About the property

House in Splitska, Brac, Croatia - Located In A Peaceful Village, Just Seconds Away From The Pretty Harbour And The Restaurants

This is a charming little old stone village house which has been lovingly restored over the last few years. It has been fitted throughout with local Brac stone & fitted with a hand-crafted kitchen, 2 bathrooms (1 is a converted Roman well!) with rustic wooden shutters and doors. It is packed full of character, quirky touches, preserving the beautiful old stone work, but refurbished to a very high standard with modern fixtures and fittings. This house is ideally suited for people looking for a quiet, chilled-out holiday: perfect for couples looking for an idyllic place to escape, or for families with children keen on swimming & outdoor activities, with beaches & restaurants just a moment's stroll away.

About Julian Lowe

Kirsten and I came to Splitska on our first holiday together in 2006 and fell in love with the place!

Kirsten and I married on the island in 2010. I have no doubt that you will love it too!

Julian Lowe purchased this house in 2006

Why Julian Lowe chose Splitska

Friendly people.

Great food - fresh & delicious.

The area boasts the most amount of annual sunshine in Europe.

Crystal clear water.

Split is only a 2 hour flight from London; the island is a 50 minute ferry ride from Split; the ferries run pretty much hourly from 5am until midnight every day of the year.

What makes this house unique

The house is 10 seconds from the harbour of a small and very pretty fishing village.

There are 3 restaurants, 1 bar & 1 small supermarket - and no crowds or busy roads.

Beaches and rocks for bathing are all between 2 to 10 minutes' walk.

A great house in a nice little Croatian port

  • 5 of 5

We spend a week in this house in July and this is where we spent our best moments in Croatia. The house itself is very pleasant to stay in and has a lot of charm. The renovation has been done with a lot of taste and the result is great. The location is also very convenient, close to the port, to the local shop and to the Splitska restaurants. Splitska is a quiet port (which is not that easy to find in July in Croatia). To sum it up, we really hope to be back in Splitska!

Perfect location for a quiet relaxing holiday

  • 5 of 5

We have just come back from our 3 week stay in Splitska.

Before writing this I have just read all the other reviews again. Everyone describes it just as it is.... peaceful, welcoming, full of character, so I'll try not to just repeat them!

Thanks to Julian and Kristen for all the information provided about the house, area and island and making everything so straightforward for us.

We had a lovely holiday. This being our first time on Brac but our fourth to Croatia, we instantly fell in love with the island.

Splitska is the perfect base for piece and quiet and after some busy days off exploring we just loved to come back to this restful place and light the BBQ and sit with a glass of wine.

We also have been talking about buying a holiday home in Croatia and after visiting Brac we have decided that Splitska is probably the perfect location to start.

While we were there as well as our morning walks to Postira for coffee and maybe a swim on the way back, we also hired a boat from one of the family members who ran the restaurant in front of the house. Which was great to explore all the small coves that you don't see from the roads. We also hired a scooter from Supertar which was fun for a week but then decided to opt for a car which we went across to Split for ( Nova cars I would recommend, exceptional service and price)

The ferrys are regular and pretty reasonably and as we love Split too we went several times.

There's also a catamaran passenger ferry that runs around 11am on a Tuesday from Milna on Brac to Hvar, and comes back about 8pm. All details are on line. That was a great day out, we hired a scooter when we arrived as we did have 8 hours there, so took a trip around the island but don't miss a drive on the old road.....fantastic views up there!!!!

Overall we would come back tomorrow if we could 😊?😊?

Beautifully renovated stone cottage

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from a wonderful week in the village of Splitska. The property was beautifully renovated, particularily creative was the arched stone bathroom. As my husband is a builder he really appreciated all the work that had gone into this interesting property.

The village itself was perfect, a hidden gem with three excellent restaurants to choose from and a friendly bar on the waterside. We hired a small motorboat one day which was great for exploring all the bays along the coastline. The water was amazing, crystal clear and fantastic for swimming.

I thoroughly recommend this place for a peaceful, authentic Croatia holiday.

A gorgeous house in a beautiful location - wow!

