Ideally suited to families and friends looking for a traditional seaside holiday, with excellent facilities to keep everyone entertained. There's Punch and Judy on the beach, Purbeck ice cream and traditional pubs serving real ale and home cooked food. For the more energetic, there are plenty of bridleways and footpaths, ideal for walking or cycling and exploring the stunning Purbeck hills and Jurassic coats line.

About the Owner

Having first visited Swanage as a couple, Ian and I fell in love with the place, so much so, that once we'd had our children, we felt it was the perfect place to buy a holiday home, to enjoy as a family...far enough away to feel like we've been away, but close enough to escape to, even if it was only for the weekend.

We've had some absolutely fantastic times here & still do, but as the children are getting older, they have more commitments at the weekends, and so we seem to spend less and less time down in Swanage.

So, we have made the decision to let out our second home, and offer others the opportunity to discover the charm & allure of Swanage! Happy holidays from us all..Sarah, Ian, Tom, Henry & Lily x

Perfect holiday

This great located family house was clean, near the beach, shops and steam railway. It had all we needed for six if us (easily sleeps 10) and a baby. Help, if required, on the end of a phone. Can't fault. Wish we stayed longer.

Great property in a great location.

What a gem of a property in a great location. House was clean, tidy and very comfortable with our two families of 3 adults and 4 children. An easy walk into town and the beach. And the railway was a hit with the children being right next to the house! Will definately book to return for next year!

This house is right next to train line and stream as you can see and it makes the stay really cute and special. The house is clean, fresh and spacious with really, really comfy beds. We just loved it.

Our 2nd visit within 3 years & already booked for next year. Great for the beach, steam & diesel trains & buses into Bournmouth. 3 generations all under one roof ...what could be better for a holiday- can't wait for next summer for our next visit!

My family and i just spent a week over the Christmas period at the Chestnut Mews. The four bedrooms are very spacious and generous sizes, but the lounge and kitchen are slightly small for the size of the property, particularly for our party of eight. Also worth noting that the clothes dryer is actually a clothes horse rather than a tumble dryer, again a slight issue for the size of our party. There were some issues with a number of chipped dishes and the toilets which i have mentioned to the owners already and have been assured that these will be addressed accordingly. Otherwise a very nice and convenient place to stay.

AMAZING house and location

We have just spent a week in this property and our reaction on arrival was WOW!

The house is beautifully decorated and very clean. The bedrooms are very very spacious and we had everything we needed.

The house is in a perfect location, a short walk to the beach and all the shops and restaurants, and right next door to the Swanage steam railway. Our two young boys aged 2 and 5 absolutely loved waving to the trains.

We have been visiting Swanage every year for 15 years and this was our first stay in this property-we have already re-booked for next year which speaks volumes.

Activity and Interests


Swanage beach is an award winning blue flag beach with Punch and Judy, beach huts and water sports and is 10 minutes walk away from Chestnut Mews. If you want to venture slightly further (max 15 minutes drive to the furthest of these), South beach, Middle beach, Knoll beach and Shell Bay are stunning National Trust beaches. Water sports are available at Knoll beach and sailing courses or sail boat hire is available at Shell Bay.


Chestnut Mews is situated within walking distance of Swanage town centre and beach. Nearest travel links are Poole harbour, Bournemouth Int airport, Bournemouth train station and Wareham train station. Car hire is not essential.


Swanage is a gem of the Dorset coast! In this unique area, glorious sandy beaches and breathtaking coastal scenery, blend harmoniously with peaceful, unspoilt countryside and picturesque villages of mellow stone and golden thatch. This very special area has so much to offer, from the traditional seaside holiday, with safe, award winning beaches & excellent family facilities, to the stunning Purbeck hills and Jurassic coast.

Swanage's dramatic landscape offers wild flowers and heathers in spring, brilliant sunshine and lazy summer days, warm autumn colours over the hills and heathland and country pubs with log fires, blazing on winter nights. There are so many things to do and see; many bridleways and footpaths for mountain biking, rambling or horse riding, local swimming pools, tennis courts, an indoor and outdoor bowling green, a funfair and amusement arcade from Easter through to October and between Swanage and Studland, a golf course to while away the hours. The romantic ruin of Corfe Castle stands just a few miles from Swanage. Why not take a step back in time and take a trip there on the steam train? For food there are the traditional fish and chip restaurants, good local pub grub, tapas bars, Indian and Chinese cuisine and other treasures that can be found within walking distance. At the far end of the town is the Victorian pier, home to diving centres, boat and fishing trips from the quay and wonderful events, with plenty to do in the summertime.
