Côté du Grel was part of an old, stone farm building, bought as a shell in 1985 housing a tractor, and not much more. The building was transformed into an open air BBQ restaurant, which eventually closed, allowing the building to be split into beautiful holiday gites.
The gîte has it's own private garden and generous sized balcony with outdoor furniture and BBQ. It has beautiful open plan kitchen/dining/living area with exposed original beams and stonework. The interior decoration creates a clean bright area, with a quirky edge. There is a faux wood burner (gas) for those renting out of season (all the ambience without the hassle) and thick stone walls to keep it cool in summer and warm in winter.
Ground level twin bedroom with ensuite bathroom. Upstairs double bedroom with separate bathroom. (toilets, showers & sinks). Double sofa-bed available. Double oven & grill, hob, fridge & freezer box, microwave, kettle, coffee machine, toaster. Wifi, English Satellite TV & DVDs.
3 beautiful gites, Cote du Grel (sleeps 4), La Maison des Roses (sleeps 4) and Les Hirondelles (sleeps 6), set in the heart of the most majestic part of the Dordogne, in a quiet off road location. Based just outside of the hill top Bastille town of Domme, and 15 minutes from the medieval city of Sarlat.
The gites each have a private garden or terrace area with views across the forest valley. There is a large swimming pool in a peaceful location, with a parasoled seating/lounging area, and a play area for the children with swings, a tyre monster, trampoline, badminton and table tennis.
The area is a photographers dream! The scenic views are breathtaking and the magnificent architecture documents the area's fascinating history, with a chateau around almost every corner.
Nearby attractions include the town of La Roque Gageac built into the cliffs, Castelnaud and Beynac Castle, Sarlat and the beautiful Jardins de Marqueysac.
Fantastic onsite and nearby activities (within 15 mins): Canoeing, kayaking, climbing, walking, high ropes, via ferrata, pleasure boats, paint balling, fishing, golf, hot air balloons, cycling, tennis.
Photography holidays available: A week of daily classes exploring the area, board and evening meals. Please contact us for details, dates and rates.

Hello, I am Maria. I live in France with my husband, brother, mum, dad, and our 4 dogs, Woofie, Dopey, Bobby and Merlin.
We were very fortunate to inherit our beautiful property from my Uncle Neil who moved to France in 1986. We were even more fortunate to have lived here with him for many memorable years before he passed away.
Before Uncle Neil moved here he was a Vicar in Salford, however after being subjected to years of vandalism and break ins, he decided to move to France and set up an open air BBQ restaurant.
The restaurant was open for 12 years. The menu consisted of chicken and chips, or pork and chips, and the wine was always free. Some nights it attracted up to 200 people seated in the barn and garden behind the property. Uncle Neil would wear silly hats and tell jokes. Later in the evening he would play the keyboard and everyone would sing along to 'The Ovaltinis' and 'Teddy Bear's Picnic'.
Ben Frisby purchased this cottage in 1980

Have just returned from France and took the first opportunity to say a huge thank you to you and your family for the excellent week we spent at your gite. The accommodation, pool and the facilities were outstanding. Since we left and have talked about it, your gite is one of the few places we would return to because of its excellence and the warmth of the greetings from your family.
Once again thank you so much for a very enjoyable week.
David Hawdon (Les Hirondelles)
We had an awesome times and loved every minute of it, from the hiking to the rock climbing to the kayaking, tubing and of course the archery. Not to mention the outdoor space, the great atmosphere, beautiful hosts and the freshest of fruit from the trees. I can honestly say it was the best holiday and we can't wait to go back. A very comfortable gite, with lots to do at the property, swimming pool, table tennis, badminton etc. and in a superb location for visiting lots of interesting sites close by. Walked into the medieval town of Domme, (only 20 mins easy walking), and visited Beynac and Roque de Gageac. Stunning scenery, good restaurants, and the river Dordogne to enjoy.
Cannot heap enough praise on this gorgeous gite, part of a small complex close to the lovely medieval town of Domme. It is full of character and has everything needed for a comfortable stay. The location is perfect with some of the best villages and towns in this part of the dordogne in easy reach and loads of interesting sites and garden. We were sent a 'what's on during your stay' email before we arrived which was brilliant in helping us to plan our week, and the quality of tourist information at the gite was second to none. Ben is a great host, super friendly and can't do enough for you, if you are active you must try the canoeing and cyling which he will organise both are superb experiences, we didn't meet Maria but she was very efficient with our booking and any queries - good quality wifi if this is your thing and English tv helped with the teenager. The restaurants recommended in Domme were great (you can walk if you want a drink but you need to be reasonably mobile) - the evening farmers markets were a great eating experience, and if you fancy a night in the pizza takeaway van in Cenac opposite the supermarket was really good. Can't recommend this holiday enough.
This gite is gorgeous and has everything you need for your holiday. It is in a very peaceful location but only 10-15 mins away from many stunning places. The kids loved the pool, ping-pong, tampoline, badminton and having toasted marshmallows at the fire pit.
The owners Ben could not be more helpful, nothing was too much trouble for him. We hired bikes and kayaks from Ben and he dropped us off and picked us up ehem we were finished which was great. All in all this was our best holiday in France and we hope to return in 2018.
Taire du Grel is a beautiful cottage set in hills close the Dordogne river. It is quiet, but convenient for everything. A short walk takes you up to Domme (lovely restaurants and beautiful views from high above the Dordogne) and a short drive takes you down to the river. The cottage itself was perfect for our family of four (we have two boys 8 and 10 yrs). We used the pool every day, played table tennis, made camp fires, did archery and climbed on the climbing wall. Ben and Maria were great hosts. They looked after all of our needs, but weren't intrusive in any way. They supervised the climbing and archery and lent us a canoe and kayak to spend a beautiful day paddling down the river. Everything was clean and well maintained, Ben and Maria made sure we had everything we needed. Thanks for a fabulous holiday guys, and hopefully see you again!
We have had a wonderful 2 week stay here. Property was clean and functional, excellent facilities on site. Made use of the pool, table tennis, trampoline, camp fire, rock climbing wall and canoes. Beautiful scenery around and plenty to do out and about. All in all excellent value for money! Thanks to Ben and family!
Sadly, only stayed a week before moving on, bad move!
Just want to return, and we will.
Nothing but praise for the owners and their friendliness and helpfulness.
Accommodation idyllic and lives up completely to website information.
A car is needed to enjoy the area, but Taire du Grel is only a very short drive from Domme, all types of shops there and more importantly excellent "fooderies "!!
Guess you can assume we enjoyed it!!!!
