About Mrs Jean Baylis

My family and I enjoy walking, cycling, horse riding and sailing. The location at Cottage Farm is ideal for all these pursuits and more. I also enjoy painting and arrange art workshops in various media in the studio at the farm. I particularly love landscape which, is in abundance in our surrounding areas of the New Forest and Dorset's finest countryside. My paintings are regularly exhibited and some are displayed in the cottages. We enjoy meeting our many visitors from all over the world and sharing this special environment.

Mrs Jean Baylis purchased this cottage in 1999

Why Mrs Jean Baylis chose Wimborne

On the brink of the millenium, my family and I discovered Cottage Farm. Located on the border of the historical and beautiful areas of the New Forest and Dorset's Cranborne Chase, the area is ideal for walking, cycling and horse riding. Ringwood Forest and Moors Valley Country Park offer acres of accessible tracks, all through the year, together with a lake, tree top trail and more. Sea fishing and water sports at the coast are only7 miles to the south, whilst, access to the historical towns of Salisbury, Winchester and on to London are all within easy reach (London approx 2 hours by road). There is something for everyone. Over the years we carefully developed two detached holiday cottages and enjoy sharing this special environment with visitors from many parts of the world.

What makes this cottage unique

Our two detached cottages, Forester's 4*and Keeper's 5* are annually assessed by Visit Britain, both equipped and maintained to a very high specification. Late availability special offers may be available, please contact us directly. The cottages are in the centre of our farm surrounded by 12 acres of our own grazing land. The location offers a peaceful base with ease of access to a wealth of pursuits and sites. We have our own horses and ponies. Riding stables can be found in abundance on the New Forest. Hacking and riding lessons are available at stables 5 minutes away. A dog is welcome in our cottages by arrangement. We also have cheeky free range hens who supply us with delicious fresh eggs also available to our visitors. We have wandering cats and visiting wildlife, foxes, rabbits, deer, bats and all sorts of birds.

Lovely cottage and environment

  • 5 of 5

I brought my disabled mother and my two lively dogs to this cottage for a long weekend. The fact that it is all on one floor with everything easily accessible was great and the dogs had a lovely enclosed area to run about in. The owners were on site and very helpful and friendly, giving us hints and tips on where to go and also putting up with my younger dog's barking at the owners dog and nearby horses. It was a pleasure to stay and I would happily go again.

Beautiful cottage in a great setting

  • 5 of 5

My husband, son, dog and I had a fantastic short break in Foresters Cottage. It is a beautiful cottage, very clean, well maintained and well equipped. The location is perfect for exploring the south coast or just walking in the surrounding area. Jean and her husband were very welcoming and the new laid eggs were so tasty. I would highly recommend this cottage to friends and relatives. Thank you for having us Jean, we can't wait to come back.

Beautiful cottage in great surroundings. Had a great week made very welcome and cottage was immaculate. Great dog walks and fantastic coastline just a short walk away. One small issue free Wi Fi does not work which was a pain as I had some work to do. A great place to take a break and would not hesitate in recommending.

Owner's Response: We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Forester's Cottage and thank you for taking the time to write a review. We do have to correct your description of walks, this is a great location for walks but the coastline is 30 mins drive away and not within walking distance. The majority of our visitors are able to use the complimentary Wi-Fi and it is being used by our present guests. We have found that once the service device is correctly plugged in and given time to connect, visitors to Forester's are able to use the service on most occasions. However, we do not have the same service reception as London and the home counties.

New Forest Hols

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic stay at Foresters Cottage. Owners were lovely & our welcome pack was very welcome along with newly laid eggs. The accommodation was imaculate & really spacious & in a lovely setting overlooking a paddock & forest beyond. There were lovely walks for us & our dog from the cottage & places to eat although it was sitting on the patio enjoying alfresco dining. There was a BBQ but didn't get round to using it. We saw foxes, squirrels & various birds & on our last but one day a young deer run across the Padock. We would recommend this to a home & definitely go back again.
