About the Owner

I live in Sydney with my wife and son. We have been coming to Callala Beach since 1993 and now are almost locals. We try and get down at least once a month and so keep a close watch on the property and its maintenance.

Cosy cottage right on the beach!

  • 4 of 5

This is the perfect cottage if you're looking for a location right on the beach and a cosy beachy feeling. No extravagances, but just what we wanted for four people. The dolphins swam by several times a day. Away from the masses but a close drive to Husskison and Hyams Beach.

Gerald is so friendly, the most perfect host and even helped arrange shipping a left behind jacket to Sweden.

Can really recommend staying at Dolphin Cove!

Six steps to the beach access. Calming clear waters that soothe you to sleep. Dolphincove cottage has wonderful charm and beach style. We are just planning when we can go back again.

Quiet place with a stunning view

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at the cottage 5 nights. The place is really charming with beautiful view on the beach. Every morning we have seen dolphins right from the house. The cottage was clean and the equipment is on really high level. BBQ in the back is really handy and could be taken to the front. I have dealed with the owner few times. He was helpful and always responded quickly. I could only recommend the stay there to everybody.

As close as you can get to the beach on Jervis Bay!

  • 4 of 5

Believe what you read about Dolphin Cove. It is right on the beach of Jervis Bay. You can sit on the back deck and look out across the bay but enjoy the the peace and quiet of Callala Beach. It is amazing to have an affordable holiday rental with such a fabulous location and no crowds. Bring your beach towel, swimmers and sunscreen for the day and your favourite cold drink to enjoy as the day ends.

The house is small but very comfortable for three or four people. The bathroom is excellent with a top shower. An extra bathroom in the laundry is also handy. The kitchen is a bit awkward but you can put together most meals of your choice or you can eat out in Huskisson, just a short drive around the bay. We tried the 5 Little Pigs in Husky and we were very happy with our choice. We can also recommend the Hyams Beach cafe for a fabulous and indulgent morning tea or breakfast.

There is plenty to do each day with the beach and bush walks especially beneficial to soak up more of the local environment. Just as the advertising says, watch out for the dolphins. They are regular visitors who quite often put on a form of their own song and dance routine as they cruise around the bay.

I would definitely recommend Dolphin Cove as a destination of choice when on the south coast of New South Wales.

Beach front delight

  • 4 of 5

We booked this property because of its location and this didn't disappoint. The property was easy to find from the directions given and the arrangements for obtaining the key were simple and uncomplicated.

The property is accessed via a pathway which leads passed a double garage and although we didn't have access to this to park the car, which would have been nice given the daytime temperatures, it did contain the laundry facilities, which we were able to access. Between the garage and the house is a patch of garden and this is where the BBQ was located. On inspection of the BBQ we decided not to use it as it was in a poor state of cleanliness and this is one of the things I would recommend the owners look at.

The house itself comprised a combined living/dinning/kitchen area, two reasonable sized bedrooms, one with a double and one with twin beds, and a bathroom which looked like it had recently been re-vamped. although the property itself was clean and tidy with all the facilities you might need the kitchen area is old and would benefit from some upgrading. Additionally we did have a problem in this area with ants and any food left out was quickly contaminated. However once we realised the ant problem existed we took steps to ensure it wasn't a problem.

From the main living area a set of patio doors leads out onto a small decked area which is in need of a little tender loving care(TLC) and there is a large outside dinning table and chairs which is where we took most of our meals. From this table you look out over a lawn, passed a small area of sand dunes to one of the best beachesI have ever been too and a view that is indescribable in its beauty and majesty.

Dolphin Cove really lived up to its name as on the first morning, having woken early I was treated to the sight of a pod of Dolphins playing in the surf just 100 meters from where I stood, transfixed by the sight. At that point all the issues with this property became unimportant, the hot car, the BBQ, the ants, the 1960's kitchen, the deck, none of that mattered anymore, this is why we had come to Dolphin Cove, and it thrilled and excited us, we felt like kids who had been let loose in a candy store. and what a candy store.

So, despite its cosmetic failings and need for some TLC this property is A Little Gem and we would recommend it to anyone looking to stay in this area. Would we return? IN A HEART BEAT.

From the Owner

We stumbled on to Callala Beach after reading a magazine article. It took only the first visit for us to fall in love with the place. However, it took another year before we found Dolphincove - we named it after the dolphins that swim past the cottage most days. We love it for its quietness - truly a place to get off the grid. Ten people on this 5km beach is a crowd. Even in stormy weather, it is highly therapeutic to don a jacket and to go for a long stroll. When it is sunny, the water is crystal clear. Avoid getting frightened by your own shadow on the seabed like I did, that first weekend.

From the Owner

Enjoy going to sleep and waking up to the sound of waves. The night air is so clear that you get an amazing view of the Milky Way. It's smaller size means that it is highly affordable for couples or small families and still be on the beach. Most other properties in the area are much larger. Although Callala Beach itself is very quiet, you are within easy driving distance to many amenities in the area. For overseas rentals, we are looking at stocking the fridge with enough food to get you settled in. Please ask for information when booking. All rentals receive a complimentary bottle of wine on arrival.
