This spacious ground floor accommodation allows our guests to enjoy their home from home comforts and when the mood takes them the opportunity for "Al Fresco" dining is available on the outside patio whilst you watch the sunset across the bay of Tirant. A visit to D1 bancalets is a truly memorable experience which has resulted in many of our guest returning year after year to this beautiful location which they agree is difficult to find anywhere else.

About the Owner

I have holidayed in the beautiful island of Menorca, with my family for the past 30 years. In 1998 i decided to purchase a holiday home on the island and after a search of almost 2 years, i found and fell in love with D1 Bancalets,Playas de Fornells.

Since 1998 i have decided to let other people enjoy this beautiful property, which has resulted in many of my guests, who are now friends, booking their return holiday's each year.

As a family we visit the apartment as many times as our busy lives will allow but when we are not there we are more than happy for the property to be opened up to our guests, as this property is not happy with it's windows and shutters closed to the summer sunshine.

We treat it as a home from home and we encourage our guests to do the same.

Great Holiday but set-up disappointing

We had a lovely holiday here and thoroughly relaxed. We didn't want the set-up to spoil our holiday however there were some areas that the owners may wish to address:

There were no obvious welcome/instruction notes within the property.

The gas for the oven was empty on the first night with no instructions on how to change it.

The plug in the lounge area was broken, so only one lamp in living room for duration of holiday.

The light outside didn't work.

Drying rack in kitchen broken.

Ironing board cover was filthy.

And whilst this is not something the owners can directly address it should be noted that the Spanish children were very noisy late at night.

Owner's Response: Dear Guest We have never the need for guest instruction upon arrival at the property as our agent always meets our guests upon their arrival but i will arrange for written instruction to be available in the future Regarding the outside light it was probably a bulb that had failed and a supply of spare bulbs is available within the apartment although our agent would have been happy to have sorted it had she had known The plug and the broken drainer was broken by the previous guests and we understood the they had been replaced so apologies if they had not A newironing board cover was fitted at the beginning of the season by me and I was not aware that it was dirty so it will be replaced immediately Sadly we do not have any control over the Spanish children but this rare problem will be reported to the president of the community Thank you for informing me of these issues including the gas bottle but the cooker and hob is being converted to all electric before next season Regards Ruth

Excellent apartment for family holiday

We loved staying at D1 Bancalets. It is a really simple, homely property perfect for a relaxed holiday with children. We really appreciated the extra touches like board games and a well equipped kitchen. The apartment opens onto the shared pool and when we arrived we worried that it might be noisy but it wasn't al all. The patio area was small but perfect for eating, sitting reading a book, or relaxing and looking at the amazingly beautiful views while the kids played within site in the pool and pretty gardens. Fornells beach was right on our doorstep and very nice, with just the right amount of restaurants, ice cream parlour and pedalo hire to suit the kids but not so much that it felt crowded or over commercial. The local restaurants are all an easy stroll away with very good food and excellent service, although clearly priced for tourists. I absolutely recommend this as a place to stay for families with small children and hope we get to come back one day.

Location - superb

Just returned from a weeks stay with 3 adults and 3 children.

Plenty space for all. The property location is probably the best position in the complex, right by the pool, with wonderful views and a short walk to the beach.

Helen, who sorted the keys etc was really helpful and communications with the owner beforehand were prompt and clear.

It was our first visit to menorca and I wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

There are some great places to eat a short walk away along with a supermarket.

location location location!

Second visit to Bancalets D1 and we were once again not disappointed! Fantastic location! Plenty to do either within walking distance or by car. Will be enquiring about a third stay with the owners shortly! Why look elsewhere when this apartment and location provides all that is required for a superb holiday! if there were six stars then this is what I would rate the experience as!

It was always my dream to purchase a holiday home on the island and after a search of almost 2 years, i found and fell in love with D1 Bancalets,Playas de Fornells. This beautiful family island is a far cry from the bars and clubs of the Costa's but it has twice as many beaches as Majorca and Ibiza combined and the locals say you could go to a different beach every day of the year. The pace of life is considerably slower than most of us are used to and within a day of arriving you will slip very comfortably into the relaxed Spanish lifestyle of Sun,Sand & Sangria. The location of the apartment is ideal for exploring the island and both the capital Mahon and the old capital Ciuetadella are a 20/25 minute drive away. To best explore the island a car is recommended but not essential.

Special interest holidays:

Menorca is well known for it's Windsurfing, Sailing and Walking holidays as well as sites of Archaeological interest ("Talots")


The Bay of Tirant has 2 beaches a mere 2 minutes walk away although the main beach is accessed via a boardwalk which would not be suitable for guests with mobility problems.This beach can be accessed by car but the walk down to the beach is difficult for a wheelchair or pushchair.

To experience the best beaches that Menorca has to offer then a car is essential although the buses go to some of the more popular beaches.

Our 2 favourite beaches are at Santa Tomas and Cala Galdana.


The main airport at Mahon is a 30 minutes car journey away.To fully experience the Island then a car is recommended altough no journey should take no more than 35/45 minutes.


The beautiful harbour at Fornells,a must on any island tour,is a 5 minute car journey and the most beautiful town on the island,Mercadal is a 15 minutes car journey from the apartment.Monte torro, the highest point on the island with it's clifftop monastery is a 15 minute drive.The capital Mahon and the old capital Ciuedadella are approx 35 minutes drive away.The world renowed Widsurfing cente at Ses Salinas and the diving centre at Fornells are a 5 minute drive away.

Further Details:

On the development of Playas de Fornells we have 5 bars/Restaurants including the renowned restaurant "Cafe Del Nord" a 5 minute walk away but the walk to these is a steep one although downhill on your return journey.The 2 main,well stocked supermarkets, are again a 5 minute walk away.Near the entrance to the community we have "Margas" which serves the best cooked meat on the island and on a balmy summers evening is a 20 minute stroll away,although you may wish to take a taxi back up the hill,or a 5 minute car journey away.

Fornells is 5 minutes drive away and contains a bank,shops,bars and restaurants and has the most beautiful harbour on the island.

This property has the outstanding front line location, right on the pool & kids paddling pool, with beautiful views of the bay of Tirant with 2 beaches a mere 2 minutes walk away. There are several bars, restaurants and supermarkets a 5 minute stroll away. The apartment is fully equipped and has recently been refurbished to a high standard to include all of the kitchen appliances you would expect together with a new fully fitted en suite bathroom and a new walk in shower in the 2nd Bathroom/Laundry room. For your entertainment there is a colour TV with free view channels, video player, DVD player and stereo system with a great selection of videos, DVDs and CDs. On a clear day the apartment has a fine view of the islands highest and most spectacular viewing point, Monte Torro, which is a 10 minute drive away, overlooking the most beautiful town on the island, Mercadal.

  • Outside: The community of Bancalets is private with tropical gardens and a private communal pool for residents use only.There are parking spaces by the entrance to the community.There is a large patio area around the pool with garden areas to put your sunloungers.The apartment has its own patio area with outdoor patio furniture including a table,chairs,sunloungers and drinks table.The private pool also has a seperate pool for our younger guests although caution and supervision is required around the larger and deeper pool as the apartment opens directly onto the main pool.
