In the Heart of Beynac Village with Spectacular Castle and River Views

Overview

Property

Updated: 02-Dec-2016
3 beds sleeps 6, Great Base to Explore the Region, Village Location with All Amenities, 3 Minute Walk to Shops, Restaurants & River

Near Sarlat, the house is situated in the Beautiful village of Beynac et Cazenac on the ancient path leading up to the Medieval Castle. Being built into the cliff face the house overlooks magnificent views of the Dordogne and neighbouring castles while looking directly upwards from the peaceful garden terraces at the rear reveals remarkable views of Beynac Castle. The location of the house provides an ideal base for exploring the Dordogne region with its beautiful views, castles, Bastide villages, vineyards & enjoy the relaxed French culture. Beynac, not surprisingly has been voted one of France’s most beautiful villages; it has a variety of restaurants, food and antique shops, galleries, and a summer market to explore. You can walk to the medieval castle on the cliff top above the village or take a more relaxing trip up the river on a gabarre (local boat) or simply pass the time of day on the secluded terraces at the rear of the house.

The house is located on the steep path/narrow road up to the castle (as see in the film 'Chocolat'). Because of the slope and layout you will find the house has two front doors. On entering the first, main front door, you will find a door on your left which leads to the main bedroom with en suite. To the right is a staircase leading up to the first floor and the large lounge with seating for six and stunning views of the river and 3 castles. There is WiFi, TV(Orange .fr cable tv), a DVD player, 40+ DVD's - wide selection to suit all ages, a HiFi music center - with a selection of music CD's, a Chest with board games for all ages, Books & Binoculars. Beyond the sitting room are 5 steps up to the kitchen/dining room. The kitchen is supplied with Bottle gas oven & hob with Extractor Fan, Ceiling Fan, dishwasher, large multifunction microwave and fridge with freezer compartment. There is an extendable dining table with six chairs (a high chair and booster seat are located in the hall under the stairs) There are place settings for 12 plus an array glasses and comprehensive set of cooking utensils.

from the kitchen there are two staircases, one leads up to the attic bedroom with 2 single beds and the other down to the double bedroom (again with stunning views of Fayrac Castle) and to the second front door. There are french windows which lead to a small kitchen balcony with views of the river and castles. From the back of the kitchen/diner is a door that leads to the shower room with the utility room beyond (washing machine, tumble drier & Hoover). To the left of the steps leading to the lounge is a door leading out to the two terraces with a table & 4 chairs, a bistro table & 4 chairs plus an additional folding table & 2 chairs, 2 sunbeds, 2 sun umbrellas and a Weber kettle Bar-B-Q with cooking utensils. Look up from the terraces and you have a stunning view of Beynac castle directly above you.

The lounge and kitchen are on the first floor for three reasons, one, to give easy access to the terraces; two, to take advantage of the wonderful views - I never tire of them; and thirdly it provides more privacy.

Temporary parking is available on the quay. A weekly Non-residents parking ticket (at around 13euros) is available from the Mairie. opening hours Mon to Fri 10.00 to 12.00am and 2.30 to 4.00pm This reduces the cost of parking in Place D'Alsace considerably.

The village, has a small supermarket/deli, butcher, chemist, two bakers and a Hair Salon. There is also a post office, ATM, Tabac, Tourist information office as well as antique shops and galleries.

The Village Dr. - Speaks good English. On the door is a timetable with Times for drop-in, and times for booking an appointment.

The Restaurant La Petite Tonnelle (has great reviews on the internet - you will need to book in high season) Hôtel Restaurant du Château (200 meters distant) and several others within easy walking distance.

All amenities are within 3 minutes walk of the house.

If you require more selection there is a large Carrefour supermarket at Saint Cyprien (petrol available here) - about 6 miles. Or a similar distance in the opposite direction on the outskirts of Sarlat there is a Casino supermarket.

About the Owner

My husband and I fell in love with the region while holidaying here. Buying and renovating the house gave us a project and the opportunity to return here as often as we could. The region has so much to offer in regards to history, culture and great food. It is also so beautiful, that we never tire of it.

The property was wonderful and exactly as shown in the photos. The house has everything you need and there are two separate sleeping ends giving privacy to occupants. We had a lovely family reunion there with 5 adults and a baby. The village of Beynac is delightful and there is lots to do in the immediate area. The views over the river and up to the castle are spectacular. The owners were extremely helpful and answered all our queries promptly. We would definitely stay there again. The property does have stairs and would not be suitable for very young children. (VRBO)

The house is simply gorgeous! It has beautiful views of the castle and river and is well laid out if you are staying with a few people as the bedrooms are separated and private. Beynac is simply stunning and the house is in a great location, a quick stroll to the local shops and the river. Ruth was great, very responsive from the start and accomodating! Highly recommend both the house and the town :)

Beynac 2013

  • 5 of 5

A wonderful property in a superb location and close to all amenities - restuarants, boulangerie, boucherie, and general store. We swam in the river every day and also walked to several of the local castles. The house was very comfortable and as keen cooks we found he kitchen had everything we needed. We can recommend the Petit Tonnelle restuarant and the local cafe for early morning coffees. It is worth visiting Beynac castle to get an amazing birds eye view of the property from the battlements.

Location

From the Owner

We fell in love with the region when travelling through France. The scenery is breathtaking and there is so much history. We bought the property in 2005 as a project to renovate but would like to retire here. The house was not such a small project in the end, but we have enjoyed renovating it over the past few years. We enjoy the weather, stunning scenery, the history of the area and the relaxed French way of life. A house needs to be lived in and letting it in the interim is an ideal way of doing this while sharing the lovely location with others.
