House in Sutton Hoo, Woodbridge, Suffolk, England - Set In Owners Large Garden On Their Small Farm. Close To Woodland Areas, River Walks And The Coast.

A former sheep shearing shed, Shearers Cottage provides guests with not only a stylish interior, but also a spacious well equipped open plan living area and two beautiful en-suite bedrooms. The cottage offers guests a tranquil base to explore the Suffolk heritage coast and surrounding countryside. The exterior of the cottage is wooden clad in traditional Suffolk style and guests can enjoy watching the wildlife through the large tri-fold patio doors to the front of the Cottage. There is small enclosed garden attached to the cottage but guests are welcome to use the owners large, fenced front garden for ball games etc. and to enjoy the trampoline and swings. On the farm there is also a meadow for more adventurous play, all the owners ask is that you suppervise your children at all times.

About the Owner

My name is Helen Shand and I and my husband Garrow bought Castle Farm in 1987. We are from suffolk farming stock and wanted our four children to have plenty of space to play in safety. Shearers cottage was at that time an old sheep shearing shed in our front garden and we felt it would make an ideal holiday cottage. That was 24 years ago and now Shearers Cottage has been extended and re-furbished to a very high standard. We are therefore on hand if our guests need anything.

Lovely Gem and so convenient

Lovely accomodation with an en suite for each bedroom. Comfortable and a great living area which is open plan with dining, kitchen and lounge area - fully equipped for self catering and light and airy rooms

Very conveniently located to access the main site and attractions of the area, and there are a good number of great eating places within a short distance

Would thoroughly recommend the cottage, especially as we have stayed a number of times and always had a very warm welcome.

Clean modern cottage

Delightful cottage. Family of four stayed here great to have 2 bathrooms one being a shower cubicle. Lovely garden area with many flowers attracting butterflies and many wild rabbits which were great to watch. Nearby Suffolk punch heavy horse great for a trip out. Also many areas for crabbing. Well worth a visit especially if wet was the transport museum, so many vehicles to see.

Great cottage

Really lovely cottage well equipped and situated in a nice quiet spot. Not too far to amenities and within easy reach of many places of interest. Would certainly recommend Suffolk and Shearer's Cottage. Welcome pack a nice touch. Extremely swift response when minor repair required. Did not have the opportunity to meet owners but they were very helpful when booking and prior to visit. Overall great week had by all four of us. One of our group had a disability (above knee amputee) and the layout + fact that it was a bungalow with both bedrooms having on suite facilities was ideal.

Lovely little cottage

The only things that were a negative are couches lumpy, TV in one bedroom only.

On a positive it was a really lovely place to spend a few days away from the Christmas mayhem, both bedrooms had en-suite which really helped it also has all the facilities that you need ,this would be a great place for kids in the summer.

Excellent stay!

We stayed in this lovely rental for a short stay. It was easy to find, the owners were helpful and the interior was superb - really comfortable and well maintained, with great appliances and lovely touches such as soap. The welcome pack was most welcome! Lovely part of the country and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, despite the 'big' storm coming along at the end!

We bought Castle Farm, a 50 acre farm, to have more space for Garrow's contracting business and for our children to have plenty of space for horses, cars, bikes and loads of fun! We love this part of Suffolk as there is so much to do, the varied countryside, with woods, beautiful coastline and wide open spaces to explore, has something for everyone.

Just over 1 hour by train to London.

Coast/Beach:

The nearest beach is shingle street which is 7 miles away. There are no facilities here but it is very quiet. 12 miles away is Aldeburgh which has a shingle beach and lovely shops and excellent fish and chips. Next to Aldeburgh is Thorepness with a large boating mere and shingle beach. Southwold with pier, beach huts and sandy/shingle beach is 20 miles away.

Travel:

Stanstead airport is 1.5 hours away by car. The nearest channel crossing is Dover or the channel tunnel, both of which are 2.5 hours away by car. Our nearest station is Melton which is 1 mile away and connects to the mainline at Ipswich from which London can be reached in 70 minutes. A car is advisible but not essential as there is a limited bus service from the road outside the cottage. Also Suffolk is reasonably flat so cycling is very popular!

Distances:

Woodbridge is 2 miles away and has doctors, dentists, banks, supermarkets, cinema, theatre, restaurants and parks, and the river Deben for boating, sailig and birdwatching. The closest shop for newspapers is at Melton which is 1 mile away. The closest pub is Wilford Bridge which is approximately 1/2 mile away and does all day food. There are excellent eating pubs within 1-2 miles from the cottage. Snape Maltings concert hall is 5 miles away. Minsmere bird sanctuary is 15 miles away.

Further Details:

Rendlesham forest is only 3 miles away for woodland walks and the summer open air theatre. Orford Castle and Orford Ness famlous for the WW11 early warning system are only 10 miles away. Framlingham castle is also only 8 miles away and is well worth a visit. Further afield is Pleasure Wood Hills a family amusement park, which is approximately 1 hour by car. The beautiful North Norfolk Coast is only 2 hours away. Snape Maltings with its concert hall is only 15 minutes away by car and hosts the summer proms. each year.

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: The front door leads into a large entrance hall with space for coats and shoes. A cloakroom off the hall provides a WC, hand basin and utility area where the washing machine is housed. Within the large open plan living area there is plenty of comfortable seating where you can enjoy the woodland view or watch your favorite DVD on the surround cinema system. We provide some DVD's, books and board games. The dining area has a solid oak floor and round table and chairs for 6 people. In this area the day bed is at one end providing extra comfortable seating and beds for 2 people. The bedrooms have luxury beds with pocket sprung, memory foam matteress, and luxury en-suites to both bedrooms. There are double wardrobes and dressing tables in both bedrooms giving plentry of room for your belongings. Please note smoking is not allowed in the cottage. Outside: The cottage has a small fenced garden with patio, small lawned area, and herb garden. There is a garden table and six chairs, bar-be-que and sun lounger for guests use. At the front of the cottage is a gravelled parking area for 3 cars. The owners allow the use of their large fenced front garden which contains a trampoline and swings. These are used at guests own risk and children must be supervised at all times. Within the owners back garden is an unfenced pond which is approximately 4ft deep in the centre. Therefore please suppervise children who wish to go pond dipping! The cottage is on the owners small farm which is home to the Sutton Hoo Free Range Chickens. Guests are welcome to explore and make use of the large grassed field for ball games, riding bikes etc. However please do not climb on the machinery or allow your children to enter the barns unattended. From the farm you can walk to river Deben and enjoy watching the boats, and wildlife. Utility Room: Automatic washing machine, iron, ironing board, clothes airer, pegs and linen basket, vaccum cleaner, mop, bucket, brush and dustpan and broom. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All bed linen and towels are provided and these are changed once a week. If you require more frequent changes then this can be provided at an extra cost. The property is also cleaned once a week on a Saturday, further cleaning would incur an extra cost. Other: Hallway for coats etc.
