About Mr B Dodds

Having holidayed on the island for many years as our children have grown up i find it the most relaxing and tranquil place. I find the island very unspoiled and so wonderful for families. The people are very friendly and I feel very safe here. Owning a property here and having close friends who live on the island makes this a special location for me and my family.

Location

Coast/Beach:

The villa is very close to the front line with sea views. Binibeca beach is 10min walk away but the private path next to the property takes you to a rocky cove which is a popular location for the locals at weekends for relaxing, diving and fishing.

Travel:

Mahon airport is 10-15minutes from the villa. Although a car is recommended it is not essential as their are plenty of taxis. The villa is in an ideal spot for the local bus service to Mahon town and also the 'novelty' train that takes you to Punta Prima is very close by and available in the summer months.

Distances:

Binibeca Vell village is a 10 minute walk, it is a beautiful typical Spanish fishing village with small windy streets and white washed buildings. Very picturesque.

Further Details:

Although Menorca is a quiet location, you can hire a car or take a cab or bus to visit the cheese and leather factories, aqua park, one of the many local markets around the island, S'Albufera nature reserve, El Toro church, Cova d'en Xoroi (this is a night club built into the rocks and an excellent trip in the day for the views, or the evening for the dancing. During your visit to Menorca you may find a fiesta is taking place with Spanish horses and dancing.

The villa is lovely from the outside the pool area really nice comfortable sunbeds. I think that the inside on my opinion could do with a little updating, the main bedroom the patio doors are very hard to open the double glazing you cant see out of the windows as the seals are gone and the en suite is a little tired, but that is a minor issue as overall everything is there that you need for a self catering holiday and the owner Brian is always willing to help.

Perfect Location (especially if you don't want to hire a car!)

  • 4 of 5

We spent a fortnight at Villa Elbarco from end July 2017 and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The villa itself is clean, comfortable and cool at night, thanks to the air conditioning in the bedrooms. We were outdoors for most of the days enjoying the pool and chilling. We were sorry that there wasn't a sea view and we were unable to access the rooftop terrace. That would be have been a great asset to the villa! The location was fabulous with restaurants just 3/5 minutes walk depending on what way you turned when leaving the property. The bus stop to Mahon is a 3 minute walk, which is great for a day trip and the little village of Binibeca Vell is just up the road and so pretty. The island at that time of year is very busy and we found hiring a taxi a problem. However, Samantha, who looks after the villa for the owners was on hand to help with ordering a taxi back to the airport, for which we were extremely grateful! All in all, we had a wonderful stay and came home feeling relaxed (for a day or two at least!)

A week of total relaxation!

  • 5 of 5

If you want to do nothing at all . . . this is the place to do it!

We wanted a week of reading books in the sun - and rolling into the pool when the sun got too much.

We cooked in or barbequed when we could be bothered - or ate at the nearby and excellent Bini Inn when we couldn't.

A small beach is five minutes walk to your right . . . and the village with adequate supermarket and a few restaurants is five minutes to your left.

We didn't even bother hiring a car - we took a local bus to Mahon from a stop just 50 yards away.

The pay-as-you-go bedroom air con worked well - not too expensive.

But some air-con in the kitchen would have helped - we might have cooked a bit more!

It's suitable for a family or maybe four adults sharing.

But for a couple on their own who just wanted to relax - like we were - it was perfect.

Happy to recommend and award five stars.

Location in Binibeca is great for the main beach or the village and local area.

  • 5 of 5

As a couple the villa was ideal for us. The layout is just right and the outside area including the pool was perfect for us. With superb weather and the location of the villa we had a very relaxing fortnight, but were able to travel without any problems with our hire car which was parked outside the villa. The villa is lovely with everything available inc. beach umbrella etc. to use when we went to the local or other nearby beaches. Brian and Andrea were very good to liase with the booking etc. nothing was to much trouble to discuss. Would certainly recommend to any potential holiday makers.

A LITTLE BIT OF PARIDISE

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a 10 day stay at Villa El Barco.

Dealing with the owners was very easy and they were very helpful all the way through from the initial booking up to our departure.

The villa is lovely and was better than described with the only downside being a lack of English TV (this is not the owners fault but due to bad satelite reception in Minorca)

The pool was lovely and clean and there were plenty of comfortable sunbeds around the pool, which we never took full advantage of as we spent nearly all our days on the nearby beach, which is stunning.

The villa is in a great location and its only a short walk to the shops, bars, restaurants and beach.

We did use the aircon on a couple of occasions and It wasn't excessive at all with about 2 hours use for 1 euro.

We hired a car but this is not necessary as everything you could possibly wish for is within walking distance.

Binibeca is in a quiet area without any wild night life which is perfect for us.

I would reccomend this area and the property to any couples or families with young children as a perfect get away from it all destination, where you can relax, feel safe and have great time in a little bit of paradise

Villa in the Sun

  • 4 of 5

We are a couple in our 50s and my husband is blind. We have friends in Binibeca. We have just returned from a week at El Barco. We found the villa as described. The kitchen has all the usual things that are needed for a holiday. The house was clean and everything functioning. The pool was lovely and clean and there were plenty of comfortable sunbeds around the pool. The outdoor eating area was adequate and the bbq very very good. There is plenty of fridge space and a washing machine which is handy. The villa is well situated it is a very short walk from a handy shop where you can buy most things. You do not need a car unless you wish to sight see. A short walk down a stoney narrow path takes you to a very special area to swim in the sea with a swim ladder to access. It isn't a terribly difficult walk but you need to watch your steps. This tiny cove is beautiful and clear and really good for snorkelling. A safe easy access beach with beach bar is about a ten minute walk. There are a selection of restaurants in the area. We ate at Smugglers which has very good steak, and a two for one drink offer between 6 and 7 pm. The owners are Scottish and very friendly. There is Delaneys next to it where we had breakfast and was good value. In the other direction towards Vell we ate at Binibeca Inn which offers beautiful view on the terrace. We also ate at The seafood place, and Binibeca Grill. We also did an evening on the otherside of the beach. So there is a wide selection of places to eat in the area. We bbqed at home twice where I did paella and a mixed grill. We did get a lift with our friends to the big supermarket near Mahon. We took a taxi to and from the airport which costs about 23 euros one way. It is worth hiring a car for a day and having a look around. We were lucky as our friend took us around on our first day. It is a quiet area not any wild night life. A place for early evenings or just sitting around the pool with friends. We are experienced travellers and take at least four holidays a year three of which would be to sunny places and we always rent a house or a flat. There is always a degree of difference between properties, cleanliness, location, etc. You need to bring beach towels. They can be purchased at a shop nearby. We did not need the aircon as it was mid June and the temperature wasn't excessive so I can't comment on how much it would cost if you were to pay extra for this. We had no problems and the owners were very nice.
