About the Owner

Owning a lakeland home has been our dream for many years since our first holiday together and then gettiing married in the lakes. We searched for years before finding Ees Wyke and falling in love - it is our dream home and in such a beautiful village.

For us Ees Wyke has everything we dreamed of and is a wonderful family home for our 3 kids. We all love it, the pace of life and the great local walks.

Its location is perfect -right in the centre of the lakes - close to the picturesque village of Hawkshead and only five miles from Ambleside and Langdale. The cottage is in a great spot with great views over Esthwaite and the Langdales.

We are delighted to be able to share Ees Wyke Cottage with others people until such time as we can live there ourselves.

Comfortable home

  • 4 of 5

The house was very comfortably furnished. Kitchen well equipped. Beds very comfy. Both bathrooms were upstairs. The house doesn't lend itself to a downstairs loo but worth knowing beforehand if it could be an issue. Dog friendly but also smelt quite doggy. Managers very helpful when certain problems were highlighted. Garden not enclosed.

Only ate at the local pub, Tower Bank Arms. Lovely food. Essential to prebook, even mid week low season

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review. Please may I apologise for the doggy smell left by the previous guests - we have never had this problem previously and this is why we ask that dogs don't go on the furnishings and upstairs. Nearly all of our guests respect this. As a result of your issues as you know immediately supplied extra air freshners whilst you were there and had the carpets and soft furnishings professionally cleaned immediately you left the cottage to remove any lingering odours. We hope this did not impact too much on your stay. Kind Regards Dave

Lovely cottage

  • 5 of 5

Lovely cottage, well located and well equipped. All ages from children to grandparents enjoyed the holiday in the cottage and we would love to return. Segways in Grizedale forest were a real hit with the grandparents while we did Goape. We had great weather and the surrounding countryside was very beautiful.

Owner's Response: Hi Louise We are so pleased you had a lovely holiday - especially after travelling all the way from Switzerland. Grizedale Forest is really good for all the family - from the gentle sculpture walks, the kids adventure park, mountain biking and more adventurous walks and GoApe. Didn't know they now had segways - I will give it go next time we are up. And sunshine too - we cannot always guarantee that I am afraid. Hope to see you again. Sharon and Dave

Lovely break with friends

  • 5 of 5

My friends hired the cottage for the week and myself and boyfriend were invited to stay for a few days. We had a wonderful time exploring and enjoying some lovely walks. We go to the lakes every year and I found the location of this particular cottage was brilliant to visit my favourite places. With Hawkshead close by we were able to get items from the shops and enjoyed a lovely pub dinner one evening (I can't remember the name of the pub).

The cottage has a lovely homely feel and the views of the near by lake Esthwaite are gorgeous. As was watching the wildlife and enjoying the peace & quite because I am from the hustle and bustle of Manchester.

I would definitely recommend this cottage for all ages and I would very much like to go back.

Excellent Cottage

  • 5 of 5

A fantastic little cottage and location with view over the lake and onto the Coniston hills beyond (can see the old man of Coniston too which is worth a climb)

Perfect location with many walks possible from the cottage (over claife heights and down to far sawrey and the ferry - plus a good walk around the lake to hawkshead) plus only a few miles to travel to other spots.

The cottage was ideal for the family of 6 adults - well equipped and very comfortable. For a 19th Century coachman cottage its ideal - and has plenty of character.

We will return and highly recommend to anyone considering renting this little bit of England and tranquility.

Delightful Lake District cottage

  • 5 of 5

What a great place. Beautiful sunny views down to esthwaite lake and short walk to a terrific pub and great park for our little ones. Who knew such a small village could have such an amazing park. We found a path down to the lake too. The kitchen was well stocked with even a blender for making soup. Perfect.

Location

From the Owner

We just loved it! It's a beautiful traditional Lakeland cottage in a great location. It has that charming farmhouse feel with some great period features whilst having all the modern facilities we wanted. The cottage is in a private, beautiful and quiet spot within the most lovely Lakeland village. The cottage garden is a delight with superb lake views. It is the perfect place to relax & get away from it all whilst being close to the tourist attractions & local facilities. All the bedrooms have great views of Esthwaite and the Langdale Pikes. It has fantastic local walks and a fabulous local pub - the National Trusts' Tower Bank Arms - with good food, real ales and with all that rustic lakeland charm that is so very warm, cosy and friendly.

Further Details:

Near Sawrey was home to Beatrix Potter and still attracts many visitors to her home at Hill Top which is open to the public and 2 minutes walk from Ees Wyke.

From Ees Wyke there are many great walks and not all of them have to be overly strenous. A great local walk (1 hour) is around Moss Eccles Tarn finishing off with a warming drink at the Tower Bank Arms - it is a delight with excellent food and beer. For a longer (2.5 hour) walk to Claiffe Heights finishing at the neighbouring Cuckoo Brow Inn at Far Sawrey for lunch.

Good food is also available from the Sawrey House Hotel in the village.

Glorious Hawkshead village is just 1.5 miles away & has a range of museums (Wordsworth's Grammar School & Beatrix Potter), shops (incl post office, pharmacy and grocery), pubs and restuarants. The best food is probably at the Queens Head.

Close by at Barngates is the celebrated gastro-pub and brewery, The Drunken Duck. Just a minutes drive away from Tarn Hows - perhaps the most beautiful and photographed spot in the Lake District. Tarn Hows is a must visit spot and it only takes an hour to walk around.

Ambleside offers many more choices of shops (especially outdoor pursuits), cosmopolitan restuarants and local pubs.

The hustle and bustle of Bowness and Windermere towns are just a short ferry trip away across Lake Windermere (1.5 miles). Bowness is the start of many boat trips around the lake & home to the Beatrix Potter museum.

Other notable local attractions include:

Walking - Langdale Pikes (5 miles)

Art, sculptures and "Go Ape" climbing - Grizedale Forest (2 miles)

Aquarium and steam railway - Lakeside (6 miles)

Wordsworth's homes and the walkers village of Grasmere (7 miles)

South Lakes Zoo - Dalston (12 miles)

Ulverston and Laurel & Hardy Museum (10 miles)

Local Spa's - Swan Inn at Newby Bridge (7 miles)

Or you can just chill and enjoy the peace and quiet of Ees Wyke.

Facilities

From the Owner

We particularly enjoy the quietness and romance of the cottage and its location. The cottage is light and airey with a lot of space for a traditional lakeland cottage. The kitchen/diner is well equipped and a perfect family room - whilst the lounge is spacious but still gets very cosy on those cold evenings. Having 2 bathrooms is a real advantage. The local walks are exhilerating without having to be too strenuous - the easy to reach picturesque views have to be seen to be believed. We have already met lots of friends in the village and the Tower Bank Arms still has that truly local feeling to it, as well as catering for people holidaying. With no TV or juke box all you can do is talk and get to know folk - and you do talk! It is a place to truly relax and get away from it all.
