Apartment in West Bay, near Bridport, Dorset - Perfect Location for a Wonderful Holiday or Long Weekend Retreat

Perfect location: A tastefully furnished & well-equipped (free unlimited wifi) ground floor apartment in a converted prestigious Grade II Victorian building (see main image) overlooking West Bay harbour in Lyme Bay. West Bay is a small fishing harbour village with two beaches and is a major gateway to the famous Jurassic Coast world heritage site. Take the eastward coastal cliff path to Chesil Beach & Portland, or the west coast path towards Lyme Regis, ideal for fossil hunting. West Bay has also become famous as the film setting for the tv series 'Broadchurch'. From the apartment it's just a minute’s stroll is the fine shingle beach, pubs, shops & amenities and several excellent restaurants. There’s crab fishing, river boating, angling trips, sailing, coastal and country walks, fossil hunting, many local events (like raft racing). 1.5 miles inland is the vibrant market town of Bridport with its arts centre & lots of excellent restaurants & cafes. Weymouth with sailing beaches is about a half hour drive. WE WILL CONSIDER BOOKINGS OF LESS THAN 7 NIGHTS DURING OFF-PEAK SEASON, SO PLEASE SEND AN ENQUIRY. There's free residents' parking adjacent to the lawn in front of Pier Terrace, on a first come first served basis for residents. West Bay also has several car parks which should have space, so if on the odd occasion you don't immediately get a free space where the residents' parking is, there's always other car parking space nearby. The public car park is free from 6pm - 8am and very cheap at other times.

About Graham Stone

We love this beautiful part of England and we fell in love with the Bridport area because of the stunning scenery and cliff walks along the wonderful Jurassic heritage coast. Dorset is one of Britain's beautiful counties!

We ourselves live in Surrey, so we are not on location at the property. We have a local lady lives nearby who cleans and is on hand locally if needed.

Great Apartment for a Super Holiday.

We found the apartment superbly located to explore both town, country and coast. It is literaly a stone's throw from the beach and spectacular cliff scenery. We found the apartment both comfortable, clean, spacious and quiet and is well equipped. West Doset is beautiful. There is so much to see and do. Too much for our short stay, so we will be planning a return visit.

Great location central to West Bay and the stunning Jurassic coastline.

We stayed for 3 nights as a last minute getaway, booking the day before arriving.

The apartment was clean and had everything we needed for self catering, and very reasonably priced.

We chose to eat out locally in the pubs and cafes in West Bay, recommending the Bridport Arms or The George for a larger menu choice (very generous with their portions)

We went for lovely walks along the coastal paths, providing stunning views across the dramatic coastline.

The apartment is located centrally to all of this and provides a perfect base for a quiet getaway by the sea.

For a more commercial scene then Bridport is just a short drive or within walking distance not more than a couple of miles away & then Weymouth is only about 40mins drive.

We will definitely be back to enjoy West Bay again.

Happy honeymooners

My new wife and I booked seven nights at very short notice due to our marriage just two days before our stay began. We were greeted by the very friendly housekeeper who had placed a lovely box of Thornton's chocolates as a gift for our arrival, which was a lovely surprise and got our week off to a really wonderful start. The apartment was very comfortable in every respect with ample storage for clothes etc in the bedroom, fully equipped kitchen and the bathroom was spacious with a lovely shower with heated towel rack. The beach and harbour are quite literally yards away from the front door, with great food in the hotel across the lawn and the surrounding areas such a Lyme Regis just a short drive away. I would absolutely recommend renting this apartment to anyone, the owners are lovely people who were very accommodating and done everything they could to help make our honeymoon a special memory, and we thank you both so much for all that you done to make our first week as a married couple a happy and special one that we shall always treasure.

West Bay apartment

We had a great week in this cosy apartment. It was well-equipped, well-maintained and clean. The location is great, right near the harbour with the beach at the end of the apartment block, so it is perfect for those bracing cliff-top walks. Loads of pubs and places to eat within walking distance make this apartment the perfect choice. We would especially recommend the Station Kitchen for fabulous food at terrific prices!

Good as budget accommodation

The building itself is quite interesting and we enjoyed reading up about the history of it. Lovely that you are literally a stone's throw from the beach. The town itself is nice and a short walking distance from bridport, which we enjoyed. The apartment itself was quite disappointing. The bathroom was lovely and spacious, though anyone over 5ft8 may struggle in the shower! The rest of the apartment could do with some TLC, would be nice to have a few more luxurious touches such as nice bedding ,curtains and towels as these were quite old and faded. The Windows are quite high and the only eye height window in the apartment happened to look over the bin complex which was a shame as this would have been a nice harbour view. All in all the apartment did feel like a bedsit, a bit pokey and dark! There are a few steps down to the apartment, so a little annoying for carrying in luggage. Parking was a nightmare as you are not guaranteed a space, the spaces for residents are used by the pub customers, the only other option is a pay and display car park so not ideal. Being an apartment we also experienced noise from the residents above us so not a peaceful break. Disappointing way to spend new year!

Owner's Response: We were disappointed to receive this review which we consider somewhat unfair. The information concerning the main issues eg steps down to apartment, parking, shower, is clear on the Owners Direct website under 'Facilities' & in 'Notes'. For your information, depending on whether you view the advert on a pc or a tablet changes what is immediately visible (if you highlight a facility which has '…' afterwards it supplies more info). We have since added the parking information to the main description page as well so it can't be missed. These guests were staying over New Year, so if a neighbour had visitors it is unfortunate that there was some noise from above and we are sorry it may have disturbed them. We re-decorate early every year before the main season. As for the bins if you sit at the dining table and look out the window in one direction you can now see bins, but look the other way and you see the harbour and boats etc. We all choose our focus - please read other reviews! We have received excellent feedback from our many visitors over the last 3 years and we are confident anyone visiting will enjoy their stay in our apartment.

Nearest airport: Exeter 1 hour drive. Bournemouth or Bristol 1.5 hr drive. Southampton 2 hrs drive. Regular bus services from West Bay into Bridport. Main line rail stations are at Crewkerne and Dorchester, both of which are under ½ hours' drive time.
