Villa in Sítio da Nazaré, Silver Coast, Portugal - Situated In A Quiet Area With Easy Access To Atlantic Beaches And Nazaré Itself

This is a modern semi-detached property built in 2002 in an small area of houses (no apartments) looking towards the Atlantic Ocean. It is situated in a quiet horseshoe street with very little traffic.

There is a double bedroom and two with twin beds.

The kitchen is well equipped with a gas oven, fridge/freezer, microwave and utensils.

The house has a front terrace on the ground floor, an upstairs balcony and a rear patio with a pool 6m x 3m.

On one side is a small pine topped hill providing seclusion and quiet. In addition to the main living and bedroom areas on the ground and first floors, it has a double garage, a 10ft x 5 ft snooker table and a large walk in shower in the basement.

The house is a mile from a water park and from the recently opened surfing centre established by Garrett McNamara ( world record holder, set off Nazare north beach).

It is 500m from the centre of Sitio with its elegant square, baroque church and a small chapel where Vasco da Gama went to pray before setting off to find a sea route to India in 1497. Sitio is also the site of a vision in 1182 of the Virgin Mary, Nossa Senhora da Nazare, which is widely venerated in Portugal.

Nazare town and its extensive beach can be easily reached by a funicular, by bus or on foot.

Location

From the Owner

We bought in this area because it is unspoilt and because it resembles the Portugal we used to know. The people lead a traditional way of life which is unsophisticated and leisurely and which suits us! Being close to the sea is important to us and the house enables us to hear the waves crashing in the distance. We wanted somewhere quiet but with easy access to facilities and Sitio meets that requirement.

Coast/Beach:

Praia do Norte beach of Nazaré is a half mile walk through a nature reserve and extends for miles to the north, bordered by dunes and pine forests.

The main beach of Nazaré town (South Beach) is around a mile away. It can be reached by a footpath and a funicular from Sítio or by car .

An aquapark is 5 mins. walk away.

There are many other lovely beaches just a few miles away both to the north and the south - Legua, São Martinho, São Pedro do Moel

Travel:

Lisbon airport is 115km (70 miles) away and Oporto 215km. There is continuous motorway from both to the edge of Nazare, around 7km from the house.

Car hire recommended though house can be reached by public transport from either airport.

Brittany Ferries arrive at Santander (780km) or Bilbao (816km) and it is, without stopping, an 8 hour motorway journey to the house.

Fatima, religious pilgrimage town, 60km

Obidos, medieval walled town, 40km

Alcobaca, monastery of Sta. Maria, UNESCO world heritage site, 10 km.

Batalha, Santa Maria Cathedral built to celebrate victory over Spain in the battle of Aljubarrota is also world heritage site.

Sao Martinho do Porto, small town with lagoon beach, 15km

Peniche, famous for sardine fishing and surfing beaches

Caldas de Rainha is an interesting old style Portuguese town approx. 27k away.

Further Details:

The village of Sitio da Nazaré has many restaurants, souvenir shops, cafés and mini-markets, plus a small daily open air market for fish and vegetables. There is also a butcher, a chemist and a hospital for minor injuries. Nazaré has a larger indoor market. There is a very large Sunday market at Pataias 10km away.

There are three large supermarkets within a mile of the house and many more shops and restaurants in the centre of town.

Banks are located in Nazaré but there are cash machines in Sitio and in the supermarkets.

Nazare has a cinema (English version with subtitles) and a large new library with free internet access and wi-fi.

The area has extensive pine forests for walking, picnics, etc. and there are dedicated cycle and walking paths.
