This is a spacious, one bedroom apartment in a small, gated development of 24 apartments. It enjoys a fantastic location, close to the beach and village facilities of Zambrone Marina. It is also only ten minutes by car or train from the historic and beautiful town of Tropea, with picturesque Pizzo only a little bit further away to the north.
The apartment is on the ground floor with a small terrace to the front. The terrace and front windows are west facing, offering excellent sea views and the chance to enjoy spectacular sunsets, as the sun slowly disappears over the horizon each evening.
Within the apartment, the practical needs of the holiday maker are well catered for. Appliances include cooker, fridge freezer and washing machine. A selection of shops, cafes and restaurants are available within five minutes' walk, while the beach is an easy stroll of just under one mile (1.6 km). The train station is five minutes' walk, offering access to the beautiful seaside towns and villages along the coast, as well as convenient links to Lamezia airport, Sicily, and all points further afield. Even a short stay here should be enough to let you understand why the Greeks named this area "the coast of the Gods".
We are a couple in our early 40's who enjoy travelling and seeking out new places to visit. However we are also hard working individuals and our rule is we must have at least one relaxing holiday a year. Which is why we purchased this apartment in our favourite, glorious holiday destination of Zambrone.
We first visited Tropea and the surrounding area in 2004. We were totally captivated by the beauty of the coastline, the beaches, and the warmth of the welcome.
Although popular with Italian tourists, who flock there in July and August, the area has remained off the beaten track for package tour operators, and remains almost completely unspoiled as a consequence. Although there are more British and Irish tourists now coming (thanks mainly to the direct flights into Lamezia) it remains uncommon to hear English spoken. This, together with the slow pace of local life, makes for a truly relaxing, get away from it all holiday.
We have stayed in several places round about Tropea, which is one of the most charming places we have ever been. However we think our apartment in Sunset Tropea offers one of the best destinations along this spectacular coastline, due to both the convenience of the location, and the views that it offers.
For a lazy beach holiday, all the things you are going to need are within an easy stroll of the apartment - the beach itself, and enough shops, cafes, bars and restaurants to keep you fed and entertained for well over a week. However, for those who wish to be more active, the convenience of a frequest train service to Tropea and beyond almost on your doorstep cannot be over stated. It offers the benefit of enjoying the town and its beaches as and when you want to.
"I want to say thank you for this lovely apartment. Everything was fine, we were very satisfied. Thank you."

We had a fantastic time in Calabria last week (February 2015). The apartment provided everything we wanted, the description on the website is entirely accurate. In search of some winter sun, we tried Calabria for the first time. We were not disappointed! The weather was very kind. We had clear blue skies for 4 of the 5 days with typical afternoon temperatures of 16 degrees. Night-time temps soon dipped to as low as 3 degrees, so outside sitting was kept to a minimum after each sunset! The sunsets and the views over to Stromboli and the other Aeolian Islands are fantastic. If you are seeking peace and quiet, the other 23 apartments were unoccupied whilst we were there. The car was secure behind electric gates and all the heating / lighting and security systems are modern and reliable.
The apartment is perfectly setup for a break from spring through to late autumn, but do consider winter as you will escape the tourist crowds and enjoy easy parking in all the local resorts. You will not be disappointed. As most of the local restaurants are closed in February (but do checkout Valle Verde only 200m away from the apartment), we self catered. Cooking facilities in the apartment are ideal and we took the opportunity to shop locally and eat Italian. In February it is harvest time for oranges and lemons. There are many supermarkets and smaller alimentari within 20 minutes drive. The support services provided by Lorraine and Paul at Calabrian services in Pizzo (keys / local info / security etc) were first class. Arrival and departure were smooth and trouble free.
A car is essential out of season. We enjoyed a great day out to Taormina (Sicily), Gerace and Scilla (must see). The local resorts of Tropea and Pizzo are interesting and offer great views and walks.
Many thanks to Fergus for all the interesting and accurate information about the apartment complex and the locality ahead of our visit.
This property fulfilled every promise it made, beautiful scenery from the apartment, amazing coastline and delightful nearby towns. The property itself was really comfortable with all the amenities you could ask for. A car was really neccesary to visit surrounding towns though there is a train service from a station within a 10 minute walk from the property. We dined several times at local restaurants and we weren't disappointed with any of them, at the station bar/cafe there was a fantastic range of delicious ice-cream available.
The towns of Pizzo and Tropea are quite close-by and are really worth a visit for both shopping and a good selection of restaurants also both towns are of a great historical interest. We also ventured further afield to a monastery at Serra San Bruno which was both a very scenic drive to get to and a really interesting place to visit, we also took drive to Mount Etna on Sicily which was amazing, a day return on the ferry from Villa San Giovanni to Messina was about 45 euros for a day return.
For day to day provisions there's a small supermarket near the station otherwise there's a larger one on the national road near Pizzo. Finally I would like to say that Lorraine and Paul of Calabrian Services were most helpful in all aspects.
Coast/Beach:
Zambrone has a large, sandy beach located only one mile (1.6 km) from the apartment. There is generally ample free parking at the beach. The second, more secluded, beach is also well worth a visit (follow the path at the end of the railway platform).
The Tyrrhenian coast is renowned as having the best beaches in Italy and there are numerous options in neighbouring Parghelia, Tropea, Briatico, and further afield. Water sports are also available in Zambrone and elsewhere.
Travel:
The apartment is easily reached by road or by rail. Airport transfers from Lamezia can be arranged by the management company. Options include: By road: A3 then SS18 then SS522. There is also a shuttle to the train station from the airport. Catania Airport (Sicily) 210km (4h by car or train, includes 30 min ferry). Naples 422km, (4h by car or train).
Distances:
There is a variety of shops, restaurants and cafe/bars within five minutes walk of the apartment. Larger supermarkets can be found in Briatico and Tropea, both of which can be reached within ten minutes by car or train.
Tropea is the largest and most famous resort town in the region, and offers excellent beaches, restaurants and other facilities, including boat hire. The town itself enjoys a spectacular location perched on a cliff top and is not to be missed.
Further Details:
Apart from beaches, Calabria offers many possibilities for walking, hill walking and mountain biking. There are three national parks within easy striking distance of Zambrone (car required). There is also the beautiful regional capital, Reggio within ninety minutes' drive, while the ferry to Sicily can be reached in similar time by car or train.
One of the most popular day excursions is to the volcanic island of Stromboli, one of the Aeolian islands located just off the coast. Regular volcanic eruptions ensure a memorable trip, particularly when viewed at night.
A wide range of other organised tours and activities are available, including day trips to Sicily and Mount Etna. Details can be obtained from local travel agencies in Tropea (see CSTTropea.it) or the management company.
This is a beautiful and largely undiscovered part of Italy, with warm and pleasant conditions generally stretching from April through to early November. Accessibility from UK is also good, with Ryanair offering three flights a week year round from Stansted to Lamezia.
