Beautiful Mountain Hideaway, Perfect For Romantic Breaks & Small Families

Updated: 06-Oct-2016
1 bedroom chalet in St Gervais Les Bains, Haute Savoie, French Alps - Lovely Location, Stunning Views, 1km to Village Centre And Skiing

The Petit Chalet is located just off the main road that accesses St Gervais, but is set back in it's own large wooded grounds. This means that even though you're just 2 mins by car from the village centre you get real sense of seclusion and privacy. This, together with the real log fire, excellent modern design, high quality fittings, (and some great skiing!) makes it an idyllic mountain hideaway, perfect for romantic breaks or for small families looking for an escape.

Compared to a similarly priced ski apartment, the chalet has plenty of room and proper facilities (no kitchenette or pull down bunks). The living room has Seating for 5. Wood burning stove, sofabed and 2 arm chairs. TV and media box with stack of films. DVD player, stereo and lots of DVD's. The wifi access is excellent, certainly good enough for anyone wishing to catch up with some work or preferably streaming TV, music or films.

There is also a Mezzanine area with 2 mattresses and it's own light, but the ceiling is quite close and it's a climb to get up there... which might be an adventure for a 10 year old, but certainly wouldn't suit Granny.

All in all it's perfect and spacious for 2 people to live very comfortable, but can easily accommodate more using the beds mentioned. We don't recommend more than 4, but it can be done.

The kitchen has been refurbed and is well kitted out, with everything you'll need to cater for 6 people, including a proper gas hob, oven and full fridge with freezer compartment.

The Shower-room is situated on the ground floor outside the master bedroom. It has a powerful shower, WC and large sink. Recently refurbished to a great spec.

The main bedroom is spacious with twin singles designed to attach together to make a proper king-size double (no sliding down the middle).

There are safety gates, cot and table attachable baby sit for little ones.

New heaters have been installed throughout and can be left on low so you come back to a warm chalet, but the best way to get the place toasty is using the enormous wood burning stove... it's probably big enough for a 5 bedroomed chalet, so stick 2 or 3 logs on and you'll be stripping off in no time.

Although we're in the UK, chalet manager Alan is a lovely bloke who lives in St Gervais village. He'll make sure the chalet is fully prepared for your holiday and as a point of contact on the rare occasion that something should go wrong.

Although it's only a short distance to the centre of St Gervais, we don't recommend walking it in the daytime as there is a short stretch with no pavement. It's not so bad at night when there's no traffic about - but we do ask you to take care!

Price includes cleaning before and afterwards, linen and towels, broadband, electric, gas and all taxes - no hidden costs!

There is a great restaurant a stone's throw from the chalet, but for a wide range of restaurants and bars, St Gervais village is just 2 minutes away by car.

The slopes are accessed from the station on the edge of the village and there are more than 400km of pistes. Ski hire, lessons and childcare are available at some of the best prices in the Alps. The larger area pass also covers Les Contamines, which is awesome even in the warmer parts of the season (and has a great snow park) and also Les Houches via the TMB. Les Houches is famed for being part of the Chamonix valley, offering great skiing throughout the season. Altogether it really is a massive ski area and it's probably impossible to do it all, even in a fortnight (there's a challenge!).

The stunning (and very posh) village of Megeve is 10-15 minutes drive away, and Chamonix is about 25 mins by car.

Apart from the skiing, and being the launchpad for assents of Mont Blanc, St Gervais has a world class spa, lots of restaurants and bars, parapenting, mountain biking, snow-shoeing, swimming pool, ice skating, climbing, canyoning, white water rafting and some of the most amazing walks in Europe. Have a look at the local tourist board website for the full list - there really is a thousand and one things to do for sporty and non-sporty alike.

There is a beautiful swimming lake just a few minutes down the valley which is amazing for the summer when temperatures range from 25-40 degrees in the daytime.

The chalet has 3000m2 of land attached, mostly wooded and fairly steep, but a great space for barbies in summer and exploring in the snow in winter.

About the Owner

Myself (Alex) and Lynne have been together for 10 year (married for 1.5) and currently live in Upper Broughton, just outside Nottingham. Lynne teaches physics in a secondary school in Nottingham, whilst I am IT manager for an engineering firm called Quick Release. We lived together in St Gervais for 3 years before going back to the UK for a spell, and we love the town, the skiing and the people. We even got married here in the Mairie. We plan to move back to St Gervais in a year or two after spending some time with family and friends.

The chalet is managed by the lovely Alan Monti, who lives locally in St Gervais. He'll be making sure the chalet is in perfect condition for your arrival.

Great, cosy stay with good access to St. Gervais

  • 5 of 5

Located a couple of minute’s drive (or 10 minute walk if you brave the stretch of pavementless road!) to the very pretty Saint Gervais, this is the perfect little place to explore the area. There’s some lovely places to eat and enough shops to browse in, there’s also a couple of well stocked supermarkets (that also opened on Sunday) that meant we were never struggling to find something to eat.

The house has good, off road parking facilities and has some very pretty views of the surrounding mountains from the upstairs windows. The stairs to the 1st floor combined kitchen / lounge area are steep, so although no problems for us I would possibly urge caution for those not too steady on their legs. The lounge area is very cosy and the wood burning fire is a great touch (our dog spent most of the evening curled up in front of it), kitchen has everything you’d need and the WiFi connection is very good and we watched Netflix on laptop with no problems at all. Bathroom and bedroom were clean with towels and linin provided.

All in all we felt very comfortable here and had a great 3 days over the Easter Bank Holiday and would certainly consider coming back again.

From the Owner

We used to rent out the Petit Chalet for the previous owner. Over that time we found ourselves looking for excuses to spend time there. The inside is spacious with all the facilities you could nee, and the outside is beautiful with views that you'll be talking about all year long. Just 50 minutes from Geneva airport the Petit Chalet is close enough to the village centre to access all the facilities, but far enough away to make you feel like you're in the mountains. It's not just the skiing that makes the area incredible, although it is awesome, and there is something for everyone in the hundreds of miles of piste easily accessed from the chalet. Throughout the year there are endless activities, shopping, eating, drinking, sports and fun to be had... The weather is perfect with long hot days in the summer, but the altitude and prospect to maintain snow in the winter. If you have never been to St Gervais or the region, even if you don't book with us I genuinely recommend it... whatever you want from a holiday! We have a chalet manager based in the village (Alan) who is very friendly and will ensure everything is prepared for your holiday.

Further Details:

St Gervais is the only ski resort in the Alps where you can combine the pleasures of skiing with health and beauty spa treatments; the home of Saint Gervais hot springs, miles of quality skiing, a great snow record and some of the mountain restaurants around.

St Gervais is a picturesque town at the entry of the Valley Montjoie on the western side of Mont Blanc. Unlike many other resorts it was not built for the sole purpose of skiing, and the difference in the architecture shows.

There are plenty of restaurants, bars, shops and services which all add to the character of the place as well as making for an enjoyable holiday. St Gervais is easy to reach by both car and train and it is a great base camp for exploring the Mont Blanc region.

Being more of a town than a ski resort there is plenty to do if the snow report is looking bad including relaxing in the thermal baths! Other activities on offer for include paragliding, ice skating, a swimming pool and snow shoe walks.

Creche is available with the ESF for children from 18 months to 3 years. For people of all ages from 4 years up enrol in ski school lessons.

From the Owner

We love the fact that even though we're just off the main road it feels like you're in the middle of an alpine woodland. It is a compact little place, but it's well designed and we love the interior. Tiny ski apartments just do not compare!
