Myrtle Cottage pets are welcome. Welcome to Appledore Holiday Cottages. We have several traditional fisherman's cottages located in Appledore, North Devon, a wonderful location for a quiet break or a fun filled family holiday - Appledore and the surrounding area has so much to offer! We can cater for couples and large groups - whatever your requirements please contact us so that we may assist you further! Myrtle Cottage is a stunning period cottage split into 2 properties that can be linked for very large groups. Myrtle Cottage is the main part of the house, featuring 4 bedrooms, walled garden with driveway parking for 3/4 cars. Large kitchen, living room and dining room. Gannets Annexe takes part of the same large cottage as Myrtle Cottage. Gannets has its own separate entrance, but can be joined internally to make a wonderfully spacious property for up to 17 guests.

The front door of the cottage leads into a porch and doorway through to the dining room with log burner and inglenook fireplace. Large dining table and chairs. From the dining room, doorway through to large lounge, with lots of comfy sofas and seating, Sky TV, Unlimited Internet and Printer, DVD, Stereo. Also from the dining room there is a doorway through to the large farmhouse kitchen, with everything you need to cook a feast! Dishwasher included!

also, downstairs there is a utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer, downstairs cloakroom. Stairs lead from the dining room up to the first floor where you will find 4 bedrooms off the large landing and a large bathroom.

myrtle cottage can be combined with it annexe, gannets.

Although we had a superb holiday we were dissaponted with the cottage. It looks amazing but upkeep is not a priority. It is full of clutter pracrtically every cupboard, even the kitchen , was full,so no space for our stuff and with 6 adults and 2 little one quite difficult.1 cupboard in kitchen empty Even had to empty the bedroom cupboard to put my clothes in . Only 1out of 4 bedrooms had a small hanging space. Rodent poison pots were found by us and not told they were there and with a 21 mth little boy running around was quite disturbing. Everything was old , not quaint old, just old ! Books were everywhere you couldn't put a cup of tea down unless you moved stuff. No hot water in downstairs toilet. Most window catches were broken or non existent. Rugs eveywhere trip hazard big time.On the plus side there was a garden with parking but would rather have had a modernised clean fresh cottage as we have had on previous trips . Also some noises in attic in night , probably the furry friends the dishes were meant for. Apart from that Appledore and Instow and surrounding areas are stunning.

Owner's Response: Appledore Cottages appreciates all constructive criticism from our guests and our priority and aim is to offer a good service and ensure our guests have a enjoyable holiday. We have noted the review. from our guests 20th August 2016, 1. KITCHEN - Myrtles is a large house which caters up to 12 people, therefore we supply a fully equipped kitchen for our guests. There is a large floor to ceiling double pull-out larder cupboard for food as well very large fridge freezer - a stainless steel kitchen table with storage underneath with 2 veg racks. 2. BEDROOMS - Storage Space, the king size bedroom has a large built in wardrobe which has shelving hanging space and a chest of drawers. The other two double bedrooms have large chest of drawers, large antique cupboards with shelf space. It appears that our changeover staff had left laundry bags of clean bedding for the next changeover in one of the large cupboards. We apologise for this. Normally this is stored in the airing cupboard in the family bathroom. 3. RODENT POISON POTS - We have absolutely no idea where these were found or how they came to be in the property as we do not use this in any of our properties. 4. EVERYTHING WAS OLD - Myrtles dates back to the 1700's in parts of the house, and other parts are 1900's. Myrtles is equipped with expensive antique furniture: new televisions, new appliances Unlimited wifi & printer - rustic and modern furniture plus antique handmade carpets. i.e. the sitting room has an antique ziegler carpet valued at several thousand pounds. At the beginning of the season we re-carpeted with new fitting carpets on the large landing and family bathroom as well as painting and decorating. 5. DOWNSTAIRS CLOAKROOM - Unfortunately it only has cold water in the sink, however in the utility room there is a new washing machine and tumble dryer. 6. WINDOW CATCHES - I am aware of some replacement needed in the kitchen, however during the season of July/August it is impossible to attend on a limited time frame of Saturday changeovers for non urgent or dangerous running repairs. 7. WOULD RATHER HAVE HAD A MODERNISED CLEAN FRESH COTTAGE - From the feedback I will endeavour to make sure on all future booking enquiries that we ask potential clients their preference of modern minimalist seaside cottages or large comfortable houses with Antique Furniture and Carpets 8. Note these guests had a limited budget and we reduced the normal rate.

If surfing is your thing, you won't be disappointed! North Devon has some great beaches for surfing, kite surfing etc! Westward Ho! is the nearest surf beach, just 5mins from Appledore.Travel slightly further afield and you will find some awesome surfing at Croyde, Woolacombe and Saunton Sands! Also it is a great place to take a fishing trip with many boats travelling out each day, Diving and trips to Lundy Island -Ferry over to Instow. Appledore has a large number of Courses available for painting -cooking -pottery -jewally making -gig boat rowing -fishing -walking tours. We are ideally situated on the Coast Path between Exmoor and Cornwal. Tarka trail accross the Estuary by Ferry. We have lovely friendly pubs that are both dog and child friendly -great food - locally caught l fish -local musicFind something interesting to you.


Appledore is a great base for exploring North Devon's beautiful coastline. Appledore Quay is the heart of the village and the place where locals meet to chat and watch the world go by! Crabbing on the quay is lots of fun and Appledore holds the world championships every year, anyone can enter, just pick up a crabline from the local gift shops and find some bait (bacon works best) - kids will love it!Great place to take a fishing trip, with many boats travelling out each day.


Travel Directions to Appledore Cottages: By car:North Devon- Exit the M5 at junction 27 and take the A361 to Barnstaple and then the A39 to Bideford-exit signed Appledore/Northam/Westward Ho! Nearest Airport: Bristol International (95 miles) and Exeter (55miles).


Our favourite place to visit nearby is Clovelly, this privately owned village is simply breathtaking and virtually unchanged for hundreds of years. The village is free from cars and the path winds down the hill with its picture postcard cottages, tearooms and shops, ending in a pretty harbour at the bottom of the hill. Nearest Town is Bideford, a small port town on the estuary of the River Torridge in north Devon, south-west England.
