About the property

Condo in City of Rome - Quiet Street Well Connected To Everything

The flat is in one of the old districts of Rome, with a friendly local atmosphere. Since this is where we live most of the time, the flat is full of books, CDs, DVDs, TV, DVD player, hi-fi and 24 hour wi-fi internet access. The building is beautiful, there's a porter, and the neighbours are friendly. There is a fully equipped kitchen, a living room with 2 sofas, one a bed if necessary, and a large bedroom. All three rooms have French windows.

About Evelyn Ford Robertson

I've lived in Italy for years. I taught English language at one of the Rome universities. My husband and I both speak excellent Italian and love things Italian.

Evelyn Ford Robertson purchased this apartment in 2007

Why Evelyn Ford Robertson chose Centro Storico

We bought this flat on our retirement, a pied à terre right in the centre of things, because now we also spend time in the country working in our garden.

The area is one of the old parts of Rome, well served by buses, near the main railway station, five minutes on foot to the Colosseum and the Roman forums in one direction, a few minutes in the other direction to the President's Palace, the Quirinale, and the Trevi Fountain. Ours is a quiet street in a lively district within sight of the Colosseum. There's an excellent new bakery, lots of bars, pizzerias and restaurants, arts and crafts shops, and a piazza with a fountain where people gather to chat, read the newspaper or just sit.

What makes this apartment unique

The flat is small, 60 sq. metres, with every space cleverly used to the maximum. It's on the first floor on to the courtyard of an interesting old family 'palazzo' where the ground floor is the garage. Our french windows look out on to plants. It is cool in summer without needing air conditioning. But it is also very cosy in winter since everyone favours a lot of central heating.

We have a friendly Sri Lankan porter who is a good handyman and understands English.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Dear Evie,

> We certainly enjoyed staying in your apartment, it was a haven of peace - you seem to be isolated from all noise. The location couldn't have been better. Nearly everywhere we wanted to visit was within easy walking distance. The apartment was nicely furnished, comfortable and very well equipped. We enjoyed your local coffee bar and the restaurant you recommended and we had many visits to the gelateria for the €2 cornets! We loved the lively atmosphere of the Monti district.

> We did the visit you suggested to the Domus Romane - we loved it and would highly recommend it to anyone.

> We don't mind you quoting us about the flat. We would love to come again sometime. I wonder if there is any time of the year when there are less tourists?!

> Best regards,

> Guy & Christine

Notes on accommodation: Ideal for two, it could sleep four, for example a family with children, but the sofa bed makes the living room cramped. Basic is 110 euros per day for 2 people, (100 in the summer months), all in, no extras. Use of sofabed is 10 euros extra per person per day. No smokers please. We have a dog and a cat so not suitable for those allergic to dogs and cats. Outside: The courtyard belongs to the building, not part of our property. Just nice for us to look out on to from our three french windows. Utility Room: Washing machine and dryer in a tiny utility room. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bedlinen and towels are supplied, and would be changed after one week. The flat is cleaned before and after guests, or once a week in agreement with guests and at no extra cost. Other: There is ample wardrobe space and five deep drawers in the corridor between the bedroom and the sitting room opposite the bathroom.

Comfortable flat, wonderful location

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay in Evie's flat, which was perfectly located for our first visit to Rome. Monti is just as special a neighborhood as it is said to me, and we walked all over Rome from there. There was plenty of room in the flat for me and my two young adult children. Evie was a great host. She was very responsive in her communication before we arrived, and was thoughtful enough to provide milk and coffee and tea, and other necessities we might need when we arrived. She gave us lots of great information about the neighborhood and places to eat.

Loved Rome!

  • 4 of 5

Thank you Evie for sharing your home with us. We enjoyed the neighborhood of lovely little shops and restaurants. We loved shopping at the fruititeria for our breakfast snacks and popping across the street for a gelato before heading in for the evening. Thank you for giving us all the details on the apartment and welcoming us with bread and wine. We enjoyed the lovely space - so nice to relax - we did listen to your music collection a bit. We loved the quiet and slept like logs. The location at the heart of Rome was incredible we were able to walk each day on our adventures. We were so close to the the Colosium, Trajan's Market, Forum, etc. Cab stand was just down the steps. It was great to have the train station just a 20 min walk away as we jumped the subway a couple of times and then caught the train out to Frascati for the wedding and then back to the airport. Thanks again - lovely flat - so comfortable.

Perfect / Parfait

  • 5 of 5

Nearest Train
1 Kilometres
Stazione Termini
Car: not necessary

The flat is 5 minutes on the bus from Termini, the main railway station. Up to an hour depending on traffic to drive to the airports, Ciampino and Fiumicino. Frequent coach transport to the airports is available from outside Termini Station. It is much better to use public transport in Rome. We are in the historic centre with a special permit for residents to enter by car or large fines for those who enter without permission!

Book online the Vatican, Colosseum, Villa Borghese. The Domus Romanae is a must.

Florence is one an a half hours away by fast train, Naples one hour. By car two hours approximately. The Rome underground system goes to the sea at Ostia, or to Anagnina, where buses connect to the towns of the Castelli Romani, the Pope's summer palace at Castel Gandolfo, Lake Albano etc.

Further Details:

Via Nazionale is one of the major shopping streets. Our district has an excellent new bakery, good greengrocers, many bars, pizzerias and restaurants. There are two supermarkets within walking distance. We leave you plenty of information on places and events in Rome.
