Large south-facing village house in traditional provencal hill village, with spacious, airy rooms and wonderful views of vineyards and coastal mountains. Sleeps 8 in 4 large bedrooms. Large roof terrace with spectacular views. Two centuries old, the house has been in the family for 25 years, modernized but kept original features. One family has let the house frequently over a 20-years period! Several other families come regularly. Callas is a small peaceful Provencal village with essential shops (bakery and small supermarket) and three restaurants, 30 minutes from Cote d'Azur beaches and close to the foothills of the alps . It is 1 hour from nice, 3/4 hour from Cannes, Antibes, St Tropez and the Gorges de Verdon. Nearby lakes and swimming pools. Marvellous walks and bike rides (cycle hire locally) from the doorstep. Serious walking in the alps, 30 minute drive north. Neighbouring lively hill top villages Bargemon and claviers have good cafes restaurants, and open air swimming bool.

Notes on accommodation: We ask for a non returnable 25% deposit on booking, and a returnable security deposit of £150. There is a small charge for electricity. We ask tenants to read electricity meter on arrival and departure, and meter cost (in summer months, average weekly charge is €15-20) is deducted from security deposit. Sheets can be requested, for which the person who looks after the house charges €10 for double bed, €8 for single bed. Outside: Terrace has large table and chairs for 8 people. Utility Room: Washing machine in kitchen. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen can be requested, and fee of €10 per double bed, €8 per single bed paid to housekeeper. Housekeeper will clean during let if required, to be arranged with her direct. Other: The house has the two original old cellars, with tiled wine vat and rabbit hutches (no longer in use)! Bottom cellar has doors onto lower street so bicycles, motor bikes etc can be stored. Wifi available in local bar.

Authentic Provencale village experience

Stayed on a number of occasions now, with friends and with large family, in this lovely big house with great character and charm in the middle of a wonderful village. Situated in pedestrian area so safe for young children to go to the boulangerie and little grocery store alone. The house is very simple but all the better for it, there is everything you need (large fridge, wasing machine, cooker, microwave), just one shower room but it works well. The thick walls meant the house stayed cool downstairs in the summer, and I have also stayed in winter and can vouch that the radiators work well. There are wonderful original tiled floors, the bedrooms are big and airy, and everything was very clean. There are wonderful walks and places to go swimming nearby (we never actually made it to the beach!) The owner responded very quickly to my enquiries and provided very useful advice on the local area and things to do.

Lovely townhouse in Callas

We where so fortunate to spend two weeks in this beautiful town house situated in middle of the picturesque village of Callas.

This home is a comfortable and charming four-bedroom property with the most stunning view from the terrace overlooking the beautiful mountains.

The house was an excellent starting point for trips not only to the surrounding villages but also the impressive Gorge Du Verdon, towns along the cost and much more.

The owner Mrs Dean has been exceptionally welcoming and nice. We definitely hope to be back soon.

Great house a big family

For a number of years my family and I have revisited this authentic and charming house in Callas during the summer. The house that easily accommodates 8 persons has thick solid walls ensuring that the indoor temperature is always pleasant. The rooms are generally spacious and well furnished. The roof terrasse and sitting room has magnifiscent views towards the south and nothing beats a nice evening meal accompanied by the local Vin Rosé and quality family time in these surroundings. The bathroom is rather small but functional and the combined kitchen/dining room is not luxurious but very cosy and - again - functional with gas stove, electric oven, micro-wave, washing machine, dish-washer, etc.

The village - Callas - is typical Provence with narrow streets and friendly local people who willingly accept us as non-locals without making any fuzz about it. 4 - 5 restaurants, one tabac, a hotel and a small super market. The Riviera beaches are less than an hours drive away and several fresh water lakes and streams are to be found less than 15 minutes away.

We are very fond of the house and the area - and the owner has always treated us very well.

We give the house our warmest recommendations although we fear that doing so might limit the availability for our family.

Numerous Cote d'Azur beaches can be reached by car in 1/2 - 3/4 hour most times of the year. In August, it takes longer. There are two good swimming lakes (St Cassien - 30 minutes, and Ste Croix - 45 minutes by car), a lovely open air swimming pool in next village, Bargemon, and large open air swimming pools in Draguignan and Fayence.


Nice airport - 1 1/4 hours by car; Marseilles airport - 1 3/4 hours by car.

Use of car/ car hire is essential.


Bargemon (swimming pool, shops, restaurant) - 5 km; Claviers - 4km; Draguignan - 13km; Fayence - 24km.

Nice - 85km; Cannes - 60km; Antibes - 70km; St Tropez - 55km; Gorges de Verdon - 40km; Grasse - 45km.

Further Details:

Callas has essential shops, including a bakery and small supermarket, a local bar (with complementary wifi), one or two restaurants, a garage and a post office (with ATM). Neighbouring hilltop villages have a further good choice of cafes and restaurants. Draguignan has a marvellous open air local food market, excellent butcher and fishmongers, several banks and a wondeful local museum. Local cycle hire available (Bargemon and Draguignan) and excellent cycling and walking from the doorstep. There is a gliding facility in Fayence.
