Situated just 3 miles from the lovely seaside town of Dungarvan in the south east coast of Ireland. The property is cosy and is ideal for a getaway. It is just 300 yards from the beach, perfect for swimming or surfing and also for fishing. The Waterford Greenway [cycling and walking track] is just 200yards from the house. You can cycle / walk into Dungarvan town which is 3 miles away or just meander along the track , be careful this will take you all the way into Waterford city. On the way you will pass through tunnels and across viaducts build in the mid 1800.see it all on the website [www.deisegreenway.com] [www.visitwaterfordgreenway.com][www.waterfordgreenwaybikehire.com]
From the heritage town of Lismore, to the seaside resort of Ardmore, the harbour at Dungarvan and on to the Geopark on the Copper Coast, West Waterford has some of the most beautiful scenery in Ireland. The Comeragh Mountains range, with Mahon Falls is just a short drive away, is designated as an area of outstanding beauty, and is ideal for nature lovers and walkers with its beautiful waterfalls, woods and unspoilt lakes. Also the Nire Valley is very popular for hill walking. Just bring a picnic and enjoy nature at its best. For children there is a train from Kilmeadon to Waterford and back. www.wsvrailway.ie/ Great fun.
For golfers you have a beautiful 18 hole golf course across the road from the cottage. There are three course in Dungarvan, You can play all 3 for €69 - great value and wonderful courses. If you are over 50 you can get even better value on open days for seniors. Just 3/4 hour away are the wonderful golf courses of Waterford Castle and Faithlegg. Both of these courses have open days during the Summer.
My name is Marie. My husband Tony's home place is about 15min. drive away. Several of his siblings are living in the area. We have always loved the beaches here and have spent many summer days walking the beaches of Clonea, Stradbally, Bunmahon, Annestown and Boatstrand. We both play golf and are spoiled for choice with 3 golf courses within a few minutes from the cottage.
Marie O'Sullivan purchased this cottage in 2006
The reason we bought here is, it is a unique location, adjacent to golf courses, fishing and beaches. We love to walk in Colligan Woods or to stroll up to the Mahon Falls. We go for walks on Clonea beach nearly every day. Sometimes we cycle into Dungarvan using the cycle paths provided. They are so safe. We bring our grandchildren on the paths with us. The Deise Grreenway is now open so you can walk / Cycle to Waterford on the Greenway from Dungarvan . We go over to Durrow and go through the tunnel and onto the viaduct. The views from the Greenway are fabulous. Children love to cycle /walk down to the beach near the cottage and search for crabs etc in the pools on the rocks. The location of the cottage is great for travelling around the south of Ireland.
We play lots of golf. You can play all 3 three course in Dungarvan for €69 - great value and wonderful courses. If you are over 50 you can get even better value on open days for seniors. Waterford Castle golf course is Both of these are wonderful courses. We have a house close to the cottage. We really enjoy Dungarvan with its many eating spots, pubs with traditional music. You must not miss the pub in the Square named The Local if you love traditional music.
Sometimes when we feel energetic we cycle into Dungarvan town using the cycling paths. Really safe if you have children. The Deise greenway is now open . Great to cycle, jog or walk along.
16/06/11: Very nice place to explore the beauty of this coastline. Very well appointed cottage. Thanks to Tony and Marie for their hospitality and delicious scones. If you are a golfer the adjacent course is fantastic. Dave & Sue Eaglestone, England
16/07/11: What a wonderful holiday we had here at the cottage. Everything was perfect, the cottage was so comfortable had everything we needed and more. Tony & Marie were so welcoming and gave us lots of tips on places to visit also some lovely scones on arrival. We had the added bonus of sunshine so spent lots of days on the nearby beach and some lovely meals out in Dungarvan. We all had a great time. Dermot, Rachel, Patrick & Adam Dorman.
I cannot say enough nice things about our stay in Dungarvan and at the Thatched roof cottage. Marie & Tony were exceptional hosts - they even went out of their way to book tee times for our family of 4 at the Gold Coast Golf course. We only stayed for 4 nights, but they were the best 4 nights our of our 2 week driving tour through Ireland.
We hope to return to this area of Ireland again and when we do - we will rent the cottage for a full week....
we always wanted to stay in a thatched cottage. From the first inquiry email to our visit, Marie and Tony we "above and beyond". Other owners on Home Away could learn from them. Directions were perfect, and our stay was a highlight of our first visit to Ireland. Great location to day trip (Waterford, Lismore, etc) Cottage was perfect.. cozy.. but Marie and Tony were the best!! Who knew Dungarvan would have the best restaurants on our visit!
Just returned from a wonderful two week holiday in the cottage, from the moment we arrived we had a warm welcome from the owners Marie and Tony.
The cottage itself was lovely and cosy and well equipped, everything you need for your holiday, and just a few minutes gentle walk down to the beach, which was great for rock pooling, and exploring by young ones and older ones..
Lots to do in the area with plenty of restaurants and bars.
If you like golf there are courses to suit all ages and abilities including a local pitch and put.
I would like to recommend this cottage but I also want to keep it a secret as it is a hidden gem.
Wonderful cottage, very well appoined, very clean.Faultless really,Tony and Marie could not have been any more obliging.2 weeks of wonderful peace and quiet, even if you don't do golf, which is literally on your doorstep, there is so much sightseeing to do .If you are not feeling active just relax with a book in the grounds or take a short 5 minute walk onto the beach. Our first trip to Ireland and this short stay has us considering a permanent move over the water.
We stayed for 10 days have nothing but good memories, the kitchen was well equipped and organised .Cottage was very comfortable and modern. Our hosts were more than generous and the salt of the earth. The golf was all close and reasonable in price, hiked up to Mahon Falls and went to Punchestown to bet the horse's.Have visted Ireland
8-9 times and this was our Stanley Cup. Nancy and i golfed almost everyday as it is right out your front door.Wish Tony & Marie the best and hope to see them in the fullness of time. Douglas
We have just returned from Ireland having spent 5 days in this lovely thatched cottage. The cottage was comfortable, the views from the garden were spectacular, location for exploring was great and there were great biking trails. We lucked into some great weather and Marie and Tony went above and beyond. Definitely recommend.
