Apartment in Zell am See, Salzburg, Austria - Just 200m To The Ski Lifts, 150m To The Pedestrianised Old Town And 50m To The Pools And Ice-rink.

Zell is compact, safe, accessible and ideal for families. But, for those that want to party: Austria is legendary and venues such as the Crazy Daisy down near the lake won’t disappoint. My apartment only 50m or so from the pedestrianised Alt Stadt packed with restaurants and bars. Skiing-wise we are well positioned near both the town and the lifts. It is also only 200m from the City Express gondola, which takes one directly into the main ski area. Zell am See and Kaprun offer 150km of skiing mainly biased towards intermediate skiers. However, if you’re prepared to hop on a bus or in the car and travel 15-30 minutes then there is almost 1000km of skiing available on a single pass, much more than could ever be covered in a single week.

In summer there is water-sports on the lake, riding, tennis, swimming off-road biking on Maiskogel and much more besides.

About Michael Hampden-Turner

My name is Michael and my wife and two children live and work in London. We've always lived in a city and wanted something contemporary rather than 'cottagey'. We all love skiing, sailing, swimming and cycling which is why we want to make Zell am See our second home! We wanted a place that two families could fit into without feeling cramped. My wife's a hospital doctor, I am an analyst and we have two young children which which means that we don't have much holiday or leisure time. Therefore, we wanted to buy a holiday home that is easy to get to and close to the action, a place near: transport, the centre, the lifts, pool, and ice rink.

Why Michael Hampden-Turner chose Zell am See - Kaprun

Zell am See first grabbed our attention because of its spectacular setting, with a small historic town between the mountain and the lake. Compact and charming, but with lots packed in.

Skiing-wise, the area has lots of variety with beautiful tree-line skiing in Zell, high-altitude glacier skiing in Kaprun, the string of little villages in the Hochkonig and the 'ski circus' connecting Saalbach, Leogang and Hinterglemm.

What really clinched it was the variety of activities for non skiers with swimming, ice skating, riding, spa, roller-coaster and the lively pedestrianized city centre.

When we came in July for the first time the place was transformed. Lots of people come to Zell for the sailing on the lake, walking or cycling in the Hohe Tauern and even skiing on the glacier in Kapr

What makes this apartment unique

Our place is very centrally located. It is 200m to the City Xpress ski lift. There is a ski rental right outside the building. The pedestrianised centre is just as close with all its restaurants and bars. It is 100m to ice skating, swimming pool and bowling.

For those that want to go further afield there car parking under the building with a lift right to the top floor of the duplex penthouse. There is no need for a car as we are within a few minutes walk of the bus and train station.

The place is a good size, 120sqm, sleeps 8 in 3 bedrooms with 2 bathrooms and a further wc. We've kitted out the place to high spec with a 47" TV, DVD/CD/iPod dock, WiFi, underfloor heating and an extensive kitchen. There is a ski room with heated boot racks.

Notes on accommodation: The apartment is self-catered and there are many great restaurants and bars to explore. We can also arrange catering within the Living Max hotel or next door at the Pension Andrea. Outside: Private balcony with some chairs and table. Utility Room: The utility room has an iron, washing machine and dryer. There are also some hanging racks. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The flat is cleaned and sheets and towels are typically changed every week but, if you want more frequent cleaning this can be arranged. This is charged separately.

The apartment is spacious, very comfortable and has a high specification for furniture and fittings.

Very easy access to the main ski lift, even carrying skis and boots and equally great access to bars shops and restaurants in Zell, whilst not being bothered by outside noises.

We have stayed in Zell many times and would certainly consider re-booking this apartment, timings and school holidays permitting.

There are 2 parking spaces - although the on-site agent was adamant there was only 1.. Downstairs ski / boot room is a brilliant addition to a fantastic property. Lovely views from inside and from the balcony.

We would recommend without reservation.

would have been good but..

everything was absolutely perfect, clean warm comfortable but on payment at the end of the week the owner tried to charge us an extra £180 for the bed linen. This was said to be part of the deal and when pointed out it was corrected.

Die Wohnung war sehr schön. es fehlten jedoch einige Teile des Kücheninventars, sowie Toilettenpapier. Auf die Rückmeldung das der Wasserhahn getropft hat und ein Licht nicht intakt war, kam am nächsten Tag der Hausmeister. Dies haben wir sehr geschätzt, es hätte jedoch etwas schneller erledigt werden können.

Ansonsten ist die Wohnung wirklich sehr empfehlenswert. Groß, sauber und gemütlich. Wir haben uns alle sehr wohl gefühlt.

Location

Special interest holidays:

In the summer there is sailing, golf, cycling, mountain walking, flying, paragliding and an amazing spa.

Coast/Beach:

In summer the beach area of the lake is only a few minutes walk.

Travel:

You can see more details on our website but Zell is about an hours drive from Salzburg Airport or 2.5 hours drive from Munich Airport. There is also a train or bus from Salzburg which take about an hour and a half. No car is needed in Zell, even the other ski areas can be easily accessed by bus and/or train.

Distances:

We're right in the town, two minutes to the centre and five to the stations.
