Kalivi Karavi sits amidst the peaceful countryside in the ancient hamlet of Atheato, a short walk down a winding path from Glossa's main square. The open views take in the olive groves and pine-forested valley leading down to the harbour of Loutraki and out westward to the islands of Evia, Skiathos, Tsougria, Reppi and Maragoza to the mainland.
This well maintained single storey traditional stone built kalivi (farmhouse) has been extended into 2 seperate living areas. The kalivi is completely self- contained with a private garden accessed only by a lockable gate.
A wooden veranda runs the length of the Pelion stone terrace, shaded by ancient fruit trees edged with fragrant flowers. Below is the sun bathing terrace amidst palm trees, vines and more flowers.
Overlooking the freshwater pool (6 x 3 m with1.20 - 1.80 depth) is a shady pergola with cafe table and chairs perfect for observation of the view.
In addition there is a laundry room should you wish to use the washing machine, a shed and another small courtyard complete with a couple of hammocks strung between the fruit trees.
Depending on your time of stay there are oranges, lemons, tangerines, apricots, cherries, apples, pears, pomegranates, and grapes to enjoy. Just outside this idyllic Garden of Eden are old mule tracks that can lead you on explorations down to the beach or tavernas at Loutraki (20 minutes on foot) Palio Klima (20 minutes), and further afield to the beaches on the north coast (90 minutes on foot). It's all designed for nature lovers who want perfect peace and quiet above all else.
Inside there are 2 main living spaces, 2 showers (1 solar powered)/2 wc's. 1 double bedroom, 2 single beds in the studio (which has its own access) All the rooms are painted white, naturally cool with shutters and fly screens. Both studio and main kalivi have air conditioning or heating should you require it. The studio has a traditional Greek fireplace, + a mezanine floor and the orginal high beamed roof. The furnishings are comfortable simple Greek style.

.when not travelling to warmer climes I live in Devon with Tom my partner and cat Riley. Love to walk and especially explore underwater - mostly that which is warmer than the UK coast, so Greece has always been my favourite place to stay.
First trip to a Greek Island made in 1970 to Corfu- hitch-hiked there and back after reading Gerald Durrel's book.
Maggie Rosier purchased this farmhouse in 2006
Fell in love with this island of pine forests, beautiful landscapes full of birds, wild flowers and seas rich in marine life. Kalivi Karavi is an old stone built farm dwelling
with a beautiful private shady garden full of fruit trees, palms, roses, vines and lavender. We have a completely unspoilt outlook over a dense green valley full of birds, taking in the Aegean sea, other islands with mountains and sunsets to boot.
We are outside the village, away from noise and other buildings, but still close enough to the main square of Glossa to catch the bus, use the internet cafe, or shops.
'have had the most wonderful stay here at this lovely house. It was even better than we had hoped for. It's setting is idyllic and so peaceful. Thanks for sharing your lovely Greek house with us.' Ruth & Nigel (Kent)
'A totally idyllic spot, just as we had wished for. The garden, terraces and pool area are beautifully peaceful and soothing! We felt so relaxed here, it's a gorgeous position to be in overlooking the valley down to Loutraki.'
Vannessa & Justin (London)
Wow, what delightful memories of sitting by the pool, drinking your delicious organic wine with cherries from the garden, entertained by swallows diving into the water and getting so chilled we hardly bothered to go anywhere! Susan & Jeff, Bristol.
We were bowled over by Kalivi Karavi - everything about it made for an extremely special holiday. The kalivi is charming, well-equipped and set in an exquisite garden with a lovely pool and phenomenal views. We appreciated being in a tucked-away, rural setting yet being able to stroll into unspoilt Glossa in ten minutes via a beautiful, quiet lane. The area is wonderfully quiet, friendly and atmospheric, exceeding all our expectations. We would wholeheartedly recommend Kalivi Karavi to anyone looking for complete relaxation in a natural setting and for an ideal base to explore this beautiful island.
For us, this was the perfect holiday and Kalivi Karavi was very much a big part of that.
Initially we were met from the ferry, taken to the house and all our questions answered. What could be simpler?
Then it was getting up in the morning straight into our private pool and breakfast on the terrace overlooking the sea. We would have mid-morning coffee and supper in a lovely little town of Glossa a short walk away. Some days we hired a scooter and explored the island.
And In the evenings we had a drink on the flower filled terrace watching the sun set over the sea. Perfect!
Our week's holiday on Skopelos at this tiny Kalivi was possibly our most relaxing holiday ever. Days were spent reading in the hammock, swimming in the pool (horse flies permitting) or drinking rose on the terrace watching the sunset. When we weren't at the house we were up the track in Glossa sampling great food at the local Tavernas, out in the car visiting tiny coves and beaches or driving through pine covered hillsides or tracking down Mama Mia film locations.
Things you need to know: The house is TINY, but the outside space is big, and it's all about spending sunny days on the terrace. It's fairly basic but very well equipped with plenty of chairs, loungers, cooking equipment, binoculars and towels. We had a warm welcome from Rania, and the locals are very friendly and welcoming. The wildlife life: birds, bees and bats are everywhere - a real nature lovers paradise. The house is at the end of a rough track abt 15 minutes from Glossa's main square. In parts it is exceptionally steep, and at night utterly dark - not suitable for people with mobility issues. This is definitely a holiday location for those who want to get away from it all, for peace and quiet, nature, walking etc. Bliss!
Kalivi Karavi (KK) is a wonderful little place tucked away in the small hamlet of Machala adjacent to the village of Glossa. The principle room is a well-appointed kitchen/dining/sitting room which is nice and airy, the bedroom is neat and the bed comfortable, the bathroom is brand new and very well appointed. Outside there is a fantastic two-level terrace and where KK really comes into its own. The terrace is the length of the property and is bursting with colour from roses, vines, numerous plants/flowers and fruit-trees - we were 1wk too early for the apricots but the lemons were delicious! The upper terrace has a shaded canopy the length of the property and a dining table with views across the valley. It has several resident geckos to provide amusement as they scuttle about in the sun. The lower terrace has two beautiful palm-trees that frame the view a good sized pool and more views across the valley and out to sea. The pool is a favourite drinking-place for swifts/swallows during the day and bats at night.
KK is the last but one property in Machala and it is an absolute haven of peace. It is difficult to beat a typical day:- sit/lie in the sunshine with no traffic or extraneous noises read or play banjo for an hour, tend the roses and flower-beds for a while then saunter down the steps for a dip in the pool, dry off in the sun with a glass of cold white wine and watch the boats in the bay. Machala is tiny and the road ends just before the village however a small car (we used a Fiat Panda - brilliant) can get to KK to drop-off bags etc then it's drive on 100yds down the track and turn round to drive back through Machala. The car is parked 100yds away and it's quite safe. You can easily drive down the dirt track to Loutraki and durng the day you may even see the local traffic such as one small van, two mules and a donkey!
Whilst there is a TV etc we didn't watch that at all - why bother when it's soooo lovely outside. This is one of the most relaxing places that we have stayed in for a long time.
Glossa is a 10min walk away. It is lovely! It has some nice shops selling honey, olive-oil, two bakeries, two small general-stores (the one outside the village is excellent & very reasonable - turn right when exiting the Machala road and go 50yds) there are also a few gifts but this otherwise a typical small village. The taverna/kebab/cafe overlooking the hillside and sea is 1st class - nothing fancy but the kebabs and wine are great.
We HIGHLY recommend KK!!
