The property is a wonderful medieval stone house, renovated to the highest standard. From the entrance hall a wooden staircase takes you to the first floor, where you will find yourself in the spacious sitting room, with double doors to the 42 sq.m balcony with far reaching view of the magnificent landscape. The dining area will comfortably seat 6 people. The bespoke oak kitchen is fully equipped with dishwasher, Smeg fridge/freezer, hob and oven. The master bedroom has a double bed, en-suite bathroom, with marble-topped washbasin, claw-foot bath and toilet. The staircase then takes you to the 2nd floor, where you will find the sunny morning room, open-plan bedroom, and a beautiful sitting area. Huge bathroom with a big shower, and laundry room, with washing-machine and dryer. Back in the entrance hall the staircase takes you down to another bedroom, yet another room, and then to the fabulous vaulted cellar. Outside you will find yourself in patio and the wonderful walled garden.

You are welcome to use the owner's pool next door.

The house has underfloor heating.

About Lise Othmar

My husband and I-both danish- bought our first property in the Lot in 1986, while we lived in London.

We fell in love with this unspoilt area of rural France, restored the house, and had some wonderful holidays the next 12 years, then we bought a chateaux, but after 3 years we decided to sell, it was to much work to keep it up. We then fell in love with an amazing townhouse/ruin from the 14th century in the charming bastide village of Castelnau Montratier, it's now completely restored and very beautiful. Some years ago a property close to my house came up for sale, I bought it immediately, it's almost 300 years and has- like mine- the most beautiful view. It has now been restored to a very high standard, and is tastefully furnished with an eclectic mix of contemporary and antiques.

Montratier Townhouse in ideallic French Village

We thoroughly enjoyed our two week stay in this beautifully presented charming French townhouse. It was lovely to be greeted by Lise on our arrival. The view from the back terrace is amazing looking down the valley and beyond. Many a glass of Rose was enjoyed from there. We loved the décor and ambience of the house it was most charming. How nice to look out the bedroom window and see the village streetscape and the local life of the people of the village. It was nice to be able to walk to the Boulangerie every morning for our croissants. The village has two restaurants just a short walk away. It was also nice to experience the markets in the town square. Many beautiful Medieval towns are within easy driving distance of Castelnau Montratier. We loved our stay here and can highly recommend it to anyone wanting to enjoy a memorable French Village experience.

Beautiful house, very helpful owner, two small issues that might sway your decision to stay here

We had a wonderful two-week stay here; the main living areas of the house are beautifully furnished, full of character, comfortable, and well-equipped. The balcony off the first floor has superb views across the countryside; we spent many hours out there! There is also a sunny walled courtyard below but we never used it, preferring to sit out on the balcony.

The house is situated within easy walking distance of all necessary shops and amenities. The local car park is free and just two minutes’ walk away (you can pull up temporarily outside the house for loading/unloading).

There is much to see and do in the area, whether you want to potter about the many lovely local medieval towns and villages or be more sporty and active.

There were two small issues. I hasten to add that neither one created insurmountable problems for us, but it might help you to decide if this property is suitable for you.

With a teenage boy and girl, we wanted three bedrooms for this holiday. Unfortunately, the third bedroom in this house is below the standard of comfort enjoyed in the rest of the house. This slightly gloomy room is below street level, two floors away from the main living accommodation, with a musty smell and cobwebs. The bed wasn’t made up and I got the impression that Lise wasn’t really expecting us to use the room.

As the lovely second bedroom on the top floor was absolutely huge, containing both a double and a single bed, a seating area and large bathroom, we overcame this problem with the kids sharing the room and a lecture about respecting each other’s privacy, but if you absolutely must have a third bedroom, someone in your party will be drawing the short straw.

Second small issue: we knew that the pool was in the garden of Lise’s house, but the description says this is next door. I envisaged a gate between the two gardens but in fact there is another house between the properties. You have to let yourself into Lise’s house through her front door, going down through the lower levels of her house. The pool and garden area is wonderful, but you can’t easily nip back to fetch something without getting dry, dressed, back along the street and into your own house. We still had a great time at the pool – just don’t forget your water and sun cream!

Lise was very helpful throughout the booking process and our stay, and was eager for us to enjoy our holiday. I would stay here again, but probably not with children. A fab house for two couples, though.

Beautifully decorated

Lise, the owner, was very welcoming and helpful. The view from the balcony is fantastic. The house is comfortable and very well situated in the village. Although there are in theory 3 bedrooms, one of them is not really suitable and the house can comfortably accommodate 5 adults in 2 separate bedrooms. We used the pool just once as the weather was not great. Lise, the owner, lives next door but one so there is no direct access from the courtyard of the house to the swimming pool but it is a nice size swimming pool and there are sun loungers. We did a lot of wine tasting, ate out in the 2 restaurants in the village and visited Cahors, Montcuq and Moissac. It was a good holiday.

Amazing House

We had a fantastic holiday, family of 5 with 3 young children, the house was amazing. Lise the owner was so helpful was great having her nearby and her local knowledge was great.

We especially enjoyed the swimming pool which was beautifully clean. Would totally recommend property.

Charming old stone house

This is a lovely old townhouse in a small mountain village with a breathtaking view and an exceptional stylish interior. Carefully renovated with lots of antique furniture and surprisingly modern equipment, such as heated stone floor, double glazed windows and a small but well functioning kitchen. Perfect for visiting also in winter months.

A fantastic holiday in a fantastic house

Living in the house was impressive. The building and its interior too contribute to a relaxed medievial and yet stylish atmosphere. You will experience an aesthetic and contemporary arrangement of the house which contribute to the splenidid experience of having your holiday in such an old and remarkable building.

The location of the house allows you to say hallo and be greeted in a local town filled with smiles. It doesen't matter if you do not understand the locals they will smile and nod to say hello.

Under our visit we also used the pool which was nice to have in the warm summer weather.

Lise was a great host and provided whatever help we needed during our stay.
