Why nicola drummond chose Ashbourne

After hectic careers in London we decided that instead of trying to escape to the hills every weekend and spend half our weekend on motorways, we would escape the rat race and live in area that we love. The Peak District is perfect for us - handy to get about and set in the heart of the Peak District National Park.We have restored our beautiful Vicarage and have now renovated the barn to provide wonderful holiday accommodation. We live in a great community with a great little village pub!

What makes this cottage unique

The Old Vicarage sits in the pretty stone village of Wetton nestled in the hills above the Dovedale and Manifold valleys so it is a great location for walking and cycling which we do plenty of with our border Collie dog Maisie!

Guestbook comments from the owner

"A wonderful introduction to the area. A lovely place to stay with every convenience and a beautiful garden. Thank you" Janet & Mick Burrow Sept 2011.

"The cottage exceeded our expectations, so comfortable with much attention to detail. We enjoyed superlatively comfy beds and pillows and slept like logs! We enjoyed our stay so much and really didn't want to go.We hope we can return one day soon and will recommend to friends. Thanks for everything. " Jenny - Brisbane Australia June 2011

"One of the very best cottages we've ever stayed in. Very well furnished, providing everything you could ever need. We will be back!" Jan & Mike Westley - Rochford Essex September 2011.

Lovely Property and Host

  • 5 of 5

It's a lovely, very comfortable property and Nicola was a very special host. She made us very welcome and was particularly helpful.

Wetton is a great place for walking and visiting Peak district sights.

Great Xmas treat

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely beautifully appointed cottage, the owner had made it a home from home even down to the very tasteful Christmas decorations.

Everything you need is in this cottage so it makes it a completely stressful visit. The views over the fantastically tended gardens are a delight to wake up too and it's so quiet a totally relaxing spot, I can't wait to book again for the summer months to get the use of the private patio and bbq sipping a beer or a glass of vino in a totally tranquil setting.

Exceeded expectations. Comfortable, decoration style and quality excellent.

Position of cottage good for both walking from the door and wider exploring in the car.

Friendly owner, and nice setting.

Excellent cottage and location

  • 5 of 5

We had a very enjoyable week at The Old Vicarage Cottage. Plenty to see and do in the surrounding area. The local pubs provided good quality evening meals at reasonable prices, and we ate out every night.

Thoroughly recommended.

Wetton: lovely cottage in lovely location

  • 5 of 5

Situated in the lovely village of Wetton between the Dove and Manifold Valleys, the Little Vicarage is excellent self catering accommodation for two couples or a family. The self contained home was added to the Victorian 'Old Vicarage' (excellent B&B there) and took bookings from 2009. It has absolutely everything you need for a comfortable stay plus a patio with garden table and chairs for barbecues. A well equipped kitchen with dishwasher, oven, ceramic hob, microwave, large fridge freezer: buy and cook excellent sausages from Bagshaws in Butterton. Pub next door should you not wish to try your culinary skills. Wetton is a peaceful village: 100 residents in the winter, up to 1000 in the summer. At home TV, CD player etc. to keep you entertained. Lovely walks around and near the village should you not wish to use your car: Alstonefield, Wetton Mill, Milldale for example. Stone walls and sheep in fields, hay making. Wonderful. Lovely walks within driving distance: Hartington, the Roaches, Lathkill Dale to name three. Fabulous base for sightseeing too. An almost endless list of country houses (NT and other), industrial and railway heritage as well as the lovely market town of Ashbourne for local gingerbread, and Bakewell for tarts. Adrenaline seekers prefer Alton Towers nearby, but that is not for us. We love Wetton and have stayed at the Old Vicarage many times. We enjoyed our time at the Little Vicarage equally as much. There are some people around the village who think we are local. Love it. Highly recommended.

Owner's Response: Andrew - wow what a review!! Thank so very much! You are definitely locals by now and it would not be the same without your annual trip to Wetton. It was strange not having you to myself in the B&B and not to be cooking you breakfast but im really glad you enjoyed The Little Vicarage Cottage as well. Thanks for taking the time - I do really appreciate it and im already looking forward to having you back in the B&B next March. Take care until then. Nicky

A home from home

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I loved this cottage. It had everything you could want; it was cosy and it was beautifully decorated and looked after. The quality was high throughout, and the kitchen had everything you might need for self-catering. There were lovely touches that made the place feel like home, and I would strongly recommend this place for a quiet retreat in the Peak District. You can take walks right from your door, and there is a pub at the end of the drive. A great place to hideaway or from which to explore the Peak District.
