About this property

Paradise found at Kalivi Karavi

You will find Kalivi Karavi in the ancient settlement of Atheato (or Mahala as it is also known locally) just outside the unspoilt town of Glossa, Glossa Port (Loutraki) being the first stop from Skiathos ( 20 mins by ferry).

Main access to Kalivi Karavi is via a peaceful winding track starting at the local bus stop, where you will be met, if required. We encourage nature lovers who enjoy walking and exploring the many ancient tracks through the pristine pine forests that Skopelos is famous for.

Following the path through Atheato while admiring the old buildings and cobbled street, you arrive at Kalivi Karavi - a traditional stone built single storey farmhouse, surrounded by grape vines, honeysuckle and fruit trees. Accessed via an archway with wrought iron gate you enter a private enclosed garden
with stone terraces and a freshwater pool with many areas to sit in shade or sunbathe.

The main kalivi suits a couple or single adult, comprising one bedroom with a king size bed, a fully equipped kitchen/ diner / living room ( 2 sofas) + a full length mirror, wardrobe, chest of drawers outside the ensuite solar heated shower/wc /washbasin. ( see photos)

The adjoining old stone built kalivi has a double bed, a sofa bed, double wardrobe with ensuite solar powered shower/ wc and wash basin, with teak worktops. This room has the original beams, tiled floor and traditional fireplace. It is not let independently of the main kalivi but incurs an additional fee per night if required for extra guests (tba)

Kalivi Karavi has stunning views out over a wooded valley above Loutraki Harbour and many Greek islands including Evia and Skiathos. You are facing southwest with sunsets to applaud every evening.
The completely self- contained kalivi is within a beautiful terraced garden accessed only by a lockable gate.
A wooden veranda runs the length of the Pelion stone terrace, shaded by ancient fruit trees, edged with herbs and fragrant flowers. Below is the sun bathing terrace amidst vines and rose bushes.

Overlooking the freshwater pool (6 x 3 m with1.20 - 1.80 depth) is a shady pergola complete with pomegranite bush, cafe table and chairs.
In addition there is a laundry room should you wish to use the washing machine, a shed and another small courtyard complete with a hammock strung between the fruit trees.

Depending on your time of stay there are oranges, lemons, tangerines, apricots, cherries, apples, pears, pomegranites, and grapes to enjoy. Just outside this idyllic Garden of Eden are old mule tracks that can lead you on explorations down to the beach or tavernas at Loutraki (20 minutes on foot) Palio Klima (20 minutes), and further afield to the stunning beaches on the north coast (90 minutes on foot)
Order a taxi for your return perhaps!

Both studio and main kalivi have air conditioning or heating, solar heated water backed up by an immersion for the showers/ sinks should you require it. The windows have fly screens, the king size bed has a mosquito net and white handmade lace curtains. The furnishings are simple traditional Greek style, white walls and ceilings, rag rugs and tiled floors.

The main kitchen area is well equipped with all requirements met for self catering, including full size oven, dishwasher, fridge with an extending wooden table + 4 hard back traditional style wooden chairs.

Outside on the terrace is a large glass top table for al fresco dining, a low wooden coffee table set with cushioned seats. In addition we provide 2 sun loungers with cushion pads available + 2 foldup ones if required..

There is a large flat screenTV, a DVD and CD player, amp and speakers with a varied world music collection of CD's', some DVD'S, books, maps, games and binoculars.

We will arrange for you to be met at the main Glossa bus stop. ( Meet & Greet details are sent when final balance is received)
If you hire a vehicle any company will arrange to have it waiting at the port for your arrival. Otherwise a taxi can be booked or a bus will take you up to Glossa's main square (3k) where you can wait at the taverna.
Please remember It is a further 10 minute walk down the track to Kalivi Karavi or to drive you need to be aware this track is very narrow and precipitous in places - ( see parking instructions first).

