Sunnybank is a villa-style property in the heart of the little-known but beautiful Blackdown Hills. Situated in the lee of Penncross Hill and reached by a quiet country lane, Sunnybank boasts unequaled panoramic views of the Culm Valley. We have furnished Sunnybank in a modern but luxurious style with guests requirements specifically in mind. All creature comforts have been provided from plenty of comfortable seating in the living room through top-of the-range kitchen appliances to en suite bedrooms with super-king sized beds. Oil-fired central heating keeps the house warm when required and there is hot water on demand. Pool,Table Football and Darts are available in the games room and a boule pitch for the more active outside. Sunnybank has a large sheltered terraced garden with plenty of room for the kids to run around and adults sit and relax, perhaps enjoying a soak in our hot tub. WiFi internet is available, ideal for surfing the web or keeping in touch with family and friends.

About the Owner

Sunnybank overlooks Culm Pyne, the farm where me (Cath) and my partner Guy live and work. Our lives are shared with a variety of hounds and terriers and two' hairy ponies' whom I seem to spend all my spare time running around after! We grow cider apples for a living; they are sold to both multinational companies and local artisan cider makers. So it is very likely that if you drink cider you will have tasted our apples! I also run a small livery yard, so horses are to be found grazing in the surrounding fields.

Everything thought of in house only suggestion would be additions of (thicker) curtains in bedroom as lighter mornings led to children being early risers. We purchased Sunnybank due to its proximity to the farm. But mostly we purchased Sunnybank for the views; looking across the Culm Valley on a clear day you can as far as Dartmoor. We feel there is nowhere with a more spectacular setting in the Blackdown Hills. Sunnybank is only 15 minutes from junction 26 of the M5 motorway and is only 1/2 mile from Hemyock with its shops, pubs and range of amenities. Yet it is set in a very quiet location, ideal for a peaceful and relaxing holiday.

Nearest Motorway : M5 at 5 Miles Car: necessary

Coast/Beach:

North and south coasts are easily accessable being approximately 45 minutes away as is the World Heritage Site Juassic coastline around Lyme Regis.

Travel:

Nearest Airports Exeter and Bristol. Good Rail links via Taunton, Honiton and Tiverton Parkway.

Distances:

Closest village, Hemyock is 1/2 mile away. Wellington 5 miles, Taunton 10 miles, Honiton, 9 miles, Exeter 23 miles away.

Further Details:

Hemyock has a well-stocked '8 til late' Spar where newspapers, beer, wine and DVD's can be purchased. There is also a post office and village pub which serves good beer and quality pub food. Wellington is the nearest town with several supermarkets including Asda, Waitrose and Safeway. For more extensive shopping Taunton or Exeter are the nearest larger town/city.

Sunday supplement: If you are staying the weekend at Sunnybank and feel it is a shame that you have to leave so soon on Sunday morning; for a £25 supplement extend your stay until 4pm giving you time to go out for the morning, have lunch and still get home in time for work Monday morning.

Changeover day is normally Fridays. Unlike most holiday cottages we at Sunnybank are happy to offer Short Breaks throughout the year, please contact us to discuss your requirements.

Available from 4pm on day of arrival to 10 am on day of departure.

  • Notes on accommodation: Prices include electricity, oil and a small supply of logs. No smoking is allowed at Sunnybank. Pets are welcome at Sunnybank at the owner's discretion. Outside: Sunnybank has a sloping, terraced garden with two patio areas. There is a summerhouse, patio furniture and charcoal barbeque/brazier. For the more active, there is a boule pitch (boules are provided) and a football game to let off steam with. Relax and enjoy our private, outdoor 6-person hot tub. It is situated on our second patio area which has shelter and seclusion but still with the stunning views that characterise Sunnybank. Utility Room: Washing machine, tumble drier and ironing facilities. Adjoining cloakroom with WC. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and bed linen are provided. Sunnybank is cleaned between guests when and towels/bed linen are changed. Other: Games room - table football game, house information, books and tourist information, child's cot/bed (for up to 5 year olds, if requested). First garage - pool table and dart board. Second garage full-sized table tennis table.
