About Gerald

I live in Sydney with my wife and son. We have been coming to Callala Beach since 1993 and now are almost locals. We try and get down at least once a month and so keep a close watch on the property and its maintenance.

Gerald purchased this cottage in 1994

Why Gerald chose South Coast

We stumbled on to Callala Beach after reading a magazine article. It took only the first visit for us to fall in love with the place. However, it took another year before we found Dolphincove - we named it after the dolphins that swim past the cottage most days. We love it for its quietness - truly a place to get off the grid. Ten people on this 5km beach is a crowd. Even in stormy weather, it is highly therapeutic to don a jacket and to go for a long stroll. When it is sunny, the water is crystal clear. Avoid getting frightened by your own shadow on the seabed like I did, that first weekend.

What makes this cottage unique

Enjoy going to sleep and waking up to the sound of waves. The night air is so clear that you get an amazing view of the Milky Way. It's smaller size means that it is highly affordable for couples or small families and still be on the beach. Most other properties in the area are much larger. Although Callala Beach itself is very quiet, you are within easy driving distance to many amenities in the area. For overseas rentals, we are looking at stocking the fridge with enough food to get you settled in. Please ask for information when booking. All rentals receive a complimentary bottle of wine on arrival.

Dolphincove - delightful...

  • 5 of 5

I have visited this street many hundreds of times in the past to stay with friends who owned a property on the other side of the street ; I recently had a minor back injury and wanted to escape to somewhere tranquil ; this is a heavenly place ; renovated just enough to create comfort without losing any of its bygone beachhouse feel - broad views, quiet, beach to yourself ; watched dolphins from off the beach & even saw the war ships over at Jervis bay doing manoevres in the distance ; best part is lying in bed listening to the sound of the waves on the beach ; two other people came along defraying the cost - all up this is great value for a wonderful place ; highly recommended for 1-4 people who want to

Perfect accommodation located right on idyllic beach

  • 5 of 5

Loved staying at Dolphincove. Perfect location right on magnificent beach, perfect for long walks, wonderful sunrises, sunsets and night sky. The cottage was thoughtfully equipped with essential bathroom and kitchen needs, great books, magazines and DVDs (although we were too busy enjoying the sunny days and beautiful night sky to take advantage of them). Comfy, clean, nicely furnished and well maintained. Already looking forward to our return visit to Dolphincove next year. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Relaxing and peacful

  • 5 of 5

Thank you for having us at Dolphincove. We had a delightful time and look forward to returning. We mastered the art of doing nothing whilst enjoying the peaceful wash of the waves and the warmth of the sunshine. A holiday cottage that reminds me of my childhood which is hard to find these days. Very comfortable but not glamourous and we love Dolphincove for this reason. A great escape.

Owner's Response: Thank you! We take great pleasure when guests enjoy the things we like about Dolphincove and also learn new things when people discover new things. Our aim with Dolphincove is to keep it low key and NOT turn it into a luxury home - just so that we can be care free and enable our children to experience the simple pleasures of life without care at an Australian beach house. At the same time, everything should work. So we depend on guest feedback to monitor how Dolphincove is going.
