About the Owner

We live in Dorset and bought La Fermette 24 years ago. We employed a French architect to renovate the very dilapidated farm house into the stylish and spacious house that it is today - a 'home away from home'.

We have spent lots of fantastic holidays at La Fermette, shared with many members of family and friends. Unfortunately we are not able to visit the house on a very regular basis so we decided to rent the house. It is in such a lovely peaceful setting with lots of facilities including our own swimming pool and tennis court - together with a beautiful golf course within fifteen minutes drive plus miles of walking and cycling opportunities. Not to mention the lovely regional French food!

Very comfortable, well maintained and equipped rural retreat for active and less active alike! Lots of comfortable sofas for reading and watching the Olympics and lots of activities for the more active family members. The pool is really good with a lovely deep end and a fence to keep out the toddlers.

The lack of light pollution gave the most glorious night skies.

Easy to use and very relaxed and friendly owners. Hard to come back home...

Best France Holiday by far!!!

We have just got back and did not want to leave. Fantastic house, facilities and location. Pool, tennis and other games were such a bonus and great fun. Weather was great too. Many thanks to Mike and Bobbi for letting us rent their house. Highly recommend for a great family holiday. Many thanks from the Coxon's.

Fabulous Holiday

Oh how we loved this beautiful place, very rural and peaceful. Suited us so well with the wonderful pool, tennis court, and of course the table football, well used in the evening! Great for walking and cycling in the area, with lovely little villages around. Shopping locally or in the brilliant market at La Roche meant we had bbq's most nights with superb food. Everything as it says and would certainly recommend, it is an excellent family retreat and obviously loved by the helpful owners over the years.

Lovely country retreat with many facilities

We had a fabulous stay at La Fermette la villoniere. The farmhouse was very spacious, light airy and very well equipped.

The tranquillity due to its countryside location was ideal but not too far away from amenities. The tennis court, pool and table football ensure that there was plenty to keep us amused when we felt like leaving the sunloungers. We will definitely be back.

La Fermette is ideally situated, being within easy reach of 4 airports (La Rochelle (52km), Nantes (62 km), Poitiers (117 km) and Angers (123km) and a 3 hour drive from the Channel port of St. Malo (269km). We are 425 km from Paris and 641 km from Calais.

To fully explore the area a car is essential


Nearest villages are Fougere, Bournezeau and Thorigny, which are a few minutes drive. Nearest town is La Roche sur Yon which is 14 km away. In about an hour or less, you can be in La Rochelle and the Isle de Re. Other attractions include the Puy du Fou theme Park, Futuroscope and Les Sables d'Olonne, the home of the Vendee Globe yacht race.

Further Details:

Fougere and Thorigny have local shops and restaurants. The nearest supermarket is in Bournezeau. There are also doctors and dentists here. There are various hyper markets within a 20 minute drive. La Roche sur Yon has a full range of shopping and services.

Refundable Damage Deposit £200

Booking Notes:
A 30% deposit is required to secure a booking, with the balance payable 12 weeks before departure. Bookings made within 12 weeks of departure must be paid in full at time of booking.
A £200 per week security/breakage deposit is also payable with the final payment which will be returned if the property is left undamaged and in a clean state.

Changeover Day:
Changeover day is Saturday, please arrive after 4pm. On your day of departure, please leave before 10am to enable us to prepare the house for the next guests.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

100% refund for cancellations more than 30 days before check-in date.

  • Outside: The house is set in 2 acres of secluded gardens with mainly open lawns (great for ball games) and mature trees ( providing shade if needed). There is a terrace with eating area and BBQ. The 5 x 10 metre private swimming pool has a Roman end. There is a shallow end and a metre deep safety ledge all round and has security fencing with a child proof lock on the self closing gate. There is a paved area with sun loungers for 10 people around the pool and some sun umbrellas. Please note: the pool is not heated so it is only open during the peak season (although if the weather is suitable off season, we may be able to open the pool if requested). The resin/granite championship size tennis court has deep run offs. Bring your own racquets and balls. Table tennis table Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and bed linen are supplied but please bring your own pool/beach towels. Beds are changed weekly. Cleaning can be arranged at extra cost. Please enquire.
