About the property

Townhouse in Melrose, Scottish Borders, Scotland - This Delightful Property Is In A Prime Position With Its Own Garden That Catches The Sun All Day

Look out from the four large picture windows in the reception rooms on the first floor, to the comings and goings in the Square below with its Market Cross, wonderful array of individual shops and amazing choice of eating and drinking places. Enjoy a grandstand view of the town’s many events, from festivals to pipe band competitions or simply relax in comfort in the stylish sitting room or in the pretty garden behind the house.

This delightful property with its spacious kitchen/diner, comfortable lounge and 3 double bedrooms provides a wonderfully central position from which to enjoy walking, golfing, fishing, riding, exploring local history or simply watching the world go by in this loveliest of Border towns.

From the top bedroom windows, views of the garden with Nutwood behind , the floodlit abbey and one of the Eildon hills, transport you from the hustle and bustle of life in the Market Square.

The main rooms can be bathed in sun until the end of the day, yet you can wake up in bright, east facing bedrooms where, hopefully, the morning sunshine will be flooding in.

Our favourite morning walk is past the abbey, down to the river Tweed and across the Chain Bridge to Gattonside, returning past the famous Melrose rugby ground where the Eildon hills form a magnificent backcloth. Children will enjoy a stop in the Gibson park for a play on the swings etc before making your way back up the Main Street to the front door.

Different paths lead to the foot of the Eildons and the view of the Border countryside from the top is well worth the climb.

You are only a minute away from a wealth of restaurants or bar food so no driving home will be necessary.

Why The Owner chose Scottish Borders

25 Market Square has been in the family since 1860 and the shop below was our drapery business until the 1980's

At the moment it is a rather lovely gallery.

Melrose is too good a place to give up, so we decided that although we don't live there anymore, we would refurbish the house and take holiday lettings, allowing the chance for us to visit as often as time allows and give guests a taste of what the Scottish Borders and especially Melrose have to offer.

Excellent well stocked apartment. Plenty of space for the 5 of us (3 generations), lovely garden for sitting/playing. Good location, Melrose had everything needed on the doorstep.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the kind words. We are so glad that Melrose and the house came up to your expectations and especially the pokestops for your 10 year old! Best wishes, Katherine

Fantastique!

  • 5 of 5

Visiting Scotland was a wonderful experience. We mostly enjoyed very nice weather and there is so much to see and visit locally : whether you prefer the seaside or the moors, you will be satisfied. We got our fill of culture and history and we were lucky enough to experience the Edinburgh festival. So truly a place which will please you whatever you enjoy. The apartment is very sweet and ideally located with windows viewing the town plaza. If you do not have a car you are not isolated! It was great being able to simply sit and watch the village next to a fireplace. And there is a great restaurant just nearby where you can eat fish and chips (why else come to the United Kingdom?). It pleases the whole family. I will definitely recommend and will hopefully return an other time!

Fabulous Place

  • 5 of 5

Melrose is our favorite place in the Borders and 25 Market Square is a great place to stay. Drinking my morning coffee and watching the activity in the square was a favorite pastime. The townhouse is well equipped and very comfortable. Easy walk to the butcher, green grocer, and COOP. Looking at the Abbey each morning from the upper bedrooms was a plus. We will return.

Highly recommended

This property has everything (and the rest!) required for a relaxing week in one of the finest of the Borders' towns. It is furnished and equipped to a very high standard, and I would recommend it to anyone seeking a stress-free and relaxing week.

Melrose is perfectly placed for accessing the other abbey towns, walks along the Tweed and great wee shops.

Highly recommended!
