About the property

House in Montalto delle Marche, le Marche, Italy - Quiet Location, 5 Minutes From Central Piazza, Shops, Bars and Magnificent Cathedral

This charming, comfortable, light and airy 3-bedroom townhouse sits in a terrace of a dozen or so houses of varying ages and sizes, within 5 minutes walk of the main piazza of the lovely town of Montalto, with breathtaking views of the Sibillini mountains to the west (from the house) and the Adriatic coast to the east (from the village). As seen on Alex Polizzi's series "Secrets of Italy", le Marche is ideal for savouring local culture and the authentic Italian way of life, including the different festivals held in each village throughout the summer. The annual festival of Witches and Elves is held on Ferragosto (14th August) and the celebration of the village's patron saint (San Vito Martire) is in June. For writers and artists, there is peace and beauty. For cooks, there are fresh local ingredients. Cyclists and walkers will find challenging and attractive routes to explore. The true heart of rural Italy, unspoiled, beautiful, authentic.

About Steven Reed

We bought the house in 2003 and it has had a new roof, bathroom and kitchen since then and also benefits from mains gas for the central heating and cooker. We think these improvements have made this pretty house very comfortable and welcoming and hope that others will be able to appreciate the location and the magnificent views.

Why Steven Reed chose Ascoli Piceno

Le Marche offers the best of both the mountains and the Adriatic coast and also has some architectural gems and a thriving cultural scene, including the annual Quintana in Ascoli Piceno and the opera festival in Macerata. Great for walkers, the peace and tranquility of the countryside contrasts with the lively activities along the coast.

What makes this house unique

The house is central, on a pedestrianised street and just a few minutes walk from shops, bars and restaurants.

Beautiful house

  • 5 of 5

Hi we had a fantastic week in montalto, and found the house to be of a Very high standard and every thing you could wish for, The location is excellent for exploring the surrounding countryside villiages etc, the locals are very welcoming and eager to help. Restaurants beaches wine etc we found to be excellent too, do not hesitate to stay here if it is a unhurried relaxing & culture filled holiday your after.

PS the diving is easy too as the roads are very quiet.

Pete & Wendy Chelmsford Essex.

Coast/Beach:

The beautiful resort town of Grottamare is a 30 minute drive away, featuring an extensive, elegant lido with white sand beaches and dozens of seafood restaurants, cafe bars, and icecream parlours. A range of fashion shops may also be found there. San Benedetto is around an hour's drive and hosts an extensive street market on Friday mornings, specialising in shoes and clothes. There are many beach-side restaurants and a large yacht harbour.

Ancona airport is an 80 minute drive, while Pescara is around 100 minutes away. Both have Ryanair flights direct from Stansted. Further Details:

Featuring a beautiful cattedrale, once the private chapel of Pope Sesto V, this vibrant hilltop community still has many of the buildings from its 17th century heyday. With five cafes (one of which offers free wi-fi), a restaurant, hotel, fruit & veg store, butchers, post office, salumeria, hairdressers, barber, pharmacy, petrol station, ironmongers, bank, pasticceria, pizza takeaway and mini-market all within a few metres of each other, there is no need to stir from the town for any essential items. There is a substantial street market on Wednesday mornings, selling poultry, local produce, fish and meat, clothes, shoes, and household items. The local festas of San Vito Martire (15th June) and Streghe & Felletti (Witches and Elves) in August see the village filled with parades.
