About this property

Brilliantly Positioned Townhouse Overlooking The Market Square, Historic Melrose

25 Market Square is located in the heart of the village with its patio and garden behind the house and easy parking only a few minutes walk from the front door. Enjoy looking out of the four, large picture windows in the reception rooms on the first floor, to the comings and goings in the Square below with its Market Cross, wonderful array of individual shops and amazing choice of eating and drinking places. You will have a grandstand view of the town’s many events, from festivals to pipe band competitions or just relax in comfort in the stylish sitting room or in the pretty garden behind the house.

This delightful property with its spacious kitchen/diner, large lounge with desk, sofas and a gas box fire for the colder seasons and 3 bedrooms provides a wonderful central position from which to enjoy walking, golfing, fishing, riding, exploring local history or simply watching the world go by in this loveliest of Border towns.

From the top bedroom windows, the views of the garden, Nut-wood, the floodlit abbey and one of the Eildon hills, transport you from the hustle and bustle of life in the Market Square.

You can wake up in bright, east facing bedrooms where the morning sunshine will hopefully be flooding in. The reception rooms can be bathed in sun well into the evening.
One of our favourite morning walks is past the abbey, down to the river Tweed and across the Chain Bridge, right or left along the river banks or towards Gattonside, returning past the famous Melrose rugby ground with the Eildon hills forming a magnificent backcloth. Children enjoy stopping at the Gibson park to play on the swings before returning to the house at the top of the High Street.

Different paths lead to the foot of the Eildons and the view of the Border countryside from the top is well worth the climb.
You are only minutes away from a wealth of restaurants and bar food with no driving home!
An hour’s journey by train leaving frequently from Tweedbank transports you to the heart of Edinburgh where can enjoy a full day visiting the sights without the hassle of having to park in the city.
There are so many historical sites to see throughout the Borders - the abbeys, Abbotsford home of Sir Walter Scott, to name but two and it’s worth looking in to the Trimontium exhibition opposite your front door. The Great Scottish Tapestry now has its permanent home in Galashiels and is well worth a visit. Thank you to our many guests that have left helpful ideas in our visitors book or online of their places to visit and suggestions of where to eat out. Hopefully you will enjoy a wonderful visit to Melrose, our Townhouse and the beautiful Scottish Borders.

Lovely stay in a quality apartment
The apartment was clean, spacious and well equipped. It is ideally located in the centre of Melrose with plenty of eating places, small shops and places of interest to explore and enjoy. We plan to return.

Elegant flat above a shop, with engaging living room views of the town square. All bedrooms facing the quieter garden side with views of the Abbey ruins and Eildon Hills.

Why they chose this property

25 Market Square has been in the family since 1860 and the shop below was our drapery business until the 1980's
At the moment it is a rather lovely gallery.

Melrose is too good a place to give up, so we decided that although we don't live there anymore, we would refurbish the house and take holiday lettings, allowing the chance for us to visit as often as time allows and give guests a taste of what the Scottish Borders and especially Melrose have to offer.
