About Karen Capper

We are a professional couple with a young family. After years of holidaying abroad we decided to try holidaying closer to home and rediscover the great British holiday. We were not disappointed and have never looked back. This part of Cornwall offers everything we dream of in a holiday destination.

Why Karen Capper chose Kilkhampton

We instantly fell in love with The Granary at Bude. We love the fact that it is away from the real crowds yet has easy access to the most stunning beaches, amazing coastal walks, restaurants and seaside towns. There is something for everyone, any time of year, whatever the weather.

As parents of a young family we understand how important it is to have a place where you can all relax, yet have plenty to do on the doorstep.

Well located, charming, house with lovely views

  • 4 of 5

The property was lovely, set on a courtyard with access to a tennis court. Very peaceful as the property looks out over a golf course on one side. Location was great, short drive to centre of Bude and lots of lovely beaches nearby. We were 6 adults and a dog and the house fitted us comfortably. It’s self catered so we took the essentials as you’d expect to- dishwasher tablets, loo rolls etc. Weather wasn’t great so we didn’t have a chance to use the garden but it was a lovely looking space for relaxing in good weather. House was warm and cosy. We very much hope to go back again soon!

Great value for money. Cottage well supplied and good location

  • 4 of 5

Clean comfy and spacious. Hot water & shower a little confusing. Only suggestion; charge a little more and supply soap, pot scrubbers & loopaper, salt, pepper - the basics. Great place otherwise.

Very good with clean, fresh, accommodation,

  • 5 of 5

The Granary was a lovely place to stay overlooking the golf course and sea views. Everything was fresh, clean and well maintained. The owner provided scrabble, etc. and PlayStation games. The golf on site was really good value for money. Recommend the Tree Inn at Stratton, though book if you want to eat in the cosy bar and the Bay View Inn. We would definitely stay here again.

Fabulous holiday - booked for next year already!

  • 5 of 5

My partner & I wanted to book a few days away where we could play golf & tennis, walk, surf, sightsee & generally chill out.

The Granary at Ivyleaf near Bude is the perfect base to do all these and more.

The property is so cosy - home from home with 3 good sized bedrooms, very clean and wonderfully equipped - the coffee machine and music speaker system were excellent touches.

The patio garden at the back was bathed in sunshine in the afternoon and evening, a welcome retreat after a hard day's activities.

We played golf at Trevose, fantastic clubhouse, stunning views....but oh those pot bunkers!! We played tennis on site at Ivyleaf every afternoon on a well kept tarmac court. We visited various beaches all within a 10 minute drive and surfed/body boarded on some - all strictly life guarded. We walked across the cliffs, inland by the canals and around Bude itself with stops in coffee and tea shops to revive tired feet.

We ate out at Rosie's which is situated just off the beach in Bude - well worth a visit.....the milk shakes are out of this world!

We also had time to take in Newquay and Padstow - both packed with fascinating shops.....bacon rolls, Cornish pasties, fish & chips.....all taste even better in the fresh air.

I would thoroughly recommend this property to friends and relatives. The owner was most helpful with directions, property amenities and places of interest and things to do.......one holiday is not enough!!

Beaches and the Coastal Path.

The Granary gives easy access to a variety of stunning beaches and coastal walks, many of which boast Seaside Awards, with good marine wildlife, rockpools, open sands, surfing, and lifeguard patrols in the summer. This part of the coast is also known for being extremely dog friendly with the majority of beaches welcoming well controlled dogs and responsible owners even in the summer months.

Sandymouth beach - A gorgeous National Trust beach, which is free to park if you are a member. At low tide you can walk all the way to Bude, grab an icecream and then walk back along the headland. Lots of rock pools and fun for everyone. There is a small beach cafe, surf school and life guards. Cheap hire of wet suits and body boards - great fun.

Northcote beach - a National Trust beach with free parking. Stoney and rocky beach until the tide goes out revealing a huge expanse of sand and rock pools - usually no bathing at high tide. Very quiet. Lifeguards in high season.

Beaches in town are Crooklets and Summerlease. Fun beaches - well patrolled and lots to watch. There is a sea pool to bath in and lots of surf schools. Pop into the lifeboat station - they often have open days and are really friendly - kids can get in the boat, try on helmets and hear stories of famous people they rescued.

Widemouth beach - lots of people like this beach, it has lifeguards and is a serious surfers beach. The Bay View Inn is up from the beach on the roadside and guests often comment that this is good for food. Fridays is their locally caught fish and chip day, with their rather tasty golden ale batter.

Breakwater and Sea Lock - it's always fun to walk to the end of the breakwater, then back past the sea canal lock, passed some nice little shops, maybe a coffee at the Olive. Little paddle boats are for hire on the canal, and you can feed the ducks. There is often a little market.

Past Morrisons on the way into Bude there is a cycle hire centre, and there are some good tracks. You can sometimes park just outside the bike hire car park. Park here and take a walk up the canal - you eventually get to a nice cafe called The Weir (good food) with a play ground - push chair friendly most of the way. If you are into geocaching then this track will keep you busy. If you fancy a longer walk - around 7 miles in total, then as you head up the road towards the Weir there is a public footpath on the left. Take this path, then take the right fork. It brings you out near Bay View Inn at Widemouth. Then take the coastal path back to Bude.

Eden project - always amazing! Eat there - the food is great and reasonably priced. They also have sheltered parking specifically for dogs.

Padstow - it can be busy now, but still a nice little town to explore. Boat trips and of course fish and chips.

Crackington Haven - a lovely little inlet, quiet and unspoilt.

Tamar Lakes - canoeing and boat hire on little inland lakes.

Milky way - fun theme park for youngsters mostly indoors for a wet day. They do fun things with animals too.

Clovelly - a really unusual cobelled village. Park at the visitors centre to find out more about the village, or park up the road to avoid the parking fee! It's quite steep, but there are landrovers at the bottom to drive you back up if you dont fancy the walk. You can imagine this being a pirate cove.

Big Sheep - a theme park and opposite there is a total wipeout style assault course.

Archery, golf and Paintball at Ivyleaf - you can find out more details in the golf shop.

Pengenna pasties in Bude are lovely - grab one for lunchtimes and sit on the benches by the canal opposite the Olive.

There are great places to eat to suite a whole variety of tastes and budgets - Lifes a Beach is cafe by lunchtime and trendy fish bistro by night - stunning views.

Rosies at Crooklets does huge portions of pulled pork and chips for lunch, and in the evening becomes a wood fired pizza and kebab hut.

By the cycle hire there is a tapas bar, but can be a little bit hit and miss. And of course an array of pubs and takeaways!