A full set of information regarding workings if the house and garden is emailed prior to your arrival.

any queries by email will be responded to usually within 24 hours. if in doubt about anything please feel free to contact me by text or phone (although I am often away so this may be the reason if you do not get an immediate response).

Kalivi Karavi enjoys a rural location with the natural beauty of SKOPELOS Island on your doorstep. We welcome eco loving guests to explore the beautiful old walking tracks as well as the many remote beaches on the North Coast near Glossa for snorkelling and snoozing.

Blissful week at Kalivi Karavi.
Our holiday definitely lived up to expectations. The place to go if looking for peace and tranquility. Plenty of amenities locally and the locals are all so helpful. An abundance of butterflies to watch and views too.The pool is a much needed bonus during the hot weather.Lovely.

An Oasis of Tranquility
We came seeking peace and quiet and found it in abundance. The Kalivi is a dream! The double bedroom benefits from a full mosquito net over the extremely comfortable double bed and the next door bathroom has a sensible shower you can move around in, rather than a cubicle. The outside space is extensive and has a covered terrace which gives shade for nearly all of the day, as well as an established garden with hammocks hanging from citrus trees and of course the pool, which we spent a great deal of time enjoying. The village is quaint and the bakery at the top of the track from the Kalivi is wonderful, offering a cafe as well as lovely fresh baked bread. The local supermarket, although small, has everything you will probably need and offers the benefit of delivery by scooter to the Kalivi. I would recommend car, quad bike or scooter hire as the bus service only runs 4 times a day from Loutraki to Skopelos Town and back and there are so many beautiful places to visit. It's fair to say that you need to be fit and able bodied to stay here, as vehicle access is limited and the walk to and from the village is a good ten minutes over a picturesque route which although paved, is not unlike a rollercoaster in places. We had a wonderful time in an enchanting location and we will definitely return.

Truly relaxing
If you are looking to escape, relax and unwind then this is the place for you. The kalivi is set in beautiful gardens with a lovely pool and views that are outstanding. We slept well and the shower was great, which is something that cannot always be said when staying away from home. The walk into Glossa takes about 20 minutes and when you arrive dinner / glass of wine is much deserved. There are some lovely restaurants, can recommend the louki bar and the restaurant up the top of the hill. Would recommend hiring a car to explore the island and visit some of the beaches that are not on the bus route. Have returned home feeling like we have been away forever and wished we could have stayed away for longer .

Even better than the pics.
We had such a relaxing and peaceful time here. The property had everything to make it a very comfortable and homey stay. We loved the sunny evening terrace so much we didn't always eat out but cooked something simple and gazed out to sea. In the day we enjoyed local walks and visited beaches,a highlight was hiring a motor boat and visiting inaccessible coves, deep blue waters and going around the headland. It was also a great pleasure walking into Glossa on the country lane for a wonderful evening meal and often music.

Perfect relaxation
We were bowled over by Kalivi Karavi - everything about it made for an extremely special holiday. The kalivi is charming, well-equipped and set in an exquisite garden with a lovely pool and phenomenal views. We appreciated being in a tucked-away, rural setting yet being able to stroll into unspoilt Glossa in ten minutes via a beautiful, quiet lane. The area is wonderfully quiet, friendly and atmospheric, exceeding all our expectations. We would wholeheartedly recommend Kalivi Karavi to anyone looking for complete relaxation in a natural setting and for an ideal base to explore this beautiful island.

Why they chose this property

Loved that it was built of traditional stone over 100 years ago, an original kalivi (farmhouse) with open fireplace and wooden beams, surrounded by ancient fruit trees, vines, roses and palm trees, with the most amazing view.
Fell in love with this pristine island of wiild pine forests, walking tracks through rural landscapes full of birds, wild flowers, olive groves + the cleanest sea we ever swam in.

What makes this property unique

We are outside the village, away from noise and other buildings, but still close enough to the main square of Glossa to catch the bus, use the internet cafe, or shops.
