Spacious, innovative, comfortable, light and airy, an instant holiday atmosphere
The house is architect-designed, built in a provencal style, with traditional beams throughout. Ceramic tiles and light fittings are used extensively, all specially made for the house. The two main bedrooms are at opposite ends of the house, an ideal set-up for two couples who do not want to disturb each other, or for parents who don't want to hear their children. It has a large sitting/dining room, three bedrooms (sleeping 7, although the bunk-bedded room is really small), two bathrooms, kitchen, terrace with barbecue, and a garden with a 5m x 12m pool. Access to the house is via a narrow lane. The property is completely fenced, with parking for 2 cars within the gates. Whether you enjoy walking the miles of footpaths, visiting modern art museums, sitting at cafés in pretty villages, admiring dramatic scenery, wind-surfing and sailing, or relaxing with a chilled glass of local rosé, this is the holiday for you.

A wonderful location and very tranquil. Owners were extremely helpful and always at hand if there were any issues. The grounds were very beautiful and the pool was so good to swim in or just sit beside and relax.
We will be very happy to return again.
Hiker, cyclist, lounger-by-the-pool's paradise!
This was our second visit and we loved the house with its excellent amenities (including a very well equipped kitchen) and glorious hill-top views (a fabulous night sky and sunrises!) Lying by the pool, a myriad of cycle adventures, hikes in the nearby Gorges de Verdon or eating outside on the large private terrace all added to the sense of complete relaxation. Charming village and tranquil setting. Highly recommended and worth travelling all the way from New Zealand to stay there.
What a delight
A week away from my busy life in London spent with family and friends and it was everything I could hope for. Just idillic. The view from the terrance is something to behold, the village is charming, the house is well equipped, the beds are comfy. I don't have anything bad to say. Sarah made it all so easy. I will definitely be back.
Charming and comfortable
We returned for our second stay in this charming house in less than a year. The pictures give an accurate impression of the house and garden. The nearby village is also very charming, and can provide most of what one needs for a slow-paced holiday. The surrounding region gives plenty of opportunities for restaurants, wine, and nature.
Really great home from home
Such a fantastic property. Really well equipped, fantastic views, lovely pool and in a wonderful village. We had a great holiday and would certainly consider returning. The house really felt like home!
A favourite place
This was the second time we'd stayed at Les Cantalus, and it was as lovely as ever.
The house was clean, comfortable and tidy, with everything we needed. The swimming pool was a fabulous addition since our last visit and with views across the mountains and hills it's idyllic.
The setting is great, with the village of Ampus unspoilt by tourism; and the coast, the beautiful Gorge du Verdon and Lac de St Croix within an hour's drive.
There are pleasant evening strolls and hard hikes from the house or the surrounding areas; there are tourist villages with art galleries nearby; canoeing and pedaloing from the lake; cafes and restaurants in all the villages... what more could you want?

Activity and Interests
Draguignan (20 minutes drive downhill) is the nearest large town with all the usual shops, supermarkets, garages, and a classic market in the old part of the town on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Half an hour away is the Lac de Ste Croix and the Gorges de Verdon. These are spectacular for sightseeing, walking, canoeing, hiring a pedalo, swimming, sailing. Ampus is surrounded by many other pretty provencal villages, usually with cafés and restaurants of their own, such as Tourtour (known locally as "the village in the sky"), Bargemon and Callas. Many of these villages host classical music concerts in the summer - enjoy a truly magical evening. Food and wine are important elements of life in the region and you will be spoilt for choice by the restaurants. Further afield but accessible for day trips are Monaco (Grand Prix and the Casino), Grasse (perfume and Napoleon), Antibes (the Vieux Port and Picasso), St Tropez (yachts and the Anonciade), a number of golf courses nearer the coast.
Ampus is about 12 hours' driving from Calais. However, it is also easy to fly to Nice and hire a car. The drive from Nice to Ampus takes about 1 hour 20 minutes along the A8 motorway westwards. (Flying to Toulon - 100 km - or Marseilles - 150 km - are also possibilities. They are much smaller airports than Nice.) There is a TGV (high speed train) station at Les Arcs (called Les Arcs Draguignan) which is about 30 minutes from the house. A car is needed for the holiday.

Once the availablity of the holiday is confirmed, you need to secure it by a non-refundable deposit of 25% of the holiday cost. The balance will be payable 8 weeks before arrival, at which time a deposit of £200.00 per week of stay is also payable, against damage or breakage. On receipt of the balance you will be sent details of how to find the house.
Saturday is changeover day, although this is very flexible in the low and mid season.

- There is space in the garden to play boules (a set is provided) or badminton (net provided). A Utility Room houses the washing machine, large fridge/freezer, iron, ironing board, butler's sink, and cleaning materials Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen including pool towels are provided. The property will be clean when you arrive and will be cleaned when you leave. Other: You will probably eat most meals on the terrace (which has a barbecue) admiring the view. There is plenty of storage space for suitcases throughout the house, as well as wardrobes and chests of drawers.
