Luxury One Storey Villa With Private Pool In Small Hamlet Near To Jumilhac Le Gr

Overview

Property

Updated: 20-Jul-2016
Villa in Jumilhac le Grand, Dordogne, Aquitaine / Dordogne, France - Situated In Its Own Grounds With Terrace, Pool, Lawn, Fruit Trees, A Sandpit And Country Views.

Single storey and offering easy access, this lovely south facing villa enjoys marvellous views of the rolling Dordogne countryside. When the sun is too hot, the 20 sq/m chestnut floored and covered terrace provides a fantastic, shady place to eat and enjoy the views and garden to the front of the property. Alternatively to the rear of the house the private and secluded 8m x 4m swimming pool and poolside terrace offer full sunshine all day long. Evening barbecues can be enjoyed in the relaxing and romantic ambiance of the illuminated pool.

Home from home, Les Vignes du Bac promises you a relaxing, easy-living holiday in the heart of an authentic and unspoiled part of France.

Notes on accommodation:

At Les Vignes du Bac you will enjoy peace and quiet, space for yourselves both within and outside and closeness to nature.

For those less mobile, it is more or less wheel chair friendly - with only one step to negotiate here and there.

The pool is entirely private, surrounded by shrubs and honey suckle and a little up from the house.

Owner Stuart and Anchana and their daughter Jasmin stay in a small house on the edge of the property for part of the summer and will give you a warm welcome and help with anything you want to know.

Sunday is our changeover day - there will be a welcome pack of food and wine for you and we also ensure cooking and cleaning staples are there for you.

About the Owner

I work in England as a property manager and part-time riding instructor. I (and family and friends) love the countryside in France and particularly the Dordogne and Limousin for its beauty, peace and emptiness, the rustic farms and houses with their neat woodpiles, the quirky and friendly French country people.

great villa!

  • 5 of 5

Les Vignes du Bac is in a lovely quiet location yet close to local amenities. With 2 small children the gated pool which was really clean was a real bonus as was the big flat garden for outside play. The villa is over one floor and is very spacious and well equipped. We had a great holiday and the owners were on hand if required.

Location

From the Owner

The villa was purchased from friends, whose family home it was - they had moved to France many years ago and earned a living from doing up and selling ruined country properties. The area is relatively empty of people and the countryside is tranquil and beautiful. There are some lovely events and fairs and good food to be enjoyed.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Limoges at 80 Kilometres Nearest Barpub : Jumilhac le Grand at 3 Kilometres Nearest Train : Saint Yrieix at 16 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : Jumilhac le Grand at 3 Kilometres Nearest Beach : Near Bordeaux at 280 Kilometres Car: recommended

Special interest holidays:

Horse and pony riding lessons very near by.

Coast/Beach:

Although the ocean beach is two and a half hours drive away, there are several swimming lakes within easy distance including at Ladignac le Long and Boussiere Galant. At Rouffiac, a lake near Lanouaille and Angoisse, 15km from Jumilhac, there is canoeing and kayaking, Optimist dinghy sailing, windsurfing, climbing, paintball, waterskiing, forest acrobatics and camping.

Travel:

Limoges airport 50 mins (Ryanair from Stanstead and other British airports, Flybe from Southampton); Bergerac airport 90 mins; Bordeaux airport is a 2.5 hour drive. Car hire is available at all airports and there is plenty of parking space at the villa. Alternatively, the drive from ferry ports eg Calais, Boulogne is straightforward and takes about 8 hours.

Distances:

Jumilhac le Grand with a super boulangerie (baker) is 2km away. Saint Yrieix la Perche is a 10 minute drive - it has two large supermarkets - Casino and Intermarche (with a free Wifi cafe). 15 minutes in the other direction is Thiviers with 4 good size supermarkets. It is known as the Foie Gras capital and hosts an excellent market every Saturday morning. There are also night markets (where one can dine out for the evening) and a wine and antique fair during the summer months.

Further Details:

There are so many local activities in which one can participate - first just take a walk left out of the villa along the quiet country road and soak up the country views, birds and wild flowers. For specific activities - here is a list of some available locally, bearing in mind that the driving is relaxing and enjoyable along quiet country roads with lovely views: Tennis at Jumilhac and Thiviers; canoeing and walks at picturesque Brantome on the river Dronne (45 minute drive); for horse lovers, horse riding at Jumilhac and St Yrieix and visits to the stud at Pompadour (30 minute drive - making sure to stop at Segur le Chateau, one of the "Plus Beaux Villages de France" on the way); fishing - permits for local lakes available at Jumilhac; Rouffiac lake and activity centre (25 minute drive); further afield - skiing at Mont Dore near Clermont Ferrand (a 2 hour drive to skiing here in Winter and walking and sight-seeing in Summer stopping at a fantastic cheese centre shop on the way); Skate Board / Roller Park at Jumilhac; Caves: La Grotte de Villars; Gardens: Les Jardins du Manoir d’Eyrignac (open every day all day in Summer) and Les Jardins de Marqueyssac, both near Sarlat and lovely for a day out.

Restaurants: a big favourite for a really lovely meal is Les Voyageurs at La Coquille (15 min drive away) - it is gourmet local food and not too expensive if you stick to the very good choice menu du jour - sitting out on the beautiful terrace on a warm Summer evening is very special; there are many local restaurants in St Yrieix and other local towns mentioned in our directions and guide which we send to guests.
