- Grocery Shopping service ( you tell us what you want and we will get it ready for your arrival ) payable on arrival plus 10 euro charge.

This is our lovingly renovated 16th century house. It is full of French character and, history with original features such as the large high ceilinged rooms, wide sweeping oak staircase, exposed beams and original fireplaces, yet has all the modern comforts you would expect in a well-equipped home. Over three floors, the main house consists of a large hall, kitchen / eating area, sitting / dining room, 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.

About the Owner

Garry is an auto-entrepreneur and Annabelle is a fully trained primary school teacher, and has had experience of teaching both in the UK and in Spain.

Their daughter, Georgia is 16 years old and is currently studying at Lycee Gues de Balzac, Angouleme.

The family have two dogs a cat, and 4 chickens, that are all very friendly and love to receive a little attention.

Although we don't live on site, we are not far away to assist with making your holiday a fabulous experience in any way we can.

The whole family enjoy spending time at the local lakes during the summer, walking their two adorable and very friendly dogs and bike riding.

I shall start writing here. There’s insufficient room in the comments column to say all the wonderful things about the place.

I have never stayed in a place as truly magnificent as this one. I loved the house – a real gem! I loved Rochechouart and want to come back.

My days started early and make sure you get up & watch the sun rise from the veranda. An early start provided a good excuse to chill in the garden and listen to the children play happily.

Very friendly little town, very good foos at the Hotel de France, and had a wonderful lunch at the Roc du Boeuf, just a 10 minute walk from the house.

We love the beautiful historic town of Rochechouart because it is perfectly situated on the Charente/Limousin/ Dordogne border, very close to all local amenities. There are some beautiful local lakes with superb beaches, bike and horse riding all within easy reach of this property. For the more active guests the property is a short drive away from two excellent golf courses. There are super bars and restaurants a short stroll away, as well as an impressive chateau to explore. There really is something for everyone here. The area is easily accessible with Limoges airport less than a 30 minutes drive away. There are plenty of local markets to explore selling good quality local produce, many summer festivals and a little further afield, cognac tours in the neighbouring Charente.

Coast/Beach:

There are plenty of super lakes with beaches to enjoy 10 minutes from the property. These include Videix (10 minutes drive away); St Mathieu (15 minutes drive away); Etagnac (10 minutes drive away) and Geurlie Plage (15 minutes drive away) All the lakes offer good facilities including swimming, water sports, sailing and play equipment for children.

Travel:

The nearest airport to the property is Limoges airport, 30 minutes drive away and receives flights Via Ryan Air and FlyBe from the follwing airports:

Liverpool, Stansted, Bristol, Nottingham, Leeds, Newcastle & Southampton

There is also an airport in Poitiers (1 hr 50 minutes away) with flights from Stansted.

For those needing car hire, there is Hertz at Limoges airport.

Distances to the property for those travelling by car are as follows: Calais 444 miles/711 kms; Dieppe 368 miles.

Distances:

The property is located with the town of Rochechouart. It is in close proximity to the Charente and Dordogne regions, with plenty of pretty towns and villages to explore. It is equally distant between the large cities of Angouleme and Limoges. It is approximately 1 hour 20 minutes from the Cognac producing regions, offering tours and cognac tasting.

Further Details:

Rochechouart offers a good choice of restaurants and bars, located a short stroll from the property. There are two local supermarkets 5 minutes drive away, and larger hypermarkets 10 minutes drive away. Rochechouart has 3 bakeries, several banks, a post office, hairdressers, butchers and cheese shop.

Saint Junien (10 minutes drive away) has a larger selection of shops and a large indoor and outdoor swimming pool and play areas.

There are plenty of activities available close to the property including cycling, horse riding, paintballing, sailing, karting and chateaux and markets to explore. There is also a large adventure park where you can traverse the trees on aerial ropeways and zipwires, or play in the secure park.

Why not enjoy a gentle cycle on the Velo-rail, a bicycle mounted on rails through some beautiful countryside, or kayaking on the Vienne.

There is also a brilliant Thermal Baths site to explore 5 minutes away or the thought provoking Oradour sur Glane.

A non-refundable deposit of 25% is required within 5 days of the booking being confirmed by us, with the balance of rent to be paid eight weeks prior to arrival. Should you cancel within 8 weeks of arrival date having paid the full amount, then a 75% cancellation fee applies of the full amount. Security Deposit is £300 and is to be paid before arrival.

Changeover Day:
Saturday is change over day. Guests need to vacate the property by 11.00 in the morning and can arrive any time after 17.00 in the afternoon to allow for cleaning.

The property boosts a wealth of original features including exposed beams and a magnificent oak staircase. Access to the exclusive and private garden and pool is via a double sweeping stone staircase, leading off a 24 metre long veranda. The perfect place to enjoy a sun-downer or two! The garden is large enough for a game of football, offers a trampoline, badminton net and swings, in addition to sun loungers for those just wanting to laze by the pool. If you are booking the house and the apartment, then they each have their own seperate access, but can be opened up on the bedroom floor, to make the house and apartment as one, ideal for large parties, wanting to stay together, and can be seperated, to be self contained if not. We offer a welcome package to all our guests: Ingredients supplied for an evening meal on your arrival and Continental breakfast for your first morning; Beach/pool towels for use during your stay. Babysitting / Childminding available upon request for an hourly charge; Shopping service – to be paid for in euros on arrival, for a 12 euro charge. There is private parking at the very bottom of the garden but the on street parking at the front of the house is closer and their is plenty of it all year round

  • Notes on accommodation: This a wonderfully spacious and imposing 16th century house, which retains its history with original features such as the large high ceilinged rooms, wide sweeping oak staircase, exposed beams and original fireplaces. Its fantastic central location in the middle of the beautiful town on Rochechouart will give you the opportunity to explore one of the most beautiful parts of central France. You will be able to take a gentle stroll through the cobbled streets to buy your fresh produce from the local shops, or stop for a quiet drink at one of the shady cafes under the lime trees. The local Chateau of Rochechouart is just a few minutes' walk away, as is the beautiful church with is spiral steeple. Owners Garry and Annabelle, with their daughter Georgia and their two very friendly dogs, live off site (but not far away if you need us) and provide a warm welcome to visitors of all ages. Annabelle, a former primary school teacher, is on hand to provide you with some babysitting. Outside: The private garden is arranged over three terraces and is accessed via a double stone staircase. The gardens are mainly laid to lawn with flower borders and teal trees. The first terrace is flat with BBQ and garden table, chairs, swings and feature well. The second terrace offers sun and shade and offers an above ground oval swimming pool (7m x 3.5m) The bottom terrace has a trampoline, and swings and other outdoor activities. There is also a ping pong table with plentry of bats and balls. Off street parking is available if required. Utility Room: Under the main staircase is a small utility area which houses the washing machine and dishwasher. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed Linen and Towels are provided and changed weekly. Cleaning is carried out weekly on a Friday
