Villa in Seillans, Var, France - Tranquil Location On A Private Road

This four-bedroom family villa is in the beautiful medieval village of Seillans, nestled in forested mountains. Seillans is officially listed as one of the Plus Beaux Villages de France. Cobbled streets, bakeries, several lovely restaurants are all within easy walking distance from the house, which is situated in an old olive grove. There is a renowned cookery school in the village, Institut Gastronomique, which offers day courses for adults and children. A small supermarket, pharmacy and bar are also within walking distance.

No 3 Les Magnolias is a well loved family villa that has been with the owners for two generations. Detached and split-level, it stands in about a quarter of an acre of grounds with a free form pool, plenty of shade, mature gardens and beautiful views across the valley. Well equipped and furnished, the living area is arranged on the upper floor with sitting room, dining area and kitchen plus two bedrooms, a bathroom entrance hall and a cloakroom. Downstairs are two further double rooms, each with ensuite bathrooms. A utility/garage area houses all necessary amenities.

There is a covered terrace with lounge seating, then a dining table beneath a leafy wisteria covered pergola. Further seating areas, loungers and beanbags around the pool create plenty of space to rest, read or sunbathe. The house also has a table tennis table, boules and plenty of games and pool toys available to guests.

Our housekeeper will make the house welcoming and prepare all the bedrooms prior to arrival. She will change bed linen and clean the house the middle weekend for a two week booking.

A 15 minute drive will take you to the local and thriving market town of Fayence, 30 minutes to Lac St-Cassien for swimming and watersports and about 45 minutes to the Cote D'Azure. Inland you can enjoy Grasse, the Gorge du Verdon and the mountains. The house is 1 hour from Nice airport and 2 hours from Aix en Provence TGV terminal, both with easy car rental.

About the Owner

3 Les Magnolias is owned by 3 UK families, all living near Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, with children ranging in age from 5 to teens. One of the families has been holidaying at the property since it was built as it was previously owned by their parents/parents-in-law, so the area is well-known to, and well-loved by us all.

Having holidayed in this house for thirty years, we find that this large home has the perfect combination of peace and quiet, yet access on foot to a great and lively village with an abundance of amenities, and by car to some fantastic leisure pursuits in this lovely provencal area of the South of France.

Special interest holidays:

An hour to 80 minutes drive from the jaw-dropping Gorges de Verdons and the area surrounding Seillans has excellent hiking. Seillans has an active artist community, and an increasingly famous international music festival in August.


40 or so minutes' drive from the coast at St Raphael, 20 mins' to Lac St Cassien for freshwater swimming, kayaking, windsurfing.


Nice airport within an hour; 1.5 hours from Aix-en-Provence TGV station, Toulon airport.

15 minutes from the A8 Autoroute, about 20 miles north of St. Raphael, Frejus and Cannes (40 minute drive) and 30 miles (50 minutes) from Nice Airport. 3 miles east is Fayence, a pretty hill-top town with many shops and restaurants and a vibrant market, and then Grasse, of perfume fame (with lovely parfumeries to visit). The village is easily accessible by train and the overnight French motor-rail (to Avignon, St. Raphael, Cannes or Nice) or by air to Nice and Toulon.

Seillans is a small medieval village (reputedly one of the most beautiful in France), with narrow streets, a twelfth-century church & shady squares. It has the basic amenities including a chemist, bank, post office, newsagent, baker, a small supermarket, tea room, souvenir shops, several art galleries & craft shops. There is also a good hotel & a variety of restaurants in and outside the village. The area is abundant in vineyards & olive groves & attracts tourists, artists and walkers. The village offers three good tennis courts just 300 m below our house; there is a large gliding centre at Fayence, & horse-riding, cycling, golf, & hill & mountain-walking are popular in the area as well.

Provence & the French Riviera hardly need describing! The beautiful coastline, red rocky coves, sandy beaches & pine forests are renowned. Seaside villages are interspersed with famous resorts like St. Tropez & St. Raphael, & with sophisticated towns such as Antibes, Cannes & Nice which are excellent for shopping & cultural visits. Roman remains abound, especially in towns like Frejus. Behind the Mediterranean beaches are the pine-forested foothills, leading to the Alpes Maritimes with several ski resorts. Artists such as Renoir, Picasso, Cezanne & Matisse are well-represented in museums & galleries as well as churches - the Picasso Museum in Antibes or the Matisse Chapel in Vence to name but two. In summer, there are frequent outdoor concerts in the towns and villages. The beaches are all safe & sandy, busy in the height of the summer but not unbearable - allow about 50 minutes to reach a good, uncrowded beach in August. The beaches near Cannes are nearer (30-40 minutes) & are long and sandy but very popular, while west of St. Aygulf, there are many small pretty coves with rock & sand.   • The climate is excellent. Winters are mild (except in the mountains where it snows), spring is warm and the hills are covered in wild flowers and lavender, good for walkers, and summers are hot but not humid, averaging about 28-32 C in July and August. Autumn days are warm and become shorter. Outside, there is a covered terrace with comfortable seating and another terrace with a shaded dining table seating 10. There are beautiful views all round from the mountains to the village to the valley below, and plenty of parking space. Apart from the drive, most of the garden (which is on two levels like the house) is either terraced or grassed, with a few flower beds and lots of shady spots. The swimming pool is free-form and about 11 m x 5 m. It has a deep end and a shallow end and is surrounded by paving. It is available for use from the beginning of June to the end of September and is maintained by a local firm. French law has required all swimming pools to have security fencing or alarms. There is therefore both a pool alarm in the pool, and some fencing that can be erected around the pool at your discretion (it is kept in the garage) and there are also gates that can be locked. Utility Room: The large cellar on the ground-floor has a washing machine and dryer. Cleaning / Towels / Linen Cleaning once a week; linen provided. Plenty of books, games, cookery books, pool toys and table-tennis and boules.
