Travel:

La Bélautié is within easy reach by car of three international airports:

Toulouse airport (50 minutes) is served daily by Easyjet, BA and Flybe from a variety of UK airports (other airlines also fly there).

Carcasonne (1hr 30 mins) and Rodez (1hr 20mins) airports are served daily during the summer by Ryanair from Stansted (during winter the flights are 3 / 4 times per week).

By car, the journey will take around 9 hours from Calais. A car is essential during your stay.

Distances:

The closest village is Cahuzac 2kms away for all your immediate needs (see below) and Gaillac is only 10 minutes drive for a wider range of shops and restaurants. There is a wide variety of medieval towns and villages in easy reach (less than 45 minutes drive), all of which offer opportunities for days out or more active pursuits such as canoeing down the picturesque gorges of the Aveyron. Further afield you can experience the magnificent Millau bridge or the sights and shopping of Toulouse.

Further Details:

The village of Cahuzac-sur-Vère lies only 2kms away, a 5 minute car drive or a leisurely 20 minute stroll. The village offers everything you might need locally – a small supermarket, two bakeries, a bank, a pharmacy, a very good butcher, as well as a bar and two restaurants, one of which has a Michelin star. The village also has a very good, English speaking doctor should you be unfortunate enough to need him. Closer to the house, only a 5 minute walk away, is a second Michelin starred restaurant set in a stylish hotel. Gaillac, the town at the heart of the local wine growing area, is 10 minutes away by car. The town’s attractive central square along with its large array of shops and restaurants, its abbey and medieval quarter and colourful weekly markets makes it well worth a visit. For a more bustling experience a visit to Albi is recommended (25minutes by car). This large, beautifully restored city, originally founded by the Romans, boasts a Gothic cathedral in its old quarter, as well as the ancient bridge over the Tarn and the Toulouse Lautrec museum. Its attractive squares, covered market and multitude of bars and restaurants makes it a perfect place to sit and watch the world go by. The location of the house gives easy access to the ancient bastide villages of Cordes-sur-Ciel, Castelnau-de-Montmiral, Puycelsi, Penne and Bruniquel. The Sunday market at St-Antonin Noble Val is also always worth a visit. The house is also well positioned for more active pursuits such as walking, tennis, canoeing, horse riding and cycling. Throughout the summer the surrounding villages take it in turn to celebrate their "fête" weekends which always involve musical events, vide greniers (boot fairs) and fireworks. Early evening (apéro) concerts are also regular events in many or the towns and villages in the area.

The house offers many homely touches such as pictures and ornaments, along with a selection of books and videos/DVDs to help complete your holiday experience. The owners live in the adjoining house which is completely separate from the main house and does not overlook the property in any way. They are happy to be as helpful and involved, or as unobtrusive as you wish. Outside: Outside, the enormous open terrace (40mx8m) with its areas of sun and shade, covered eating area, variety of garden furniture and barbecue provides all you might want or need. Sit on the sun-drenched terrace with a glass of the local wine drinking in the views of vineyards and local church spires or in dappled shade under the spreading mulberry trees - cool and relaxed. The terrace looks over the extensive garden, laid largely to lawn, with its rockery and lavender bushes. The large salt swimming pool (12m x 6m) with a flat shallow end of 0.9m and a deep end of 2m is set in its own paved terrace immediately below the main terrace (accessed by steps). The pool is for your exclusive use and provides an extensive sun-bathing area with comfortable sun loungers and parasols. A perfect location to spend lazy days relaxing and contemplating life between cool dips in the sparkling blue water of the swimming pool. Utility Room: Large room with washing machine, iron and ironing board, indoor washing line, with storage area for bikes, suitcases, etc. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All linen, apart from pool towels, is provided and changed on a weekly basis. The property is cleaned prior to arrival and further cleaning can be arranged for a charge. Other: The large entrance hall features an impressive French oak staircase rising to a spacious two-level landing giving access to all bedrooms.