  • 5 of 5

Don't tell anyone else, but Splitska is a real gem - peaceful even in the main holiday season and absolutely beautiful. Thanks to Julian and Kirsten we were able to 'discover' it and enjoy a fabulous 2 weeks with those (mostly Croatians) who are lucky enough to own summer houses there - what a privilege. We are a couple who have just celebrated our 60th birthdays so peace and tranquillity was top of our list. An early morning walk through the pinewoods to Postira for breakfast or a coffee in one bar in Splitska and a fresh lemonade in the other, with a visit to the local shop in between, would see us through to lunch and a siesta with a good book. A late afternoon swim in amazingly clear water, followed by early evening cocktails or a beer in either (or both!) bars would invariably lead to dinner at the wonderful family owned Kod Tonca restaurant where, having mentioned where we were staying, we were treated like Royalty. This was fitting as the house itself is miniature palace - beautifully restored, clean and well designed and equipped to keep you cool, even during the really hot days we had. Our 22 year old son joined us for the first week and 'pushed' us into being a bit more active in our explorations so we did go to Supetar one evening for dinner and braved the local bus to Bol (Zlatni Rat was a zoo and slightly disappointing as a result - even our son was happy to get back to Splitska!). We did a day trip to Split, which was well worth it and even got to Hvar thanks to an 'excursion' we came across through an agent in Supetar - not our way of doing things but as island hopping isn't usually that straightforward, unless you transit via Split, it was much the easiest way to do (although you do have to go on a Tuesday!) - they even picked us up at the bus stop at the top of the hill in a private taxi to take us to the chartered fast catamaran from Bol. A fantastic holiday and a stress-free journey, thanks to Julian's excellent instructions. We cannot recommend Mala Kuca or Splitska enough - they are special, special places that we feel lucky to have been able to share them. We do hope to be back soon, so I said at the beginning, please don't tell anyone else!

Another wonderful holiday in Splitska!

  • 5 of 5

We felt very at home as soon as we arrived at Mala Kuka, and as before it was the perfect base! As well as retracing our steps from last summer – including walking to Dol for lunch at Toni’s - we explored the coastline by boat this time, visiting the beautiful small town of Pucisca! The local people were extremely accommodating making boat, car and bike hire very easy. We ended our holiday with a lovely weekend in Split where the hotel staff ensured we had packed itinerary, recommending restaurants and out of the way places to visit. I have no doubt we’ll be back!

Coast/Beach:

From the house, it is literally a 30 second walk to the harbour. A 2 minute walk along the harbour will take you to a sun-bathing platform with a shower and steps into the sea. Just past this, there are a series of secluded rocky access points which you can have all to yourself. There are also similar rocky access points to the sea on the walk in the opposite direction, ie to the left of the harbour. The nearest beach is approximately an easy 10 minute walk in this direction.

Travel:

Direct flights from UK to Split:

BA from LHR, Croatia Airlines from LHR/LGW, EasyJet from LGW/LTN, Wizz from LTN, & Norwegian Air from LGW.

(NB Brac island's airport is due to increase its international flights in 2015)

It's a 30 min bus/taxi ride from Split airport to Split ferry port. There is a regular ferry from Split to Supetar (the main town on the island) & it takes 50 min. Splitska is 6km (a 5-10 min taxi ride) from Supetar, which is where the ferry arrives from the mainland.

Distances:

Splitska village has a small supermarket (perfect for fresh bread in the mornings) and some very nice restaurants.

For more choice, it is 6km to Supetar & 4km to Postira. Both places have supermarkets, restaurants, banks and ATMs.

Further Details:

Brac is a large island with lots of scenic variety from the coastline to the mountains.

A rental car is one way to get about, but taxis are plentiful and reasonably priced. You can also hire bikes and explore the island at close quarters.

Amongst the attractions of the island are the Zlatni Rat, the most famous beach in Croatia, and Vidova Gora (780m) the highest peak on the island (and the highest peak of all the Croatian islands) with spectacular views over the Adriatic, the nearby islands, and the Dalmatian coast - on a clear day you can see the east coast of Italy too!
