orchard), are ideal for groups of friends or families with children, with full reversible air conditioning (cooling & heating) to every room, and is a wonderful opportunity to relax in the peace and quiet of this lovely rural area, yet only 15 minutes walk into Ille Sur Tet. The pool has a depth of 1.4m throughout, unheated but reaches a temperature of around 25-30 degrees in the summer months, surrounding the pool is a large gravelled area (wonderful for boules) raised flower beds, plus an array of oleanders, laurels, and olive trees. The sun-kissed Mediterranean beaches, cosmopolitan Perpignan, Spain and the Pyrenees mountains are all just a 30 minute drive away. No smoking, please, in the house and also no pets allowed. We have been told today (Feb 20th 2014) the satellite that provides UK TV is being re sited and that the signal to our area of France may well disappear. We intend to investigate. Outside: The large patio is designed in mediterranean style surrounded by a sizeable gravelled area with planted beds, olive trees, oleanders, laurels and palms. The alfresco eating area is shaded by the large pergola, with the summer kitchen with fridge, large bbq and sink close by. The rear of the Mas is South facing so we have sun on the pool all day. The private pool has Roman steps for children and non-swimmers, and has a depth of 1.4 metres throughout; there is also an outside shower, and is surrounded on all sides by laurel bushes and oleanders. Garden furniture includes garden tables, chairs, relaxer chairs, sun loungers. Beach equipment includes parasols, picnic bags, etc. In addition, there are tennis rackets, several sets of boules, tabletennis set, and various other bats and balls, inflatables and childrens toys. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels (incl beach towels), tea towels and all bed linen provided. The Mas will be cleaned ready for your arrival and after your departure. For 2014 an interim clean/change of bed linen will be incorporated and is included in the price. Other: 2nd living room with beautiful stone fireplace, 2 chairs and sofa, quality hifi with ipod connection,and large selection of CDs. Galleried landing with seating plus 2nd TV for use with X Box (games selection provided).
