Situated Directly on Appledore Quayside. Overlooking the Torridge & Taw Estuary

Overview

Property

Updated: 02-Dec-2016
At the heart of village life, Halsbury on Appledore Quay has an envious waterside location. Close to all the expected local amenities.

The property comprises of a ground floor double bedroom, dining room overlooking the Quay and kitchen with integral garage for a small car. Parking is available on the Quay, and at the large public Quay car park, nearby. There is a small courtyard, with outside W.C. On the first floor there is the living room and a double bedroom, both overlooking the Quay, the river and with unspoilt views across to Instow. There is a further double bedroom with twin beds on the first floor. The bathroom has a bath, with shower and screen, toilet and razor point.

About the Owner

Halsbury has been in the Hedden family for four generations now and is used for our family holidays. We believe it is the ideal place to stay & enjoy the stunningly beautiful North Devon coast, whatever the time of year. In fact we have many people who return year after year.

Halsbury is situated on the Quay, with magnificent, uninterrupted views across the river from the upstairs living room. You'll never tire of watching the tide's ebb and flow & comings and goings on the water.

The house is superbly furnished & equipped with everything we think is needed for an easy self catering holiday. What's more, Halsbury is within a minute's walk of the shops, pubs and art galleries.

Halsbury is a wonderful house, full of history and ideal for all visitors.

What a totally awesome week. What an excellent property and home on the Quay at Appledore. We have spent many a holiday here and we will be booking again for next year. We had some wet mornings, but we are in England! Lovely property, very comfortable for six of us and the German Shepards. The only small gripe is there was no wifi but that is all. We also broke our crabbing record to net 94 in 2 hours :) The best property we have stayed in so far

Halsbury is a very good holiday cottage

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in Halsbury for a couple of years now we stay there twice a year and we have booked for next year. The cottage has one bedroom kitchen and dining room all on the ground upstairs is two very good bedrooms and a well maintained bathroom plus the best room of all in the lounge with views looking over the river and Instow on the other side of the river. The local area has shops pubs fish and chip shops a post office the bus stop is only a couple of minutes away that is why we leave our car in the garage at the cottage. The cottage is very well maintained and is always kept in a very good order and the house is always kept at very good standard of cleaning at all times. All in all I would rate the cottage at 10 out of 10.

What a place

  • 5 of 5

What can I say my family has been going to Appledore for nine years staying in other places but the last two years we have stayed in this property in March and October. The house has a garage if you have a car, we don't use the car as the bus stop is only a couple of minutes walk away. There is cafes ,pubs and food shops and a paper shop all within a couple of minutes walk away. The house has a lounge upstairs with a wonderful sea view also on this floor is two very good bedrooms one with a sea view and a bathroom. On the ground floor there is another double bedroom and a very well equipped kitchen. There is all you need in this house to have a wonderful holiday as I have already said we are going there twice again this year.

Halsbury

  • 5 of 5

Perfect rental property for us as all my family are into water sports especially kayaking and being able to store our kayaks in the garage was ideal.

The house itself was very comfortable, clean and had everything we needed. Great view from the lounge across to Instow. We all felt very at home there and are hoping to stay again this year.

We have holidayed in Appledore for the past 10 years and this property is one of our favourites.

Easy for the local shops, local amenities and transport.

The owner couldn't have been more helpful with any queries we may have had.

Wonderful Views!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lovely house in Appledore. Communication was quick and efficient. We were on our way to a wedding in Devon on the Saturday and the house made a very attractive and comfortable stay for our family to get together. The house is welcoming with a card from the owners and a bottle of wine! Everywhere is clean and beautifully furnished and well equiped. Plenty of places to eat nearby when we wanted to go out. We had a one year old with us and there is a cot, high chair and stair gate available. We managed to briefly get on the beach but unfortunately it did rain quite a lot of the time, but that did not put us off and we would hope to go again.

Location

From the Owner

Halsbury was originally bought by our great, great grandfather who ran a shop at the back of the house. Halsbury is now owned by my father, Mark who was born in Appledore. The house is in a perfect location for many reasons. Being on The Quay, the views and outlook are stunning. Across the water is a lovely sandy beach - ideal for children. A short walk along the quay, 'George Sands' is a great beach for dog walking at low tide. The 'Burrows' is another fantastic walking area, a short car ride away. Nearby Westward Ho! is superb for surfing, windsurfing and kite surfing. The world famous Croyde Bay is a 30min drive. For wet weather days, try the swimming pool at Northam (a couple of miles away) or try Atlantic Village with it's outlet shops and indoor & outdoor play areas for the kids.

Further Details:

Along the quaint, narrow streets and drangs of Appledore there are many fishermen’s cottages, some of which date back to the time of the Armada and it was from these cottages that many an Appledore sailor left to join Drake, Grenville and Raleigh in defence of England against the Spanish Fleet.

Appledore boasts a small range of craft shops, pubs, guesthouses and art galleries. Along the Quay you will find a small but well stocked deli, grocery store and Post Office. Behind the Quay are the newsagents and Tea rooms for light lunches and the obligatory cream tea. For excellent takeaway fish and chips try Michael’s in Meeting Street or for a sit down meal try Matts at the Royal Plaice in Market Street. Both within 200 yds of Halsbury and highly recommended

Facilities

From the Owner

The position of Halsbury couldn't be better. It is right at the heart of the action in Appledore. The ferry across the river to the lovely sandy beach of Instow is just along the Quay. There are pubs, restaurants, cafes and numerous art galleries within very easy walking distance. The narrow roads behind the Quay (mostly inaccessible by car & hence almost always traffic free and child friendly) offer you a chance to discover some the very old history of Appledore and pop into a range of shops. Take a walk over to West Appledore via Irsha Street to see the charming ex-fisherman's cottages. Stop at the Royal George or The Beaver (or both!) for refreshment whilst taking in the views across the water. Westward Ho! just down the road has great surf and is also suitable for children.
