About Cath & Adrian Elliott

Hi, we are Cath and Adrian Elliott, we started life in the Vale of Evesham. But absolutely fell in love with Devon and moved down here about 13 years ago. We now live in Combe Martin in a remote location in a property with an acre of land. As we absolutely love growing and eating our own produce (especially the home produced eggs). Our two kids have recently left the fold and bought their own flats in the thriving street of Mill Street in Bideford (a place we recommend you visit).

Cath & Adrian Elliott purchased this cottage in 2011

Why Cath & Adrian Elliott chose North Devon

We purchased Allsorted because we had been looking to buy a holiday cottage for a while, but any previous properties just did not have the wow factor for us. But we immediately fell in love with Allsorted as soon as we went through the front door. Even mum gave it nine out of ten (you could have knocked me down with a feather) some other houses had scored as low as two with her. It is a quirky sort of property, but is has a positive, happy feel about it which seems immediately relaxing.

What makes this cottage unique

Due to the remoteness of our house in Combe Martin, we find it an absolute pleasure when we stay in Allsorted, everything is just so handy. Supermarkets and local shops, literally five minutes walk over the old bridge (no need to get the car out!!!). For several years if we fancied a take away it would be a major expedition, we could not believe our luck at Allsorted you can have an array of different take aways delivered to your front door.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for a delightful stay in your cottage. Everything was perfect!

We hope to return again one day.

Location

Car: not necessary

All our cottages are ideal for those seeking a "car free" holiday.

Coast/Beach:

The estuary is on your doorstep, with the nearest beach being Westward Ho! and Appledore being approx 10 minutes drive away, Saunton Sands and Croyde beaches approx 30 minutes drive, then the spectacular 3 mile long beach at Woolacombe is approx 45 minutes drive away, all very popular with surfers.

Travel:

Nearest airport is Exeter, being approx 1 1/2 hours drive away, and Bristol being the same distance, just north rather than south. The train service is also very good, with the nearest station at Barnstaple, only 20 mins drive away. The bus service is very good and frequent, or plenty of taxis are available if you prefer. Use of a car is handy, but car hire is plentiful if required.

Distances:

Nearest town is Bideford being a 5 minute walk away. For greater selection of the larger stores, Barnstaple, the regional centre is approx 20 minutes drive away. The village of Appledore is very popular with its narrow streets, galleries, and quaint shops, along with a very popular slipway access for those interested in boating.

Further Details:

Bideford is very fortunate with a number of traditional shops, butchers and greengrocers still remaining open, although there are 3 large supermarkets on the outside of town. Also several restaurants, cafes and fast food establishments. For keen gardeners, the delightful and intriguing gardens of RHS Rosemoor are only a short drive away. For cyclists, bikes can be hired locally (2 minutes walk from the cottage, at the end of the road!) for use on the tarka trail which is literally 1 minute from the cottage.

Wonderful in every way!

  • 5 of 5

A perfect location, fantastic views, really well equipped and great communication with the owners.

We stayed for two nights so that I could run the Bideford Half Marathon and it took a lot of the stress out of the experience of getting towns from the race. Plus we had a fabulous second night in Bideford post race!

We loved the cottage style and layout, the personal touches and how well equipped it all was.

Thank you so much!

Small property, good location

  • 2 of 5

Bideford is a good location for exploring North Devon. The property had everything we needed and the owner had taken care to ensure lots of information was available on the local area.

It was smaller than we thought for a family. The lounge is very dark in summer months with no light from the front window. The sofa is very old and uncomfortable - difficult to relax in the evening if you're staying in after kids have gone to bed. There were a lot of spiders! One crawled over my arm when I was sat on the sofa in the evening and they were in the skylight in the kitchen.

Overall I think this would be a great place for a couple who aren't necessarily staying in, in the evening, and doing the tarka trail etc. but a little cramped for a family.

Owner's Response: We are genuinely sorry that you didn't enjoy your holiday. Over the 6 years of trading we have welcomed many families to Allsorted, who have taken away great memories of happy holidays, as can be seen with numerous 5 star reviews.

Lovely homely cottage

  • 5 of 5

We've just come back from a fantastic few days away. The cottage is absolutely lovely and we really loved all the nice homely touches there. The beds were nice and big and very comfortable. It's close to so many places and attractions. There is a place literally just up the road to hire bikes and get onto the Tarka trail too. Would highly recommended! Thank you!

Lovely property, very clean and cosy.

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay in the cottage very much, there was nothing we required that wasn't available. A short walk from the town centre of Bideford and a only a ten minute drive to the nearest coastline. Plenty of beaches and attractions to visit locally and great surfing beaches of Saunton , Croyde and Woolacombe within a 30 minute drive.

Great character fisherman's cottage

  • 5 of 5

Spent a lovely 3 nights here on the hottest weekend of the summer so far. Great location for town (just across the bridge), cycle hire for the Tarka Trail (2 mins walk on the same road), car parking (town car park just a few minutes away), and to explore the fabulous beaches and clifftop walks (head north or west).

The setting was beautiful, with the gorgeous view of the river at the end of the garden, ideal for sitting out with a glass of wine until after 11pm on the warm evenings. The cottage was very cosy and comfortable, and all information and photos are as described and shown. Very clean and welcome milk, tea and coffee on arrival. Great response from Cath and Adrian beforehand. A lovely stay and would stay again.
