About the property

Private Villa with 11 metre pool set in 1 acre of mature gardens

The detached villa with private pool is located on the edge of Mombaldone, a small village in the heart of the Piedmont region. The four-bedroomed property comfortably accommodates eight people and is ideally suited to extended families or two families holidaying together. There's everything on site for a self-contained holiday, but the location of the villa means that guests are on the doorstep of the world-famous vineyards of the Piedmont region. The villa itself was fully renovated in 2010, with an emphasis on retaining the traditional qualities and comforts of the property, whilst being equipped with all modern conveniences. The well-proportioned rooms with marble floors and high ceilings emphasise the spacious interior and give a light, airy feel to the property. The large, fully enclosed private gardens have a luxurious 11 metre swimming pool in the front lawns, surrounded by fruit trees and vines, with numerous areas for relaxing and dining in the sun or shade.

Location: This property is located on the edge of the small village of Mombaldone, in the Piedmont region of North West Italy. The villa is easily accessible by road or rail, just half a kilometre from the main Acqui Terme –Savona Road and has a rail station in the village. Visitors can enjoy the countryside, lakes and coast and are in easy reach of the main cities of the region, i.e. Milan, Turin and Genoa. Although Piedmont is world renowned by food and wine connoisseurs it still remains relatively undiscovered by mainstream tourists.

The villa’s location, with the Italian Riviera one hour to the south, and skiing one hour to the west, provides a climate of contrasting seasons, with hot Mediterranean summers and snow filled alpine winters. Springtime brings mild days, when the blossoms and fruit trees burst into bloom, whilst autumn provides a blaze of colour and signals the picking of the grapes from the numerous vineyards across the region.

Mombaldone: Mombaldone itself is the only village in the Asti region that is still surrounded by its original walls. The entrance to the ancient village is through a Gothic-style entrance door to the shelter, which has been preserved in its original medieval form. The most important monuments converge on Piazza Umberto at the centre of the village and although the 13th century castle is now little more than a ruin ravaged by time, it is also well worth a visit.

In the village there is a post office, shop, rail station and local bar. The local shop is open every day and supplies all the essentials required for a self-catering holiday including freshly baked bread. The train is a useful and practical way to visit the beautiful, small villages along Italian Riviera; tickets can be purchased from the post office. A 5 minute drive or a 30 minute walk takes you to the village of Montechiaro D’Acqui, where there is a bank, ATM, chemist, butcher, baker, garage, bars, and a great pizza restaurant.

Local Attractions: Only 20 minutes’ drive from the villa is the spa town of Acqui Terme. It is steeped in history, yet has designer shops, boutiques, fabulous restaurants and great cafés as well as a hypermarket. The thermal water comes to the surface in Piazza Bollente, in the centre of town. People come from miles around to bottle the sulphuric scented water from the fountain, heated naturally to 75°C, due to its health giving properties.Acqui Terme also boasts one of the largest outdoor swimming pools in Europe consisting of 3 linked pools, with areas for the very young, and for those that are very brave with 10 metre diving boards!

The area is famed around the world for its selection of fine wines. These include Barolo, Barbaresco, Barbera, Dolcetto and Moscato D'Asti. Many wine tours take place throughout the region.

Local cuisine is renown throughout Italy, the precious white truffles of this region are a special delicacy, with special truffle markets being held in Alba during Autumn.

Guestbook comments from the owner

First of all many thanks for offering us the opportunity to stay in Villa Mombaldone. The location, quietness, charm, the house itself (including the equipment which makes it an ideal place for teenagers) and swimming pool are some of the assets which makes it a place we never experienced before. The tip for contacting Giuseppe for bike rental was very adequate; he could offer exactly what I needed. We will rate Villa Mombaldone the maximum score of 5!

A beautifull, well equiped villa

  • 5 of 5

The villa was a great hit. We enjoyed our two weeks stay enormously.

The kitchen was well equiped, the bedrooms comfortable and cool (even in this tropical heat), the bathrooms clean and functionable. The garden was well maintained with a great swimming pool and a nice patio for 'al fresco' dining.

The villa is well located with a lot of interesting villages and cities in easy reach. Next to the well known sites such as Astia and Alba, we can recommend a visit to Savona and to the seasiide resort of Noli.

We certainly will recommend this property to our friends and family.

Great villa in a beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

Our family of six spend a wonderful week at the end of May in this great villa in Mombaldone. The weather was fantastic so the kids jumped into the pool right when we arrived after a spending the day on the road. We could have easily spend our entire week at the property as it is just perfect.

I have seen many holiday homes but none compares to this one: spacious rooms, beautifully decorated, clean; a fantastic garden with all the privacy you want and on top the house is equipped with many things you would put in your own home: e.g. plenty of towels, a good size TV with a nice selection of DVDs (we didn't watch any as there were too many other great things to do), bicylces etc. Could not ask for more. One last thing: a welcome package in the fridge with milk, pasta, butter, and even some wine. Equally generous and thoughtful. I can only say thank you, Carole and Alan.

Beautiful villa

  • 3 of 5

This is a beautiful villa in a lovely part of Piedmonte. It is well furnished and secure in a picturesque setting. Not far to drive to Acqui Terme and other small villages but Mombaldone and Roccaverona are definitely worth a visit.

Ordinarily I would have given it a 5 star rating but we were there during the end of April with very cool temperatures and the house does not have central heating. There are pellet stoves in the two hallways and in the living room to help with heating but they don't cover the bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen or dining room. Our advice would be to visit during the summer months.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review Marilyn. We were pleased you enjoyed the villa and surrounding area. It was so unfortunate that you experienced such an unseasonal drop of temperature during your stay especially as the weather had been so good just the week before. We have found leaving the doors open allows the heat from the 3 stuffas to radiate throughout the house. We do hope it didn't spoil your stay.

Lovely home from home

  • 5 of 5

Myself and my boyfriends stay here was brilliant, the villa is in a beautiful location with amazing views! The villa was lovely, all the essentials were kindly there when we arrived which was a great help after travelling. The pool is great and has seats to relax around and enjoy the gorgeous garden. There are some brilliant restaurants nearby which are all in the really helpful book put together by Carole, which is full of nearby things to do and help with appliances etc around the house. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again!

A beautiful villa in stunning countryside

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay with our two sons and their girlfriends. The villa is a real home from home with everything you could wish for. The kitchen has every item you can think of and the welcome pack was very useful. My sons really enjoyed the selection of films and X Box and we all had great fun in the pool and the wonderful outside area. We would definitely recommend this villa for a peaceful and relaxing get away.

Villa Mombaldone

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely week at Villa Mombaldone, the villa is situated in a very quiet location & the gardens were very well kept.

The kids loved the pool (although it was a bit cold at times).

The villa itself was clean, had big airy rooms & we loved the welcome pack that you did us with all the essentials in.

You thought of everything & catered for everybody's needs.

We loved having the bbq's & sitting outside, especially at night when it was nice & cool.

Theres plenty of nice quality restaurants to visit & they serve fresh, authentic Italian menus.

The supermarkets were good & had everything you needed in them.

It was a home from home & we would love to have a return visit.
