Updated: 10-Oct-2016
Cottage Nr Bude, Kilkhampton, Cornwall, England, United Kingdom - Peaceful Location Within The Conservation Area At The Head Of The Coombe Valley 1.5 Miles From Beach

Spring cottage has been tastefully renovated to offer great comfort and a warm cosy feel. With a very large open plan kitchen leading to a glass roofed dining area the light is fantastic allowing sunset dining. The garden is a good size with 2 patio areas offering sun or shade(weather permitting) and a further grassed area with 2 apple trees. Kilkhampton has 2 great pubs and a funky pizza bar plus a well respected chippy. There is a park with a small skate park within the village and within a couple of miles you can find "the Bush" and "the Smithy" pub. Bude, with Leisure splash pool, bowling alley, extensive soft play for kids and floodlit tennis courts is 4 miles distant.

About the Owner

A little about ourselves..Myself (Silkie) and my partner (Simon) live in Bristol with our two small and very busy boys! I am a designer and run a boutique stationery company and Si is a musician and property renovator.

We try to stay at the cottage as a family as often as possible and find more and more wonderful things to do and explore in the area every time we visit. We think it is a very special place and hope you do to.

"Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous is all I can say, we had the most brilliant time, thanks so much!"

"Beautifully high spec cottage"

"Great coastal walks"

"Fantastic surfing"

"I just wanted to say thank you for the use of the cottage. We had the most incredible time! It is the perfect place for families, and Leo was calling it our "holiday HOME" after just a few days."

"It is rare to find such a thoughtfully presented holiday let. Everything one could wish for was there, from crisp linen to sharp knives. "

"The cottage itself was truly a home from home."

Dear Simon and Silkie,

We're so pleased to be in your delightful cottage for our holiday week. The 2 older girls play happily on the climbing camp, love their bunk beds and 'wish we lived here ALL the time'; and the baby is sleeping better than at home. My sons and daughter in law and I are relaxing in the beautiful surroundings, and loving all the comfort and style of your lovely cottage. It's perfect!

Thank you so much.

I hope you're having a good summer too.

Best wishes,

Gorgeous cottage - recommended!

  • 5 of 5

Quiet and pretty location in a village which has much to recommend it. Kilkhampton has two pubs - the New Inn is great for food and for a proper local pub experience. There is a decent fish & chip shop and a pizza bar. Plus a few steps down the lane to the Spar shop and Post office. It's a proper functioning village with the essentials you need for a stress free stay.

But the element of our holiday which made it unforgettable was Spring Cottage itself. A beautiful old cottage which has been sympathetically extended to provide a very special environment. Simon and Silkie have made a super job of the interior. The whole place oozes class and comfort with real attention to detail. Quality carpets, gorgeous soft furnishings, understated accessories and a real understanding of tradition with a 21st century take!

Plus squeaky clean bathrooms, crisp white linens and things like handwash, washing up liquid and laundry detergent included. Lovely garden with a decent BBQ and a wood burner in the front room. Our teenagers were mighty impressed with the super-fast wifi connection (better than London apparently.....).

Top tips: 'Life's a Beach' in Bude for a special meal; the walk from Crooklets to Sandymouth and back along the cliff tops; Pengenna pasty shop in Bude for the ULTIMATE Cornish pasties...

From the Owner

We have been coming to Cornwall for many years and really fell in love with Bude and the surrounding area. Every time we visit we discover more and more wonderful places. Si is a keen surfer as are our boys and the north Cornish coast offers some amazing surf spots and the beaches and countryside are truly beautiful. Spring cottage was bought in 2010, a 200 year old building in need of complete renovation. A year half later after much hard work and inspiration Spring cottage was reinvented!! Si really has done a wonderful job with the renovation and I have had a fab time choosing cushions!!

Activity and Interests

There is an enormous variety of beaches to be found in this area of North Cornwall. From the rugged beauty of Welcombe ,Duckpool and Trebarwith strand to the more tourist oriented Bude beaches or the 1950's caravan tea shop of Northcott (Maggie has been there 40 yrs!!) this area is a jewel waiting to be discovered.Forget the hundreds of tourists further South and be prepared to experience something altogether different.Duckpool and Sandymouth are 1.5 miles away.10 mins by car or a gorgeous walk !

Exeter airport is 50 miles away.Newquay airport is 40 miles away.To drive to Spring Cottage from the channel ports will take about 2 hours (Plymouth) coming over the gorgeous Dartmoor!

Bude is 5 miles approx,Holsworthy ,9 miles.Bideford and Barnstaple ,20 miles

Further Details:

Kilkhampton has a great butcher,a fantastic Pizza bar, great chippy plus a Spar and 2 good pubs.Bude is 4 miles distant and has a great selection of local shops plus larger supermarket chains (Sainsburys,Morrisons), banks and chemists etc. There is a small hospital in Stratton (3 miles) and a larger hospital in Holsworthy (9 miles).

Holsworthy holds a town market on a Tuesday and has the most funky veg shop in the square.

  • Notes on accommodation: Spring cottage is set in an enviable position having all of the amenities of the village at hand but the peace of the valley on its doorstep. With its proximity to a number of fine golf courses and stunning beaches it cant fail to please. The gorgeous seaside town of Bude is 4 miles distant and further family attractions such as "The Milky Way", "Crealy adventure park" and "The Big Sheep" are all within easy reach. We are happy to accept pets ,but not during peak summer season. Outside: The Cottage has a generous garden with 2 linked patios providing lounging or seated dining in either sun or shade as required. There is a gated garden wall separating the area with the apple trees to allow increased safety for toddlers if need be. There is a large climbing frame/slider in the main garden with bark chipping's for safety. Utility Room: washing machine, drying frame, ironing board and iron. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Quality cotton Linen and towels are supplied weekly (not beach towels) as is the cleaning of the property.Further supplies or cleaning upon request. Other: The lounge is large enough to allow two areas to in which to socialise and the kitchen diner is wonderful to rattle around in and to chat with guests whilst cooking.
